Vintage vibe

So here's a lovely perk of having my daughter return to the fold; the hand-me-down of this vintage dress. A pop of pink is a perfect midweek pep up! (No extra charge for the tongue twister!)

The midweek rush did mean however that I forgot to bring out my new pink metallic shoes for this. Since my wardrobe changeover I've discovered a lot more winter shoes and boots than I knew I had, causing me a bit of a headache as I try to fit them all into accessible spaces. Hence the pink shoes aren't in with the main shoe collection. Hey ho, I'll just have to showcase them in my next post.

Much as I love these glitter brogues I really think the outfit would've looked better with heels. Chaos still reigns in my life even though it's October and I had assured myself that all would be calm by this time of year. My husband's 60th birthday has sidetracked me as I try to arrange a party for him this weekend. Last weekend we went to St Mary's for the night to join two of his childhood friends who are also turning 60. We had a great evening of gourmet food with immaculate service in unique surroundings followed by drinks in a local hotel. We spent the night in a B&B so that we didn't have to come back in our boat in the dark - very easily done when you know the way, but not how I wanted to end the evening. Can you believe I forgot to take my camera for that little jaunt? I'd love to do a repeat performance (perhaps for my 60th) and get some shots for the blog. Both the restaurant and the guest house deserve a shout out for the high standards they offer.

Sunday's post will feature a blogger's meet up here on the island. Do join me to see how we achieved the perfect selfie with lots of hilarity along the way.

  1. I'm such a huge fan of quirky vintages pieces and this one doesn't disappoint. Look at those fun sleeves!

I agree...this would have been cuter with some heels. You're still adorable though.

Happy Bday to your hubby. I'll never forget that wonderful story you told of him serenading you with The Boxer. Now every time I hear it I think of you two. : )

    1. Vintage always feels just a little bit different doesn't it? Next time I wear it though, it'll be with the pink heels that's for sure.
I'm hoping that Steve will give us all a rendition of the Boxer after he's had a few beers!

  2. Cor that's a smashing dress - I remember this style so well. I think you're right about the heels but, hey, glitter brogues are fabulous too!

    Happy 60th to your husband.

I bet it was the 'Pout' you met? Am I right?

    1. I'll have to give this another viewing with the heels at some stage just to get the votes in! And yes, I think you've maybe got wind of this from her earlier post.

  3. This is one fabulous dress, Anna! I love the bigass sleeves on it. Happy 60th to my fellow Libra, your husband! I like the brogues - I think heels might have looked a little twee with the dress. The brogues bring it into the 21st century!

    1. Thanks Sheila. I've yet to try the dress on with those pink shoes so have no idea how it will look. But a bit twee isn't a look I'm going for!

    1. Thanks so much Andrea! It's the first time I've worn it and must admit it felt really nice even with the flats. Next time I'll try it with heels and see how that goes.

    1. Oh, thank you so much Nancy! I've just put the post together and it does seem to be a bit long-winded, so be warned - you may need a cuppa to get you through it.

    1. I'm pleased you've given me the thumbs up re the tights and shoes, thanks Tessa! And yes, I'll try to get a snap of us both for the blog.

The B&B is called Freesia and the restaurant is Tanglewood.

      Enjoy your weekend.

    2. Thanks Anna, good to know. I have bought from Tanglewood but not eaten in. Sounds like a good choice.
      Enjoy your weekend.

  7. Really a classic 60's (?) print on the skirt of this dress. The shoes just don't feel right for some reason... maybe a sleeker less chunky brogue would do the trick. For some reason these are shortening your leg.
I love the pinkiness of the look!

    1. Yes, I think it's very 60's this frock. And I think you're right about the shoes - they do have a shortening effect on the leg. How I wish I'd worn my pink metallic heels - next time eh?

    1. Thanks so much Amy! The skirt and top are actually a dress which is equally fab don't you agree? Not sure how to answer about my waistine - I think I battle with this like most women if the the truth be knwon!

      Thanks for dropping by!

  10. Well, I hope we get to hear his rendition of the boxer now that he's famous for it! Plus, I'd love to see your surrounding islands and have always enjoyed your jaunts off island (and the ones on!) so you'll have to celebrate something soon! Though I do hope you get some calm now before the cold winter sets in so you can enjoy the autumn. Ah, peaceful times ahead!

The memo on calm weather seems to have gotten lost as we're just having one fierce gale after another at the moment. The joys of island life I think!

  11. Those Pink shoes would have been great with this outfit too Anna, although you may have turned out like monochromatic me! The Black look really good anyway. I meant to say about those pink shoes, have you tried the gel pads for getting more comfort at the back of the shoe for a tighter fit? Boots have some called Sticky Heelz. This might help. xx

    1. Laurie, I never think of you as monochromatic! The glittery shoes were okay, but pink would have been miles better. I like the sound of Sticky Heelz and will take a look when I'm on the mainland soon.

  12. Always when I see pictures like these I think: “ Gosh she has a stunning figure”. And I agree with you on the shoes. The glitter brogues are lovely but I would have chosen a high heel for this outfit too. Which is no surprise really as I always want high heels 😎.
