Gingham and florals

Yesterday started off with a mere glimmer of sunshine in the sky, but that was all the encouragement I needed to roll out a couple of my favourite trends from the summer before they have to be packed away. The gingham and flowers are in perfect harmony especially when paired up with monotone accessories.

I find myself at this time of year fighting a sense of panic that I still haven't managed to show you all of my purchases from the current season. It seems so sad to have to pack up these colourful delights without them making their debut. My blogging friend Sheila of Ephemera always makes a point of wearing her new purchases as soon as possible which makes perfect sense to me now.

I think I had, somewhat foolishly, believed that after the heatwave in June, we would be blessed with another burst of sun where one day followed on after the other, joining up to make something that resembled summer - no such luck eh? If we have the occasional bright day, be aware that I'll be subjected you to something bright too, for my own satisfaction. Today's outfit may be familiar to you, but previously seen as separates which are married joyfully in this ensemble. The black and white accessories tie it all together - black belt, shoe boots and petticoat and the white jumbo pearls, sweetly finished off with my favourite black and white sunglasses. The shoes are in fact brand new though - from Tu at Sainsbury's in the July sale for £8, yippee!

Outfit details - skirt: H&M, top: George at Asda, shoes: Tu at Sainsbury's, belt: Dorothy Perkins, necklace: Debenhams, petticoat: eBay, leather jacket: preloved, rings: preloved, sunglasses: Quay Australia.

  1. do I love this outfit Anna! The mix of gingham with the black and white in the floral pattern is perfect! i love the bright yellow and the fun and funkiness in this style. looks so good on you, especially with the beautiful leather moto jacket! i have a collection myself, as the weather here doesnt get too cold for long.. so they work more than a wool coat for me.

    1. Lovely to hear from you Jess. I've worn this combo a couple of times this summer, but this is the first time I got some shots of it. And yes, as you say the unworn summer purchases will just have to wait. There's a tiny window of opportunity for me to get out these little leather jackets before the temperature drops to coat weather.

      Have a great weekend!

    1. What a fantastic response Jude. It's wonderful that you appreciate the joy of dressing up as much as I do. I do have moments when I'm sifting through my clothes when I think "Ah, Judy will love this!" and sure enough, you always do! We're getting more in tune, the longer we know each other - sweet!

      Have a lovely weekend x

  3. Thank you for the shout-out! I'm pretty sure I gush whenever you wear this skirt, but wow, I love it. The black and white accessories are so perfect - I am entering a neutral phase a bit these days, and just love how the layers of patterns work together.

I have been stockpiling fall/winter clothes and am looking forward to building outfits with them soon! September is my month for getting those "last time" wears out of my favourite summery things.

    1. This is my one and only scuba skirt and oh how I wish I'd bought the second one I fancied last year as they work so well. I'm putting together a couple of last time outfits this weekend in the hope of having some finer weather to capture them. I know the wardrobe changeover is on the horizon and feel I must make the most of these final summer days too.
