5Over50 do Christmas jumpers

Hello and welcome to the Christmas edition of 5Over50, the one where we don our Christmas jumpers. This month Laurie chose the item to be styled and really it was a no brainer - we had to go with the festive Christmas jumper!  

I'm going to skip right along here to show you the other ladies from our collective, starting with Gail, the founder of our group.

Gail's posh Rudolph jumper is from Boden which she's styled very classically with her large pearl necklace and tartan skirt. I had to smile when I saw this as I'd put together a very similar look at one stage. Our non-conferring system means we really have no idea how the others are going to present the challenge which is all part of the fun I suppose. See the full post on Gail's blog Is This Mutton here.

Jacqui of Mummabstylish blog has chosen a very understated Christmas jumper for the feature, and the charm isn't lost on me as I just love this gold sparkle. The simple elegance will surely make this a thoroughly wearable sweater for years to come too. Do pop over to see Jacqui's write up on our challenge.

And here's Hilda of Over The Hilda blog with her dear little grandson, both sporting their fairisle Christmas jumpers. How cute are they? I've yet to experience the joys of grandchildren, but can imagine the wonder of Christmas through their eyes as I'm pretty much still a child myself!

My Christmas jumper isn't new, but the skirt is. Since my last post, I've had a mercy dash to the mainland to have a tooth extracted, but as they say Every cloud has a silver lining and this meant a quick burst of shopping in the midst of everything else. I could write an entire post about all the things that I did wrong around my dental appointment, but it would only go to prove what an idiot I was in face of my biggest fear. Sufice to say, the tooth and a lot of infected gum have been removed and I'm all the better for it now.

Moving quickly on then, I found this Ted Baker skirt in TK Maxx reduced from £200 to £49.99. Well, how could I resist? I thought it would be perfect not only for this challenge, but also for my birthday next month. Details of that nearer the time dear reader, but I have plans, I have big plans.

These boots are made for walking - 5 Over 50 challenge

Welcome to another edition of our #5 Over 50 Challenge as created by Gail of Is This Mutton? It was my turn to choose and I picked the title because this record by Nancy Sinatra was the first my brother bought when we were barely teenagers (mine was Baby Love by the Diana Ross and the Supremes). Excuse me if my age is showing.

I decided to model myself on the fashion of the day with my knee high patent boots, a knitted mini dress, shaggy fur waistcoat and John Lennon sunglasses. Let's see how the rest of the gang fared shall we?

Gail has chosen a very elegant black pair of suede over the knee boots for this challenge. When we met up last week (yet to come on the blog) she told me about these fabulous boots and how she doesn't get the chance to wear them often. I love how she's married up pearls and leopard print in her accessories.

It's also suede from Laurie, but this time in the shape of ankle boots. Don't they look amazing with her skinny leggings? Ever the chameleon she looks fabulous in whatever she wears. See more on her blog Vanity and Me. Laurie was another of the bloggers I met in London recently - see here.

I met up with Jacqui of Mummabstylish too which only leaves me with Hilda to get to know. Jacqui told me about her rule of three - three colours she weaves together to create an harmonious outfit, and that's true of this perfect pink, grey and black ensemble.

I'm hugely envious of these over the knee boots of Hilda's. I tried on a pair when I was in TK Maxx recently and now wish I'd bought them as they really looked lovely. I'll be visiting her blog Over the Hilda to find out what brand they are. The classic red coat looks great too, and terribly smart with that hat. Oh to have a #hatface!

I had toyed with the idea of an all black outfit to go with the patent boots and handbag, but couldn't pull together a 60's look. Also, I'm currently battling a dreadful head cold and nasty cough too so the autumn colours have given my skin a well needed lift. I bought these Lotus boots in TK Maxx in Truro just before I came home and decided that they would be ideal for this month's challenge. I found the butterfly embossed bag in a charity shop shortly afterwards and couldn't believe how well they went together.

I did a bit of shopping when I was in London too and will give you peek in due course, but I was quite restrained by my usual standards. To be perfectly honest, I don't like shopping in London as I find it pretty overwhelming. Too many shops, too much choice, too many people all mean I try to cherry pick where I go. I visited the large Primark at Marble Arch and found some basics there. I then went to Zara, also with success and last on my list was TK Maxx on Kensington High Street where I picked up a couple of bargains. If anything, shopping in London helped me to remember why shopping in Cornwall is much more my thing. And still on the shopping theme, I don't know if you recall, but I mentioned about a vintage shop I discovered in Penryn? Well, I had another dental appointment there last Tuesday and afterwards hotfooted up the street to have a look, and would you believe it? The shop is only open from Wednesday to Saturday! One of these days I'll get in there.

Amazing Lace with the 5 Over 50's

Welcome to another edition of our 5 Over 50 monthly style challenge. Jacqui has chosen the topic of Amazing Lace this month. Sadly the group line-up has changed with Ashley stepping down due to other commitments, but the upside is that this has allowed us to usher Hilda into our happy crew. So, without further ado, let's take a peek at my offering...

This skirt was a brand new find in a charity shop during one of my shopping sprees earlier this year. The swing ticket stated £25 but was marked down to £3.99 - ker-ching! I've married it up with this floral lacy top which is so old I can't recall where or when I bought it.

Here's Jacqui of Mummabstylish blog and wow, doesn't she rock this lace dress? Clearly all dressed up with somewhere rather special to go I'd say. You really can't go wrong with black lace can you? The deep v neck and simple necklace emphasise Jacqui's fabulous figure and let's not forget to mention those hot stilettos.

Our host Gail from Is This Mutton is looking wonderfully theatrical in her black lace skirt. Her graveside backdrop looks like an episode from a period drama. I love it, all of it - the setting, lighting and of course the outfit, right down to that saucy bow! I can't wait to read about Gail's inspiration for this stunning ensemble.

Hilda is stepping out in style in her LK Bennett dress with lace sleeve detail. Did I hear that a certain young royal may have copied you with this Hilda? The addition of strappy courts and dark glasses elevates this to celebrity status! See Hilda's blog, Over the Hilda.

Laurie from Vanity and Me always delivers elegance and style, and this month's offering is no different. Chic evening wear is how she's presented her Amazing Lace top, in fact I'd suggest this may be a lace body by the sleek fit. A white Tux and grey tux trousers complete this fabulous ensemble.

This was the perfect opportunity for me to bring out all of my rose gold accessories.

But this isn't quite everything from me. I also styled the skirt with another lace top which only clouded the issue. It's too similar to be featured later on the blog, so here you go - 2 for 1 today! I'm really undecided as to which is the better of these two - which do you prefer?

5 over 50 challenge

Welcome to a brand new feature 5 Over 50 Challenge ! Less than a month ago I was contacted by fellow blogger Gail to see if I would take part in this new monthly challenge - and here we are - all of us are over 50 and out to have fun with our clothes. The first challenge has been set by Gail and is "Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue". My offering goes like this -

Old: skirt. New: mules. Borrowed: bag. Blue: jacket.

And here's Gail of Is This Mutton blog  who has been blogging since 2013. She covers not only fashion on her blog, but post features on beauty products as well as lifestyle. Another passion of Gail's is her garden and is often the location of her photo shoots. Gail likes to keep her styling fresh by trying new trends to avoid the dreaded Mutton label. And true to her word she's showcasing the latest embroidery trend here along with these fab ankle grazers. Follow Gail on instagram here.

Next up is Jacqui of Mummabstylish blog  who has been blogging since 2016. She has a large family and loves nothing better than going shopping with her three daughters. My blogging friend Laurie of Vanity And Me is taking part in this challenge too. Laurie often features the classics and her sleek grooming makes the most simple of outfits shine. Much as she would probably describe her style as conservative, I think I have so much to learn from her. Simple white trousers never looked so chic as here with this fabulous print shirt. Last, but by no means least, is Ashley of Lazy Daisy Jones blog. Ahsley is a lifestyle blogger who seems to cover every kind of wonderful. She is hugely creative and if you want to know how to do something, then it's probably on her blog. This challenge has served as my introduction to Ashley and I'm still trawling through her bright and colourful blog which is inspiring me to try my hand at all sorts of projects. Gail's challenge ended up being a great excuse to pull lots of colours together as well as my fabulous moto jacket. I've not worn the jacket for a while and decided to try a new combination with this old maxi skirt that was a wonderful charity shop find last year. And why wear just one paisley print when you can wear two? My daughter gave me this blouse knowing how much I love orange and paisley, making it my all-time favourite top. Last of all, I jumped on the embroidery bandwagon last month by way of these adorable mules from TK Maxx. This is the first time I've worn this whole outfit together and I must admit I got lots of lovely feedback. Orange, paisley and embroidery seemed to tick the box for so many!
