I'm off to London!

Hello and cheerio! I'm off to the big smoke today, so the blog may be a tad quiet for the next 10 days. What does an island girl pack for a week in London? Well, take a look at my attempt at a capsule wardrobe.

I'm going to wear my big winter coat as I have a boat and train journey ahead of me and this woolly bear of a coat will help to keep me cosy. I'll add a wrap as a scarf to double up as a pillow for a few zzzz's on the way too. I may wear some trainers for the trip as the boat can be slippery underfoot, but the boots are essential for stepping out in style on the streets of London. The glitter boots are new and the heel is a perfect height for comfort (I'll show you a bit more of them later).

I'm packing this new red dress as it's wrinkle free and will be versatile enough for any evening out to the theatre or dinner, or both! The pink is a skirt, the only one I've chosen. I'm taking one pair of jeans, one pair of leggings and two pairs of trousers.

I've had this Desigual sweater for a couple of years and yet have only worn it once and think the time has come for another outing. Two fluffy jumpers are going in as well as the fur gilet.

Then there's a white shirt, a black shirt, a floral shirt, a mesh jacket, a patterned roll neck and a new lace top, as well as my fabulous studded jacket.

My red dress is crying out for the red sock boots (as seen here), but I'm terribly worried that the fabric would get marked, wet or whatever in the general skirmishing that goes on when you descend into the depths of the London Underground. Steve sees every trip to London as a huge adventure, most of which involves walking for miles (to get the real feel of the place) or hopping on and off the tube when we're dashing to the theatre. Sitting in the back of a cab, stuck in traffic is not his idea of an authentic experience! Red boots therefore, may have to stay home, or perhaps I can fit them into my wee black leather backpack for changing in situ? Ho hum, we'll see!

And here's the glitter boots as promised. They're from Primark and so blooming comfortable too!

Those of you who know me well, will probably be chuckling at my capsule wardrobe; who's she trying to kid, you'll be saying. Yes, yes, of course I'm going shopping, and yes, yes of course I'll be itching to wear it all immediately, but at least I've got a full compliment of clothes in case I can't find anything new!

Outfit details - jacket: H&M (old), trousers and boots: Primark, tee shirt: pre-loved, necklace: Du Barre, watch: Michael Kors, sunglasses: Quay Australia, ring: pre-loved.

So that just about wraps it up. I hope to be posting on instagram while I'm away (wi-fi permitting) so do check it out here. In the meantime, I'll leave you with a photo of the birthday boy - today, the 23rd, is his actual birthday despite the celebrating that has been going on over the past few weeks.

Looking great for 60 isn't he?

  1. woaaa, love that you didn't create one of those 'black and neutrals' travel capsule, I'm loving all those fluffy jumpers and colors and textures. And your glitter boots are stunning! and they look very comfortable too, hope they work for those long walks!
And your outfit is amazing, I love particularly those mixed prints and textures, subtle color combo and cool style!!

    1. Oh dear, yes I know what you mean about those terribly chic black/neutral collections where each piece coordinates with the next. Well, clearly that suave look isn't me! A riot of colours and textures all thrown together with a huge dollop of fun is much more my thing. You and I are all about the joy of colour Monica.

      Thanks for dropping by again!

  2. Firstly, a big kiss to the youthfully handsome birthday boy. Great to see your travel capsule, so different to my current sombre one, but needs must. You're going to have fun with that suitcase capsule in London, and with all the lovely people you'll meet. Don't forget to buy that elusive red belt for your winter dress, eh? Wishing you both happy times and hugs in London, x.

    1. Isn't he wearing well, my lovely hubby! He and Sash are eating out at Covent Garden as I speak - seafood and live music - I think I'm missing a lively evening! I can't wait to see some of the sights and take in a show or two - talk about a complete contrast to island life. Oh, and let's not forget a wee bit of shopping, I'm really looking forward to that. I'll give Steve a hug from you and here's one right back from me to help with this difficult time.

      Take care!

  3. Ha ha! LOVE your travel wardrobe! Colourful and wild! Just perfect I'd say.

I own the same boots but figure that they are eventually going to get scuff marks, especially the yellow ones. We need to wear our pieces otherwise the fashion or our hearts will change and we won't get the chance.

Have an amazing time! I know you will : )

    1. Suzanne, the last thing I threw into my case this morning was my red sock boots. Like you, I realised that there's absolutely no point in keeping a pair of pristine boots in my closet at home when I ought to be gadding about in London in them doing my very own Anna's Island Style in town!

  4. I also adore that vibrant capsule wardrobe - right up my alley! And I'm happy to hear that you threw the red boots in at the last second - wear 'em! Life's too short to "save" things for "good". We have to USE things.

Enjoy your time in London, gadding about with Steve and Sasha! Glad to see I'm not the only one who extends birthdays out...Birthday Week? Nah, how about Birthday Month??

Got the package from you today - what a lovely surprise, thank you! I'll feature it in today's post. :) You are such a dear, thank you!

  5. You guys certainly have the right idea about celebrating these big birthdays - I'm taking notes here as I have mine in January.

I get to London by mid afternoon, so if you hear that there's a minor earth tremor, then you'll know that was me taking the city by storm, hahaha!

Am heading right over to catch up on your latest news.

  8. Really fab capsule! I'm told London is having a mini heatwave so you could probably have got away with the red boots. Looking forward to Saturday!

    1. Thanks Gail. I'm just watching the weather forecast and London is due to be about 18 degrees today, so maybe no need for my woolly coat today. Looking forward to meeting up with you on Saturday!

  10. What a fun bag of delight and color to set you on the right foot for a London adventure! Absolutely thrilled that you decided to include those red sock boots at the last minute. You're clearly setting a hopeful tone for a great trip! All the fuzziness in your luggage will be comforting and soothing during a day of romping all over town and the rainbow of colors will announce your cheerful attitude! Have fun!

    1. Thanks so much Jude. The temperature is quite high for this time of year making for an unexpected problem as to what to wear. A capsule collection is a challenge for me, especially if I have to dispense with fluffy jumpers and my woolly coat - oh what fun!

  11. Wow!

That's a very swish capsule wardrobe. I hope you both have a brilliant time in London. If you've got time try the charity shops in West Hampstead/Golders Green.

I knew that was a Desigual item as soon as I saw it - there's something about their designs that make them immediately identifiable.

I absolutely loved your outfit; the jacket is fabulous and goes so well with the trousers and amazing sparkly boots. You look gorgeous and I bet you cheered a lot of people up with that colour and sparkle!

    1. I'm not much good at capsule wardrobes, Veronica and this one is much bigger than I'd have liked. Having said that it seems to have all the elements to make up quite a few outfits and some of them were just right for the occasion. Sadly the Disigual jumper never seems to look as I'd wish and never got worn this time. I'm wondering if I need to do a bit of trying on before hand so that I have an outfit planned for it.
We're back home now, exhausted and all the better for a change of scenery too!

  12. Ha LONDON, what a lovely 10 days you will have. Expensive city for us Dutch. The pound may have dropped in value but it is still more expensive than the euro.
Your Steve looks indeed yummy 😎. You chose well back then. I grinned when I saw your capsule. You don’t travel light either. I hope you have a smashing time , see smashing shows and find terrific clothes.

    1. Yes, London can be expensive, but oh what fun we had Greetje! We dined out, watched movies, went to the theatre and art galleries, we shopped and let's not forget two bloggers meet ups too, so all in all, it was a wonderful break. The clothes were not so capsule to start with, but I gave it my best shot. Hubby is my dish of the day, now and always!

    1. I was in Truro yesterday and the Primark there have a silver version of these boots now, so you've not lost your chance to get a pair. The jacket is by Michael Kors which I found in TK Maxx some time ago, but has only come into its own recently. I've worn it such a lot during this holiday in London and love it all the more as a result.

  14. You know how dogs love to roll around in dead fish at the beach? They LOVE it! Well, I want to roll around in your clothes! The textures! The colours! They all speak to me. Your style is going to knock them out in London - although they probably already have - I'm so late here. I love your outfit. So thrilled that you're going in a big trip. I look forward to hearing all about it!

    1. As a child, I had a dog who used to roll in the smelliest things that he found on the beach, and oh what pleasure it gave him, so that's a huge compliment from you! The great thing about London is that you can wear what the heck you like and no-one bats an eye. Big cities are like that - you must find the same over in your neck of the woods too?
