Weekend wear

One of my highlights of the winter period is that I have the entire weekend off. During the height of the summer I often only manage to take one day off a week, so a whole weekend seems like absolute luxury.

And there is nothing more luxurious for the weekend than this little number. Are we talking Athleisure wear here? Many moons ago this would simply have been called a jogging suit, but we none of us went jogging in them. Loungewear then, maybe?

Regardless of the name, this is my idea of comfort when I'm chilling at home.

I found this in Zara on Oxford Street in my recent trip away. The truth of the matter is that I could have spent a small fortune there. Steve excused himself from the arena which was a very wise move. I was like a wild cat stalking its prey just before darkness fell; the clock was ticking, and I knew I had to be selective. I took five things into the changing rooms and bought three. Very restrained, by my standards, but this was real shopping at real prices - no thrifting bargains to be found here.

The trainers are a purchase from earlier this year. A lovely find in TK Maxx for a snip. I think I maybe prefer my black trainers (see here) with these trousers though.

It's difficult to say what I love best about this outfit. Firstly the velvet is soft and cosy, the colours are vibrant, the embroidery intricate and enriching to the overall feel, and the loose fit is essential for comfort, but I suppose the winning design feature has to be the wonderfully deep pockets in the trousers that deliver the real slouch factor. It's still in stock here, but be quick, I fancy it will sell out soon!

My next post will be another joint feature with my daughter. Sasha and I will be styling up our brocade boots, a trend that's still going strong this winter. That will be on the 20th, so do join us to see the results. The 5 Over 50 challenge for December has been chosen by Laurie of Vanity and Me Style and will be Christmas jumpers. We've moved the date of this to the 18th of December to allow us to capture a few festive shots. I'll be rooting about this weekend to see where my offerings are and looking at what I can wear to put a new spin on them. Our annual Christmas party is on Saturday the 16th (golly, only a month away) so I will be taking a look at what I have in the sequins and glitter department, again in the hope of finding something to inspire me. How's your Christmas events calendar looking? Or more importantly are you a "Bah humbug!" type or are you brimming with Christmas spirit already? Do let me know your thoughts on the festive season.

  1. I'm not sure if you've read this or not.

As a fellow thrifter that rarely shops in regular stores I too find them overwhelming and dangerous.

    1. Thank you for the link. I suspect that this is more common than customers realise, especially with these large companies who outsource the work.
Dangerous is a good word to describe them - I certainly feel potentially out of control when exposed to all the bright and beautiful array of goods, it's all too tempting.

  2. Beautiful detail and perfect colours for autumn. It's easy to lose oneself in Zara. Glad you're getting more time off now. I don't have the Christmas functions queued up now that I'm retired, saves me a fortune in dresses. Good luck with the jumper outfit, you ladies going to have some fun!
    Hugs,x.

    1. I'm really enjoying my weekends off Mary, that's for sure. I have a weekend of socialising coming up and then I shall have to find the Christmas jumpers to see if there's any inspiration there. Otherwise I may have to scour eBay!

    1. Thanks Kezzie. I did have a moment, just for a nano-second, when I thought it might be too much: too bright, too ornate, too crazy, but then I took it into the changing room and once on, it felt wonderful and very me!

  4. I always get very greedy at Zara s! I am not a big fan of atleisure wear if it is not meant to workout in it.....but.... I can actually see myself wearing your outfit with ankle boots! I actually like the look very much!

    1. Ankle boots Nancy? Well, there's an idea... I will have to take a look at my collection to see if there's something that would work with this. My red sockboots perhaps? Thanks for the suggestion.

  5. Oh Anna!! This is SO wonderful! You had me with the colors and the fun print; then you zoomed in and completely stole my heart! I've always been a huge fan of embroidery (and velvet too!) so of course I'd be smitten. This will be so cheery to put on when you come home from the gallery on a chilly evening.

    1. Judy, you're so right - this is the perfect end of the day outfit. My only worry that I may wear it out far too soon as I seem to be finding an excuse to wear it most days currently. And yes, the velvet and embroidery make the most wonderful combination.

  6. Zara is disappointingly no where near where I work or live. I really do miss out. That loungesuit is so you. I bet you will get masses of use out of it.

    1. Thank goodness Zara is no where near where I live either as I'd be in danger of becoming a regular and that would really impact on my bank account! However, the suit is already paying its way as I've worn it about six times already in a couple of weeks. Very me indeed!

  7. Now that's perfect athleisure- super stylish, looks good and velvet to boot. I'm a bit over Christmas these days, but I make the effort.

    1. I have a job not to grin at the athleisure word Gail. Modernspeak does give me rise to a wry grin or sometimes an outright laugh. I used it myself, but not with any conviction I'm afraid, as I deem this to still be a jogging suit.
At least you're not a outright Bah Humbug!

  8. What beautiful leisure wear! I love the embroidery and the colours and of course velvet is such a lovely soft fabric. I rarely visit mainstream clothes shops but I do know how tempting they can be!

    1. Temptations like this are reason enough to steer clear of the high street Vronni! But yes, now that I have it, I'm really enjoying the plush comfort and style of this suit.

  11. Anna, I meant to say to you that after seeing you in this so long ago, it remained in my head as something I really liked and wanted to get but not at Zara full price. Anyway, I've stalked various ones of the trousers on eBay and Depop and finally won a pair of the trousers for £8 (I think!)- they arrived today and they are super comfy BUT, they are mid-calf on me! Was so surprised!
