The final summer show!

I really can't quite believe that another entire summer show period has come and gone. Summer in my book is highlighted by the start of our exhibitions and ends 60 days later when the six shows are all done and dusted. We opened our final summer exhibition on Friday the 24th August, sadly without any artists in attendance and also without a single shot of my lovely assistants. Life, as they say, rarely goes to plan and just to add insult to injury the perfect summer weather I had imagined somehow failed to appear. Instead the sky was grey and the wind was mighty fresh!

This is my vintage two piece that I bought in Harrogate for £8. It's real silk too.

The padded shoulders make me think this is an 80's piece, but please tell me if you know otherwise. The skirt length too indicates an 80's hemline don't you think? I certainly felt a bit Dallas in this.

Fuchsia was what came to mind when I was searching for my accessories. The handbag and rings are all preloved, of course. The oversized pearls are from Debenhams.

The shoes are from TK Maxx (£14.99) and are by Miss Selfridge.

The belt was a gift from my friend Bo in Portugal. She also sent me a dark green version too. Both are leather with elastic back, which is my favourite type of belt, but of course you know that already.

Here's a peek at the gallery just before opening and if you want to see the show in full you can see it online here. The party went really well; much busier than I expected given the wet and windy evening. I had resigned myself to having a very slow start with just a trickle of guests, but it was a lovely turn-out with sales being strong too. My windswept photo shoot was before the show and I had planned to capture the team at the end of the evening as we always do, but instead I was tied up with a last minute purchase and when I finally finished, I discovered that the girls had deserted me in favour of dinner at the pub!

And finally, I forgot to mention that the skirt has pockets - hurrah!

Have a lovely week.

  1. Oh, definitely 80s - late, probably around '87? '88? I remember those two-pieces very well - I had an orange and black one!

Wow, another summer gone so quickly! Sorry to hear the weather didn't cooperate (you and Vix both!), but when does it ever?? Congratulations on a great end to your summer season, Anna! Now, you need a breather!

    1. This summer does seem to have been busier and therefore quicker than ever Sheila. And the shows have had a wonderful response which makes all the hard work worthwhile.
I love that you are so well versed in the details and dates of these vintage pieces. What knowledge your passion has created.

      Have a great week!

  2. I love anything in silk. Definitely an 80s look, which is very "in" I read in Grazia. I love those belts too. Pity about the weather. I am getting ready to drive to Cambridge for work and it's very wet and grey. Autumn is taking hold.

    1. Silk is so easy and comfortable to wear isn't it? I'm happy to learn that my vintage piece is on trend - always a bonus to find you're in step with fashion every once in a while!
We're still holding out for an Indian summer here...

      Wishing you a lovely week!

  3. So lovely is that dress! I like the full skirt and the cinching with the wide belt creates a super line. The fuschia lifts the outfit. Well done and I'm glad your season ended well.
    Hugs, x.
P.s. grey and grim start to our day too.

    1. Thanks Mary for your lovely comments. I felt the pop of pink was just what was needed on that overcast evening and the photos did look better for it.

Was it just about a year ago that you were visiting the islands?

      Enjoy your week!

    1. You're so very kind Monica. I'm a great believer in the right accessories making the most of an outfit - but there again, I know you are blessed with that skill yourself!

      Have a fab week!

  5. Love this 80's piece! I'm all for silk for summer. And the colours are wonderful.

That belt is a great gift! Aren't you lucky?

Those shoes are something else. I envy that you are able to walk around in a heel that high. My dogs would have been barking after 5 minutes.

Glad your final show was a success. Now you can take a well deserved breather.

    1. Silk is indeed perfect for the summer, even though it's taken me all summer to get around to airing this one. And those shoes - I bought them in April and have only worn them the once so far. I fancy that they'll be great for Christmas party time too.
A breather isn't on the cards quite yet. Maybe in October when things are quieter I can take a bit of time off.

      Have a super week!

  6. So finally here's the vintage silk two piece! At a guess, it's mid to late 80s, and I love it, especially since it has pockets! Fuchsia was a great choice, and I'm especially enamoured by those lovely shoes. What a pity the weather wasn't more summery that day. I can't believe that summer is almost over either ... xxx

    1. I'm pleased you like this long awaited outfit Ann. You and Sheila both know your vintage pieces don't you? The shoulder pads made me think 80's but I couldn't have been as accurate as you two.
We're hoping to have a final reprise of summer as so often happens in September here on the islands. Fingers crossed!

      Cheers,

  7. Even if summer is moving on Anna it sounds like you made excellent use of the season! Seems that both your business and your first few months of being 60 are turning out quite nicely!
That pattern and beautiful cobalt blue of hour 2 piece look won my love immediately! The belt really makes it look like a dress and your decision to pop in a bright pink makes the whole look more fun. Those shoes are cute and sexy all at once!
Congratulations on another prosperous and zen summer on your wonderful island home Anna!

    1. Thanks for your fulsome comments (is that you Jude?) and I'm delighted that the look meets with your approval. As I said previously, I really think you can turn any outfit into a winning look provided you add the right accessories. The shoes were short lived I'm afraid as I had to resort to the sparkly flats after a while of teetering around, but hey they will be coming out again in the hope I can break them in next time.
It's been a very healthy summer at the gallery and therefore a happy one for me too!

Wishing you a zen week, my dear!

    1. Oh Nancy, that's a question for my vintage queens above (Ann and Sheila) and not something I could answer with any certainty. Luckily the charity shops here have vintage racks nowadays which helps the uninitiated like me.
I do hope you get some lovely weather for your UK holiday!

      Best wishes

  10. What a lovely outfit! It definitely reminds me of the 80s and I love the colours. The fuschia shoes look wonderful with it. I also loved the dress the you wore in your previous party post and the Scilly cow was hilarious.

I bet you've had a marvellous summer swimwise; I only managed one swim in the sea whilst I was away, the weather was not very conducive to swimming on the West Coast of Ireland....

    1. Hi Vronni, long time no see! I hope you've had a great time in Ireland. I must pop over to catch up on your latest. In the meantime, thanks for your comments. I've enjoyed my swimming this summer, but as always feel I could have done with a few longer swims.

      Wishing you a fab week!
