Mastering monochromatic at last

Earlier on this month I was taking part in the 5Over50 challenge and managed to misread the remit. Monochrome and monochromatic became one and the same to me, much to my ensuing embarrassment. See the post here. And so, somewhat belatedly, here is my take on monochromatic.

On reflection, it's no bad thing that I didn't wear this version for the challenge as Laurie and I both have this very same skirt (from F&F at Tesco). I had suggested this outfit to Polly by way of "What about nude?" and she insisted that "You're better than nude", resulting in my change of heart to black and white. Well, when I did finally turn up for work in this outfit, she loved it and declared that this wasn't just nude - it's nude and blush and pink and fluffy gorgeousness. So you like it then Poll?

Outfit details - skirt: F&F, cardigan: Sainsbury's, shoes: Primark, necklace: Debenhams, rings: charity shopped, sunglasses: Quay Australia, watch: Michael Kors.

If you're reading this on Sunday, then I'll be swanning about somewhere in Cornwall with my daughter. Annual health checks require me to be away from work at this busy time, but it's just for a couple of days. I'm sure that Polly will cope perfectly well without me to boss her about. I'll hit the ground running on Monday when I return to hang the new show in readiness for opening on Tuesday. I'm hoping to find something new to wear for the opening night, so fingers crossed eh?

  1. Lovely outfits all. Anna this combo of pinks is soft and so flattering. I do use different tones of the same hue quite often for outfits. To me monochromatic and monochrome mean the same thing.

  2. Lovely! Those bedroom "slippers" are just divine. They look like something from the 1950's pinups.

Hope your quick trip goes well.

    1. Golly, I'd forgotten about those fluffy bedroom mules! I had a wonderful turquoise pair when I was a teenager.

Mission accomplished, you could say as far as the jaunt goes.

  3. I love Polly! What great comments from her on both of your monochromatic oufits. It's hard to decide which one to love the most!!
This confection of soft pinkiness is SO PRETTY!!! I must say dear Anna; you are the epitome of femininity in this outfit.
I hope you have an excellent annual checkup outcome and that you can report to being "in the pink" on that level too.
Can't wait to see your next look!

    1. Polly is the perfect foil me with her honest advice and encouragment when I'm about to have a fashion wobble. And yes, I love her too!

I've come a long way to be happy in pink like this Jude. If you go back through my earlier posts, I never wore pink at all, so this is real progress. And now I'm dallying with red... it's all so outrageous!

Lovely to hear from you as always x

    1. Hi Nancy, I'm loving this trend for pleated skirts - in fact I loved them before they were a trend so that's even more satisfying somehow. Plumb Island is very similar to St Michael's Mount when you see it in the distance. Are you based in Cornwall too?

  6. I don't get the difference between monochromatic and monochrome- please explain!
LOVE this outfit- it is so pastel, beautiful and feminine! Polly is right- it is gorgeous and Nude is not you so much!

    1. Okay Kezzie, I'm going to quote what Ashley from Lazy Daisy Jones said on her blog about the difference - Monochromatic means using only one colour, not to be confused with monochrome which means two tones.

Anyway, I'm delighted that this outfit has won yours and others approval as I thought it might be a bit blah.

Am fit and well, thank you x

    1. Cheers for all of your lovely comments Monica! What I thought was a very simple, played-down look seems to have been quite a success, which is great.

The shoes were the masterstroke I fancy x

    1. Pleated skirts are always in fashion in my books. I love the dressing up/dressing down that they offer and I'm sure you'll find the same thing too Jacqui.

      Cheers!
