Pattern play and seriously tight skinnies.

Skinnies, hmmm, not really my thing y'know. I mean, I do like tight jeans, but these are my first pair of "super skinnies". These pastel hued babies were too good to pass over when I spied them in my latest raid of the Truro charity shops. They are ridiculously tight (no back views this time), but I suppose that's why they call them skinnies. Massively in their favour is the flower print which lifts them out of the ordinary.

The story that runs throughout today's outfit is the pale pink which is present in the jacket, blouse, jeans and brogues. I love the fact that the blouse and jeans are almost in an identical flower print, but with a different background colour. Leopard print and florals wouldn't be an obvious choice for most, but the pink hue links everything together beautifully. Pattern play needs to be applied with a light touch, not be over thought, and stopped before it turns into a jumble sale. I always lay everything out on the bed first, swapping things in and out until I get the right balance. There has to be a major player or else everything will just be jockeying for position. Here, it's this rather exquisite satin leopard print jacket that takes the lead (the black makes it dominant) allowing everything else to fade and blend while the eye takes it all in. The size of the patterns are all pretty uniform here too which helps with the mellow flow of things. Sometimes it's more that one pattern will be much larger than the others that will make it the dominant feature. Lesson over my lovelies. Most importantly, have fun.

Tomorrow is time for our monthly Ping Pong Post challenge and for no other reason than that, I'm going to have to love you and leave you. That feature is still in need of some work from me and I don't want to let the ladies down. This one is to be a bit different, probably a one-off, and requires a bit more organising from all of us involved. I do hope you'll find time to come back for another visit so soon - I promise it'll be worth it!

  1. Your legs are so toned that they suit these skinnies to a T!
No oozage or thigh crinkle going on here Anna...Hats off to you!

Some of my skinny jeans are SO tight I call them Gyne jeans (hahahaha...that is very cheeky!) and a long top is essential.
    I still love them though.

This is a great look Anna.
    Fun.
    Slightly tomboyish.
    Girly.
    The perfect mix.

    1. Great to have your vote of approval Samantha! I'd say these feel pretty much like gyne jeans to me... Trying to cover a few more casual looks on the blog. Keep mixing it up eh?

    1. I think I've probably collected skinnes over time, but don't wear them often as it's usually workwear that I'm showing. I just was desperate to show this fab jacket and these fitted the bill.
Have a fab week too x

  3. You never have to lure me back to visit your blog, Ping Pong post or not! I love your amazing style and savvy when it comes to making outfits. This is a fabulous example, of course - the shoes (oh golly, I need pink brogues!), the skinnies (yup, been there, very tight!), and the blouse, and then GAH, that leopard satin! Be still my heart!

    1. The pink brogues and jacket were the starting point Sheila. I've had the jacket for a while now, but couldn't find the right pieces to showcase it - am happy with how it worked out though. Pink brogues aren't really on everyone's wishlist, but hey I love mine!
      Have a great day x

  4. Love the skinnies, love the pretty blouse want to hire a special task force to steal the darling pink brogues BUT wouldn't combine all of those with the animal print. I guess I'm just more of a traditionalist than I want to admit.
I like the jacket however, and I REALLY like you Anna so I'll continue to think about how I can push my perceived, styling limits.
Thanks for your influence toward that goal!=)
Looking forward to the upcoming Ping Pong Post where you join two of my other favorites Samantha and Anne!

    1. Hi Judy! It's good that I've got you thinking at least. So let's just start with the pink brogues eh? I know the jacket is maybe a step too far if you're feeling conservative, but maybe when you're in a more playful mood? Hope you enjoy this special edition of PPP coming up very soon...

  5. This delicate pattern on your jeans and shirt looks so pretty. I really like such combinations - flowers on trousers look like a washed out copy of those on shirt. And .... the shoes !!! Great :) . Cheers - Margot

    1. Thanks Margot. I thought the jeans and shirt were just made for each other. I could easily have found a toning jacket, but thought it might all look a little bit blah. Glad you like the shoes too x

    1. Dearest Kezzie, that's so very kind. I did have to laugh at the wonderful image your conjured up there - I don't recall you having duck feet?! Although that may explain how you managed to swim off to so quicky that day xxx

    1. Thank you Laurie! The colour combo was really very satisfying to find. I do feel that skinnies are for those bean-pole legs - not for muscular ones like mine. But hey, it went down ok x
      Have a lovely Sunday!
