Winter woollies

I know there are parts of the UK which are being hammered by sleet and snow currently, but thank goodness we in the far southwest are not. Still, we do have a bitter north wind blowing across the islands and I'm taking cover with my favourite woollen coat.

The coat was a holiday purchase when Steve and I were on our cruise last February see here. The colours pack a punch and it's a real lift on the dark days of winter. Like lots of people I suffer from the winter blues and tend to drift into wearing gloomy shades of grey and black in the winter, so this coat is a brilliant antidote to the blahs. My handbag is a brand new addition, a great find in a charity shop in Penzance. It's ostrich hide, but best of all, it's a perfect match for the bright pink tone in my coat. I've been on the lookout for a stylish bag to take away when I go to the mainland in this fine coat and I found this bag in the very first charity shop on arriving in Cornwall in December. The bonus feature is that the bag is dual purpose acting as both a conventional handbag and a neat backpack. It's great to have a classy bag that I can pop on my back for hands-free shopping.

My other new purchase worth mentioning has to be these glitter boots. I can take no claim in finding these, as I stole the idea from my utterly sleek, style icon of a niece, Kate. We all spent some time together over Christmas and the first time she turned up wearing these wonderful boots I knew I had to have a pair too. By the time I came to buy them, they were in the sale at Topshop see here which was double the joy for me. I don't plan to pack them away until next Christmas. No, I'll be wearing them as and when I think the outfit warrants. You can wear a sprinkling of glitter any time of year in my book!

The rest of my outfit comprises - cashmere polo neck: M&S (charity shopped), trousers: HM, rings: gifts.

I'll leave you with this shot taken from my office window looking across the bay to Bryher. There was a momentary break in the cloud to give a glimpse of the sun setting and a tantalising peek at the blue sky before the next dark clouds obscured the view. The resulting heavy rain over us may well have fallen as snow on mainland Cornwall.

    1. Thanks Andrea! I loved your orange coat the other day as I felt it was the perfect lift for a gloomy winter day too. Sometimes we just have to add a burst of colour to pep things up, don't we?

Wishing you a great week x

  2. Wow, that coat is just the thing for days like today...drab, dreary, dank, it would certainly lift my spirits. Enjoyed reading about the shop in Italy where you purchased it. What a serendipitous find the handbag was, it couldn't have been more perfect!

    1. Thanks Fiona. That shop was a real Aladdin's cave - I'm sure I could have run amok had I not been on a budget. I wonder if a visit to that boutique might be reason enough to visit Sicily again, hahaha!
And yes, what joy it was to come across this perfect handbag - the match colourwise is totally spot on - hurrah!

      Have a lovely week x

Glad you like the boots too, aren't they rather fabulous? I could see you wearing a pair like these no problem!

Hope you have a fab week x

We had wet but mild weather today and I'm hoping it lasts...

    1. Whenever and wherever I wear this coat, I get so many compliments. It's not the kind of thing you come across in the UK is it? I adore it, and do wonder how I ever managed without it.

Fingers crossed that the weather improves x

  7. That coat is related to my pink Muppet skirt, I think! It's wonderful and I bet it's soft and warm. I love the pants and glitter boots - and I totally agree that there is no limit on when you can wear glitter. Cold but clear over here - it's supposed to get to our normal winter (rain and temps around 8-10) this week.

    1. It is so soft and warm Sheila, and may indeed be a distant relative of your Muppet skirt! I can see that these lovely glitter boots can be incorporated into so many of my winter outfits - I fear my readers may tire of them before I do...

  8. You've done some fine parter mixing here Anna! The coat of course is the main attraction and I LOVE the pnk ostrich backpack/handbag. Ostrich is a material you don't see very often! Pink ostrich is totally unique!! And then there's your fun print jeans peeking out from beneath your coat. I can see that they are a pink pattern but I wish I could see more of them!! I have a "thing" for patterned jeans and so I was left wanting a bit there.
    Great post Anna! STAY WARM!!

    1. Thanks Judy, for all of your kind compliments. The ostich handbag is pretty unique I think, and is really vivid in the flesh, but I love it.
I'll have to showcase the trousers (not jeans) when Polly comes back so that you can see them a bit clearer. My point and run is working for the photoshoots, but only just!
Warmer weather is on the way, thank goodness - my morning swims are as brisk as ever.

      Enjoy your week x

    1. Thank you Kezzie for all of your lovely compliments. I think we all do our bit to banish the winter blues and colour therapy is my way. The bag was a brilliant find and is exactly the same shade of pink as in my coat - what a joy for me! And hey, these glitter boots - what's not to love?

So kind of you to drop by again. I'll return the favour.

  14. What a firecracker of a coat - a beautiful explosion of colour. The paisley print pants and glittery boots add to the exhuberance. The bag is quite a find, obviously your charity shops are of a much better calibre than the ones we have here. Enjoy your week , stay bright and cheery.

    1. Firecracker is a great description for this woolly wonder. My bag and coat are going to be happy partners from here on in Jill, and there will be no apologies for that. I decided to pull together all of my favourite colours, fabrics and patterns for this outfit and was very pleased at the feel-good factor it created.

  17. Oh my! I am in LOVE with your coat and bag! THe plaid is interesting and I love the mix of the red and the magenta in this coat, fit is perfect too! I laugh as it seemed before blogging, when I would see an article of clothing or shoes I liked and asked someone where they bought it, it was always somewhere unatainable! Those pants are the perfect accompaniment with your coat as those saturated colors are shared with your coat. Just beautiful Anna! I too have trouble with grey/winter months.

    1. Dear Jess, thanks so much for your wholehearted approval of this entire outfit. I struggled with the weather that day trying to get out of the wind to get this photographed and even once done I wasn't sure it worked. It's been so good to have lots of lovely feedback to prove to me that the outfit, not the backdrop was important.
Today we had wall to wall sunshine and I made the most of it by getting out for an early swim, and finding lots of chores that needed me to leave work and soak myself in vitamin D laden sunshine. It's been bliss. I hope you can get a burst of sun on your skin too during these winter days.

  19. What a great idea to wear bright clothes during these dark months. I actually bought new bed sheets, pillow covers and a quilt in yellow to brighten up my bedroom to give myself a lift but never thought about brighter clothes. I'll look into that now -- might be a reason for a bit of shopping -- at least for a new purse! Julia
