The best laid plans...

Yes, life rarely goes to plan and so it is for me that my promised feature of yesterday has flopped. Events have conspired meaning that Sasha and I haven't manged to do our joint shoot. But worry ye not, I'm here to show you brocade boots plus new trousers, my third item recently purchased from Zara.

As a teenager, flares were one of the first fashions I followed. I had a pair of bright blue satin bell bottoms that I wore with multi-coloured platform shoes and a mini seersucker smock top in rainbow stripes; my love of colour was just as evident then.

Outfit details are like this - jacket: a gift (thanks again Maggie), trousers: Zara, blouse: eBay, boots: ASOS, necklace: gift, rings: old, sunglasses: Quay Australia.

I really like how the high waist gives a lovely snug fit.

I was so pleased to come across these cropped flares in Zara last month. I've had this imaginary pair of trousers on my mind for some time, but hadn't managed to find them in real life. The shape is exactly as I'd envisioned, but I thought they might be a soft denim rather than corduroy, and certainly not in this lovely ginger colour. I wore them in London, but my camera was playing up so the shots aren't as crisp as they could be.

This variation details are - jacket: Michael Kors, roll neck: eBay, boots: Zara, ring:old, sunglasses: Quay Australia.

How's your week going? Are you on top of your Christmas plans and shopping lists? I'm about to take a look online to see if I can get some inspiration for toys for my great nieces and nephews. After that I'll get our turkey booked which will get me a bit closer to being prepared for the big day. Good luck with your shopping. Thanks for dropping by, and see you soon!

  2. I'm just starting with the presents but I've bought some edible Christmas goodies. I usually buy one thing per week when I do my weekly grocery shop so by the time Christmas is here most of the 'special' food is bought.

I love the jackets in both outfits and the trousers are fab; I do like the ring pull on the zip - very 1960s! I love the boots too; I must wear mine soon. I almost wore them today, but as I volunteer all day on Tuesday it wouldn't have been a good idea as they are bit high (for me)!

    1. My big food shops looms large this month Vronni, so your idea sounds much more organised. I really like the ring pull too - I think it was what caught my eye in the first place. I'm looking forward to seeing your boots soon.

  3. Swit swoo, look at you in your swishing trus! And such a great fit. Oh yes, a love a snug waist - comfortable without being constricting. Love, love, love them with that darling brocade jacket. Oh my that jacket really is divine.
And you're so on trend with the corduroy. Wonderful styling. Modern but with a retro vibe! Ah yes, the 70's flares. I remember them well!
Yes, life throws curve balls to knock our plans out the way but look what deliciousness you've been able to give us instead!

    1. Oh thanks so much Jacqueline for the great feedback. The brocade jacket was a gift from a girlfriend and every time I bring it out I get lots of lovely comments about it (thanks again Maggie, if you're reading this!).
The trait I like least about myself is being inflexible with my plans, so this was a good challenge to create a different post to what I expected. And hey, it was fine!

  4. I adore both pieces of brocade. I struggle with the trousers (just in general - these look FAB on you, Anna!), that flare shape, but I like this outfit overall.

I covet that studded black jacket - wow!

    1. What's not to love with brocade Sheila? It looks vintage in addition to giving a richness to the piece don't you think? Your boot collection is so huge I can't remember if you have brocade boots, but you surely do! The more I wear this studded jacket, the more I love it too.

  5. I so love how you've put this outfit together, Anna! The jacket is a total beauty, the trousers hang a treat and the colour mix is so rich. Loving the ruffles too!
I have yet to get started on Christmas but I'm putting together an idea for my Christmas card and once that's on order, the rest is usually plain sailing ... she says, lying through her teeth!!

    1. This outfit was all about the textures Mary: brocade, corduroy, frills, tapestry - they all came together to give a richness of fabric that was very pleasing; I'm glad you like it. You do sound very organised with your Christmas card design! You're putting me to shame with my charity shop ones.

  6. This outfit has an essence of Victorian, fancy, equestrian dressing and the sumptuous fabrics are making it happen. Although I love the brocade booties I'm passing on them. They'd not fare well in our winter snow and slush and in retirement I rarely wear a dressy look.
You look just beautiful Anna. Brocade jackets have always been a weakspot for me.

    1. You're so right about the brocade boots being prone to damage in winter weather and I certainly only wear mine on dry days, but I do love them and think they are very me no matter how impractical! I'm glad the jacket gets your vote of approval.

  8. Oh those pants - they take me back to a purple pair so long ago. They work beautifully with the brocade but also with the studded one for a more relaxed vibe. The boots are gorgeous , I do hope that trend lands down under next Winter.
As for Christmas , mine is small , so need to stress , it will happen.

    1. Isn't it funny how these trends keep coming around? Loon pants were another fashion from my youth that are back too. I can see me wearing these boots for years now regardless of fashion or trends - they're fabulous in my eyes and that's all that matters!
Your approach to Christmas sounds very sensible.

  11. Love this outfit, full of texture and looks so unique - you somehow always manage to find pieces that look different, like the ginger coloured flares and the brocade boots. I've seen a lot of brocade boots around but none like yours.

    1. Yes, I've seen so many pairs of brocade boots in the shops this season too Gail. Mine came from ASOS quite a while ago, last winter in fact and have been a great addition to my wardrobe.

  12. I haven't done anything for Xmas yet but buy brocade boots. How's that for preparation. I love your outfit. The jacket and trousers balance each other out so well. Very flattering.

  14. I always love these booties when you wear them Anna! I have a similar colored wide-legged pants that I really enjoy though your pants have a different cut. Actually the cut of your pants are very flattering. I may have to be on the look out for something similar!

    1. I love to wear wide legged trousers as they give such a different silhouette to the standard fitted trousers and jeans that dominate my closet. And yes, the boots really come into their own at this time of year don't they?

  15. I love these cropped trousers! High-waisted ones like this work best for my shape and I love a wide leg with good swish-ability. The brocade jacket pairs beautifully with the pants, and those fab boots.
