Paisley print and fairisle knit

Am featuring two of my favourite prints today, and if I say they go together then they do.

But I don't think I'd have been grinning so much if I knew how crazy my hair was looking!

These Mary Jane's have been knocking about in my closet for years without many outings, so hurrah for the opportunity to get them out today.

Here we have a mid-week, dressed down look that's so very me. I know I've showcased a couple of over the top party outfits recently, but this is the real me. I've never had my "colours" done, but am pretty sure that I'm autumn as these hues don't drain me and make me feel very at home. The rusts, greens and ochre all bring life to my complexion. In addition I also love paisley, fairisle, tweed and tartan which all seem to tie me to my Scottish roots. Featuring fairisle today means I've pretty much covered all my favourites this winter in one way or another.

This injection of colour is the perfect antidote to the post Christmas slump that can descend after all the festive hype. It's so easy to allow a grey mood to influence your clothes choices. I'm aware that I do have a propensity to wear black and greys quite a lot in the winter months. That's why I often spend an hour at the weekend to root through my wardrobe to find items that are forgotten, overlooked or just plain hidden from sight. I'm such a big fan of colour, yet if I'm in a rush I know how easy it is to pull some black and grey pieces together without much planning. A few separates in bold colours are great to mix and match with these neutrals to give a bit of a lift. My other ploys are to add a pair of bright or patterned tights to jazz up a simple outfit and finish the look with some dazzling brogues. A plain black dress can be transformed by the right pair of patterned tights. In fact it's a really inexpensive way to add personality to an outfit.

My own post Christmas slump has be explained by the fact that the cold I'd been battling was in fact flu. Some two weeks down the line, I had a check up yesterday and that's what's ailed me after all. At least I don't feel such a fraud for all this sleeping, listless laying around and croaking like a frog whenever I tried to speak!

  2. Aw, I hope you feel better soon! I love all the colours here, and yes, they definitely GO! I also tend to black and dark colours at this time of year, so brights are my fights. :)

  3. I am an "autumn" (had my colours checked haha). And I also love colours like green, gold, yellow and any shade of red. So I am there with you on colour. But unlike you I am more conservative with pattern mixing. I saw your previous post too and I think you are all masters in pattern mixing, so I happily enjoy watching you.

    1. Greetje we all have to play to our strengths don't we? Patterns don't pose much of a problem as long as you have a theme or colour linking them. And at his time of year we can all do with a splash of something bright, even just a scarf, to give us a lift. Glad you're enjoying the ride anyway x

  4. This is something I would wear in a heartbeat. In fact this outfit reminds me of yours a bit...http://suzannecarillo.com/extreme-pattern-mixing-not-for-the-weak-at-heart/

I adore loads of pattern and colour.

  5. Oh I love paisley! The two prints look lovely together and I love the whole outfit. Anna. I don't think I have anything in Fair Isle or maybe a black and white knitted waistcoat with a fair isle ish.

Do hope you feel better soon.

    1. Isn't paisley one of these long enduring love affairs for most of us? I've got a few paisley outfits waiting in the wings, and would love to see your take on it too. Am well on the mend now, thank you x

  6. I think you look positively pretty, Anna. Never would I have dreamt of putting Fair Isle remotely near Paisley let alone concoct an entire outfit around it. Absolutely masterful.

    1. Thanks Sheela. I love to play around with separates to see what novel ideas I can create and this is one that really works. Maybe you could dip your toe in too? It's about mixing up and having fun, and sometimes it doesn't work but can lead you on to something else...x

  7. Really lovely, Anna. I do think the patterns coordinate well because they share a lot of similar colors. I'm a sucker for paisley - and Mary Janes are my weakness (PS, they are de rigueur right now)

  8. If wearing patterns and colour combats the Christmas slump, then you've won the battle and we can move right on into spring now, please. Haha. Fantastic joyous outfit, Anna. Those shoes are made for dancing. Sorry to hear you have had the flu. I hope you are 100 percent soon. These outfits should help.

    1. Certainly wearing all these colours has helped to lift me out of the blues. One of the perks of being poorly was the endless online sale shopping I managed to do - lots of boots (OTK, wedges) and shoes winging their way to me now to try on soon. Watch this space x

  9. Catching up on my blog reading so only just caught this. A wonderful midweek outfit. Hits the spot beautifully. I especially love the frilly blouse spilling out over the cardigna.
I hope you're back to full health now. Flu can just knock you for six.

  10. I think your hair is adorable. I wish I could get my head of cobwebs to look like that. Fairisle sweaters are one of my favorite things however here in Southern California we have very few opportunities to wear them. So I'm just going to live vicariously through you.
