What d'ya think?

Right, here's the rub - in less than three weeks time I'll be on board our cruise ship and the panic is just setting in. We leave home on the 1st Feb and apart from some crazy shoe shopping, I haven't done anything constructive to bring my capsule wardrobe together yet. Well that's not exactly true. I've found the most fabulous dress to wear to the Captain's party - do you want a sneak preview? Well scoot on down to the bottom of the page and I'll show you...

OK how many of you did that? The only reason I decided to show you was in case I suddenly changed my mind and it didn't get an airing til next NYE. What d'ya think? I bought this from eBay for £16.99! It's a one-off designer piece, lined, boned and beautifully made. Stunning isn't it?

But back to the main event. I thought I'd try out some maybes to see what they look like and decide if they ought to be packed for the cruise. The fake fur might be really useful if the weather is still cool. February is a funny month for weather in Europe. Steve and I went to Venice in February one year and instead of going to what everyone said would be warm or at least mild weather, we encountered the coldest temperatures that they'd had in Venice for 100 years! It was minus 10 degrees (cold enough for the Grand Canal to start freezing over) and we had to make a last minute dash to buy full sets of thermals before we left the UK. So with that in mind, the fur seems like a contender, and also I kinda like the whole romantic notion of drinks on our balcony with a fur draped around me.

The snazzy trousers and rose gold shoes might be useful too. Well I said that about the paisley trousers with the gold thread though, didn't I? You see this is my problem; I'm hedging my bets, lining up might be usefuls, but what I really ought to be doing is some straight forward trying on of frocks. Seven nights of pre-dinner drinks, dinner, cabaret and maybe a little dancing all adds up to seven frocks befitting of the occasion. What on earth am I doing? I know I won't be doing dressing down in the evenings, and trousers - with no matter how much glitter and sparkle - won't really be what I want to wear when the moment comes. But wait a minute - we are forgetting something. Before we sail off, Steve and I have a week spent between Cornwall and London where we will be going out to dinner with friends and on our own, so these dressing down trousery affairs may be just right! What a relief, cos I really like them and so wanted to justify packing them. So that's sorted. All I have to do now is spend all day on Saturday trying on dresses. And with a bit of luck you may get another sneak preview of one on Sunday...

  1. I scrolled down! I never miss a fabulous dress like that! That's just amazing, Anna, and you look stunning! I hate packing for trips - you know my trick, don't you? Take things you want to get rid of, and leave them behind to make more room in your luggage. Of course, I haven't cruised, just been on planes and needed 1 suitcase...Good luck with your capsule!

Love those pants and the shiny shoes! We are shiny shoe twins today!

    1. Sounds like we do quite different types of packing Sheila. I'll be taking all of my best clothes, so no fear of any of these be dumped en route, hahaha. Shiny shoe twins indeed, who were both heading out to book club in the evening!

  2. You need to be on the red carpet in that Green Goddess dress! Just take a red bath mat with you and have your husband lay it down every time you enter into the restaurant! You'll have everyone talking. LOL

I'm like you and often drive myself a bit batty trying to figure out what to take on a trip. I did find that when we went on a cruise it was a bit easier since I knew I didn't need to keep lugging my suitcase around. I was able to pack big and then leave it in the cabin.

I had fancy dresses for every night (of course I did! I'd never miss that opportunity!) and managed okay with all the unpredictable weather we encountered. We went to Alaska in September from Seattle. I had shorts, and coats in my suitcase.

In the end I managed and if not, there is always the onboard shops!

I still cannot believe you scored that dress for that little online. It looks like it was made for you.

    bisous

    1. That's the best thing about cruising, the only unpacking once thing. I know once I've got the dresses sorted this weekend the worst will be done. Day wear might be the real challenge with the mixed weather possibilites, but hey I can always have a bit of retail in every port!
Am so please with the green ball gown, and yes, it really does fit like a custom made piece - what luck!

  3. Amazing dress and it looks wonderful on you! You'll be the belle of ball/Captain's table.

The trousers are really elegant and I adore the bag - it's very 60's isn't it with the op art design? I think a fur coat is an excellent idea as well. Can't wait to see more lovely frocks! x

    1. Thanks Veronica. I'm over the moon with this dress. I have another full length ball gown in gold which is in the running, and may well take them both so that I can chose on the night. Glad you like the bag, it's very chic isn't it?

    1. Cruising nowadays is as smart or as casual as you want. I'm always prone to the whole dressing up, but hey, that's my nature at the best of times! Dodged back to your "Blue" and commented there, so good luck with what's in the pipeline x

    1. I must admit that a cruise is my perfect holiday, and utterly romantic with all that swanning about in beautiful ball gowns. No worrying about meals, or making beds and a surprise every morning when you look out to see a new port.

  7. Hello Anna, Well? what everyone else said really! but I think you must take both floor length gowns (wonderful green by the way, I feel I want to turn it inside out and get a good look at the foundation construction!!!), and you MUST wear them both (and Steve has to take pictures of his stunning wife too). Will we get a preview of the gold before you leave? Love those brocade trousers on you. H&M you say?????

    1. Sally I knew you'd appreciate the construction of this lovely gown. I hope to show some dresses tomorrow but honestly, have had such a crazy, busy day today that it may just be an array of dresses strewn across the bed at this rate! Fab boots lined up for the post tomorrow so you must take a look. So lovely to hear from you again. Will drop by and put my intinery onto your blog so that you can see the entire route. Golly, it's all coming a bit quick now!

  8. Ooooh those trousers are fantastic especially with the coat and the gold shoes. Glad to know they are being packed!
I always horrendously overpack. I'm the one who does the 'I'll put it in the case, just in case'!
    And knockout green dress!

    1. Have just taken delivery of our two (quite large) new suitcases in readiness for the just in case packing this weekend. Am hoping to also leave room for all of the finds from my travels - for instance, you can't go to Italy without buying some Italian shoes can you?
