Could this be the perfect little black accessory?

I decided that I wanted to have a bit of different look for my photo shoot this week, so took myself off on my bike for a tour of the island. The obvious feature was to find a fab beach view of which we have many. The view behind me is of St Mary's, the main island of the Isles of Scilly. I've lived on these islands for the past 38 years. Those 38 years mean I'm classed as a local now. My children were born here making them islanders, but not Scillonian. Seemingly to be given that status you have to have parents and grandparents all born on the islands. Complex hierarchy system eh?

The misty background was great, and the windswept look was genuine, but I wanted something else.

I really like this elephant's graveyard of timber otherwise known as the log pile, but my monochrome outfit blends rather than pops. Time to move on.

And here it is, my perfect little black accessory. This cute two seater chopper would be ideal to hop over to the mainland on a day trip for a spot of shopping. Well, a girl can dream, can't she?

The island may be small, but is very geographically diverse meaning there are plenty of nooks and crannies to feature. Today was another snapshot of what we have to offer despite being only one mile across by two miles long. The world famous Abbey Garden is behind me. This garden attracts thousands of tourists every year, many of whom arrive on cruise ships to see the huge variety of tropical plants and trees which thrive in our mild climate. One of my fellow bloggers Kezzie (see her blog here) is taking a cruise of the British Isles this summer and will be visiting the garden as part of her cruise itinerary. She and I plan to have a bloggers meet up that day and also hope to fit in a sea swim together on her whistle-stop tour. Learn more about our beautiful group of islands here where you can find help to plan your trip.

This was the sight which met me this morning as I headed off to the beach for my morning swim. A big cruise ship was being brought into the island's shallow waters by pilot boat. All of the passengers will be ferried into the various islands over the course of the day. (Kezzie, this may well be the kind of craft you arrive on in a couple of month's time.) This is Appletree Bay where I have my daily dip, and in the distance you can see the large cruiser anchored up.

My sweet jacket is by Zara (via charity shop) and the trousers are from my go-to shop for clean cut trousers, H&M. The patterned top is also from H&M. The sandals are from TK Maxx and the brand is Sixtyseven these are similar. I picked up the tiny bag up in a charity shop in Penzance. And my old faithful sunglasses are by Quay Australia. All my jewellery was found in various charity shops in Cornwall.

  1. Your home is so interesting Anna!!
Do you ever wish for city life?
I'm not sure I love your black "accessory"---not that I'm nervous about flying---just that there would be too much maintenance---ha ha!!
You always do such a great job mixing your prints---does it come naturally?

    1. I had 20 years off city life (well, town and city) before I came here, so I don't yearn for that at all. I do love my little escapes from time to time, but can't imagine wanting to live anywhere else but here. It's so beautiful, how could I find somewhere to rival it? The pattern mixing is a recent joyful discovery for me. It's simply about finding the connection between the pieces, whether it's the pattern or the colour.

  2. Love your monochrome outfit - how svelte you are!

Your island and St. Mary's look gorgeous. I'd love to visit the Scilly Isles and the Scottish Isles - I have both on my list of must see places.

How nice that you're meeting up with another blogger - it just goes to show that world really is a small place after all!

    Have a lovely week

    1. So we could be planning our own bloggers meetup too one day Veronica? Sounds great. These islands are very beautiful, but so are the Scottish islands - it's just that there are so many of them to see compared to only five here. Not that I'm biased or anything.
Have a great week too x

    1. Dearest Kezzie, I was hoping you'd drop by to see this. It was such a wonderful start to the day, seeing that cruise ship and then having a wonderful swim in these clear waters. Idyllic stuff.
      See you soon x

  4. This outfit is really brilliant. The little t-shirt has a versatility that is really great and when you combine it with another pattern in the pants the whole outfit is elevated to GENIUS. Your shoes are beautiful too (a soft grey?)
For me a humorous moment occurred as you were moving around to different backgrounds. When you were in front of the logs I mistook them for a junk pile and thought,"oh my, she really is working a point about over consumption!!"
I'm really enjoying your blog and your unique location Anna. Glad I found you among the amazing group of women I just recently started to follow.

    1. Pattern mixing is one of my favourite new games Marilee. The shoes are almost putty coloured therefore a good neutral to tie in with most colours. That junk pile would have taken a bit of clearing up LOL! My unique location was one of the reasons I decided to start up my blog - we all think our own life is ordinary, but I realised that this beautiful island is worth sharing. It's great to have you as a new follower and I love all of your comments.

  6. I love the little jacket with the slim pants - lovely pattern mixing, as others have noted! Oh, I would love to visit your little island one day, but it's so danged expensive to get off my OWN island - several hundred bucks just to spend a night in Vancouver, for example. Gah. Why don't we have transporters? Beam me up!

    1. My dream would be to visit Canada and meet up with you, Suzanne and Melanie, but I think it may just remain a dream unless I have a windfall. A transporter sounds like the perfect soloution. Have a good week x

  7. Hi Anna, lovely mixing of monochrome pattern and as for the'little black accessory'that made me nostalgic for its bigger brothers who used to whisk me over to Tresco. I made a beeline for the back seat to get views both ways! In one of your earlier post you showed your yellow and black brogues. That inspired me to get some. Mine are pink and beige. Do you wear yours with or without socks/popsocks/footsies?

    1. That was my favourite place to sit too. In the winter I tend to wear socks with my brogues, but come summer is just bare feet for me. Your pink and beige ones sound nice - are they from Clarke's by any chance? I did see some like that recently. Thanks for your comments x

  8. What an exquisite place you live! I adore the city, but I also adore anywhere remote. It is the in-between suburban life that kills me! I'm so jealous of your daily dips in the sea.

Your pattern mixing is absolute perfection. I love it, and I love how much fun you're having with fashion.

    1. I'm blessed to live where I do, and never, ever take it for granted. But I do adore the odd escape to other places to experience different things. Sea swimming and clothes are my passions and both inject such fun into my life. Thanks for dropping by x

  9. Yes they are from Clarkes, after much surfing of the internet. I'll give them a try without socks.

  10. That is a very spiffy outfit. You look quite pretty and ready to jump around. Terrific shoes. Gosh. I think they ought to make you an honorary Islander!! You are certainly showing it off to a wonderful advantage.

  11. You look very lovely and put together in this outfit. You might know I love black and white. Great photos. Even though I am strictly a city girl. No islands for me, neither nature or beaches. Strange isn't it? I am different from most people I guess.

    1. I do love to visit cities myself Greetje, but I just couldn't live in one longterm. There's such a buzz from rushing around the shops and going to the theatre, but I do love the peace and solitude to be found within nature. Thanks for your feedback x

    1. I think you ought to test drive all of the islands. Most newcomers stay on St Mary's and from there you can catch a boat to all of the other islands. Everyone then seems to find their own favourite one. Click on the badge on my sidebar to see what the islands have to offer. And then we can arrange a bloggers meetup like Kezzie and I are x
