Staycation

At this time of year my husband and I would normally be heading off on holiday somewhere, but this year I've opted to take the whole of February off to catch up at home. Steve is currently visiting friends on the mainland and at the end of the month will be helping our daughter move into a new flat in Truro. My month off will be filled with chores and downtime in what hopefully will be a restorative balance.

You may recognise my photographer's style today - Polly works nearby and I managed to hijack her on her lunch break. She's due to return to the gallery once again at the start of March, but in the meantime I'll be hoping to sidetrack her as often as I can.

Today's outfit was mostly found in charity shops at the latter end of last year. The dress, tights, boots and bag were all from those in Penzance or Truro which are my local stamping grounds while I'm away. The bag was brand new and is Italian made. The jacket was from Tesco in the pre-Christmas sale and my necklace was a Christmas present. My sunglasses are by Quay Australia and my rings are old.

I hope to get out and about this month, provided the weather permits, and showcase some island views. The boat service is still limited at this time of year, so I've no plans to island hop quite yet. In the meantime here's a couple of shots from the past week.

This shot from my office window is untouched, without a filter, showing an eerie lilac light at the end of the day. As I walked to the shop it was like being on a film set. Awesome.

And this was just two days later, where common sense prevailed and I decided not to have my daily sea swim!

On the 2nd February plans were passed to reinstate the helicopter service between the UK mainland and the Isles of Scilly. For those of us living on the islands and for all the businesses and holiday makers this will greatly enhance our lives. This reinstatement of the helicopters will help to ensure a comprehensive travel service in and out of the islands. The windsock flies over the heliport once again with a real sense of purpose.

    1. Tessa I wonder if this smaller helicopter will offer that snug back seat? It's all very exciting that's for sure!
The handbag is my current favourite, so you might see a lot of it.
Lovely to hear from you x

    1. Laurie there is something very jet-set about sweeping into the island by helicopter. Perhaps that's how you'll choose to arrive...?
And yes, I'm sure the handbag will be great with lots of summer brights.
      Have a fab week x

You know me Jodie, the brighter the better as far as clothes and bags go. I can't wait to bring my summer things out to see what will work with this fab bag!

  4. Your dress has a bit of the flapper era flair and I really love the print and the subtle blend of colors!
Your island home is a really magical
place. I grew up on the shore of Lake Superior in northern Minnesota and there is a mezmerizing charm in that lake (largest of three Great Lakes) that I see evoked in your pictures of the sea in this post.
Hey! Your dress matches some of the hues in that photo of the violet sky!
Have a lovely month off Anna!

    1. I thought this had a bit of a flapper feel to it too Judy. The print is slightly fuzzy though, and reminds me of when I have a migraine coming on!
These islands are quite magical to all who live here and visit, that's the truth. It seems to lure visitors back time after time with its siren's call. I try to capture the feeling of the place with my shots, but there's so much more than you can see.
      Thanks for dropping by x

Glad you like the outfit. I had worried that it was a bit tame. And yes, it's a pretty amazing place to live x

    1. Thanks so much. It's wonderful news indeed about the helicopter.
I wasn't so sure about this outfit as I thought it was maybe rather ordinary. I'm never sure about my judgement.

  8. It's good to have time off to catch up with yourself otherwise it feels like you're running to stand still!

I love the dress; it was a little difficult to make out the colours - mostly blues I thought? The pink bag and pinkish tights make a great contrast. It's a really nice outfit and looks great on you.

Great news about the helicopter service reinstatement - there'll be no stopping you now - Truro and Penzance here comes Anna....

    1. Oh Veronica, I really appreciate having this time to catch up. I've been feeling over-run with chores for the past couple of months and kept putting things off knowing that this time was coming. Already I feel tons better and know this can only continue to get better.

The dress is violet and yellow shades which is quite an unusual combination for me. My tights and boots are the same shade of burgundy. I wasn't confident about showing it on the blog as it felt a bit blah at one stage, but left it for a week or so and am now happier with it. Polly did a great job making it look better than I felt it did.
Thank goodness it's going to be another 12 months until the Penzance heliport is completed. That gives me time to sort out the mountains of clothes I've collected and save some money for the next lot.
      Have a great week x

  9. Enjoy your staycation , sometimes just being home and able to do things at your own pace is just what you need. Looking very chic in that pretty outfit with your boots and fuschia bag. The helicopter to your island will no doubt make life easier for many, how special to arrive home by helicopter. I also live on an island, a one hour flight or overnight ferry from the mainland. Good luck catching up.
