Easter exhibition night

Our first show of the season took place last night with resounding success, I'm delighted to say. The gallery looks fantastic, filled with a diverse collection of paintings and new glassware produced for this exhibition. You can view the show online here and I'll give you some inside shots of the gallery at the end of the post. But let's start with the team who performed like a well-oiled machine to make the evening run perfectly - Ruth, Polly and Heather.

Strike a pose for the blog ladies!

This vintage dress was a purchase in September when I was away on the mainland. I kept it to wear over Christmas, but then decided to save it for our exhibitions instead, and I'm glad I did. It's an 80's piece with huge shoulder pads, this wonderful ruffle hem and is Italian made by Gina Bacconi. The shoes are by Jessica Wright which I bought in TK Maxx in my recent post here. My necklace is by Magpie Vintage and rings are charity shopped.

The exhibition features paintings by Tom Holland, Wendy McBride, Gary Long, Jon Evison and Richard Guy. Rob Braybrooks is showing work in woodcut from beech which is quite unusual. In addition we have a glass collection created by Will Shakspeare which are sketches of the landscape/seascape.

The gallery window overlooks New Grimsby bay with the islands of Samson in the distance to the left and Bryher to the right. The tide rolls in, the tide goes out, but this ever changing view never fails to enchant.

    1. Thanks Laurie. I'm really glad I kept the dress for an exhibition - it's quite special isn't it?

I love glassware too, and collect a few bits and pieces. These are all rather lovely I must admit.

    1. Alexis Carrington, yes I suppose I can see where you get that from, hahaha! The frock is a blast from the past, but is a real gem of a piece. I'll keep this forever I think.

Your outfit for the opening is a knockout!!! The ruffle is so glamorous and yet fun at the same time and those shoes!!! WOW!!! They are quite wonderful.
This outfit speaks to how happy you are to be back in the gallery, doing "one" of the things you do well. I feel welcomed to the new season too! =-)

    1. Yes, we're all back in the groove Jude and it's good to get the first show under our belts.

I may have peaked a bit early here with this outfit as I'm not sure that I have anything to rival it for the rest of the season, but hey I'll give it my best shot! Be aware that these shoes will most definitely be making another appearance or two, that's for sure.

    1. So very kind Mary. This dress was such a find - it's a designer piece from Italy and looks every inch of it too.

    1. The glass is superb isn't it Vronni? I totally love it too.

I don't have far to walk between home and the gallery thank goodness, and then spent most of the opening night hovering by the desk. Having said that, my poor feet were throbbing a bit after three hours in these beauties. Suffering for my art I think you might call it!

  9. What an amazing setting for the gallery, Anna. The exhibition looks beautiful, I love the blue glass work - and your very 80s dress and little boots very chic and glam for the important occasion. xx

    1. The gallery was once an old boat shed, hence being located right on the edge of the beach. My office is above this gallery window and affords the same view, so I'm very lucky indeed.

The glass is gorgeous and I must admit I do have my eye on one special piece...

Thanks for your lovely compliments x

  11. Oh my, the HEM of that dress is amaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing! It's SOOO statement and glamrous! I have a pink pleated dress which has a sort of wannabee version of that hem which i wore for my sister in law's wedding and people were fascinated by its sort of simple ruffled version of yours so I can only imagine how much attention you got! The team looks fab too!
OOOHHH, that glassware is utterly amazing! If that had been on the island when I had been there, there is no doubt I might have gone home having bought something from the collection!! It reminds me of what I love about Sea glass! The interplay with light. So glad the exhibition was well-received!!xx

    1. Kezzie how lovely of you! The hem is amazing indeed and was what attracted me to it in the shop. Your pink version sounds very pretty too.

The glass collection has gone down so well and I'm selling pieces most days. I love the sandblasted finish which, as you so rightly say, is reminiscent of sea glass. The idea of sketches on glass is something I've not seen like this before, especially to this high standard. I've still got my eye on one special piece...

      Have a fab weekend x
