The corset belt

I'm a big fan of belts, as I'm sure you know, but this corset belt has been loitering in my cupboard for over a year now waiting for the right opportunity to reveal itself. I bought it in Primark last summer and paid the princely sum of £3.50 for it. The back half is elastic making for a nice snug fit.

A belt like this has an almost straghtjacket effect, keeping me upright and very tucked in.

The dress and shoes (from TK Maxx) have both been featured on the blog previously and the shrug is new to me, from Monsoon.

Jumbo pearls from Debenhams and toning preloved rings complete the look today.

I'll be featuring the corset belt again in my next post. Now that it's been liberated there seems to be no stopping it!

    1. Thanks Laurie,

This is one of my favourite summer dresses and yes, I really like the belt with it too. Summer has at last come to the islands, hurrah!

  2. Corset belts (and stomachers) are awesome for making one keep one's posture in line, aren't they? I love this one, but I'm not 100% keen on it with this outfit. It reads very "steampunk" to me, or "Renn Faire" - and don't get me wrong, I love those looks - so it feels to me like it's fighting with the rest of this outfit, which is so summery. The belt is visually "heavy". Does that make sense?

I adore that acid green shrug! Lovely overall, Anna!

    1. It's great to have feedback, no matter what sort and yours is always welcome. I know what you mean by visually heavy, but I have to say that I like the contrast between that and the lightness of the rest of the outfit - sometimes we need a contrast to appreciate its opposite.

      Cheers!

  3. I love how you take risks. I would never have thought of putting that belt with that dress AND it works on you. Such a neat slim figure. Great rings to acccentuate the blue.

    1. Thanks Hilda. It's always good to deliver the unexpected especially with something as basic as a shift dress. If I can inspire someone to dare a little, step a tiny bit out of their comfort zone, then I'll have done well.

  4. No amount of corsetising is needed on you, you're so beautifully slim a toned, but it's a fun, sassy look all the same. Love the dress and shrug. Hugs, x.

  5. You look lovely in the dress. Great length. Very Gail like in this outfit. I shop in Primark too. Often some real gems in there.

    1. I find shift dresses can be a bit staid, so this addition of the belt livens the look up a tad, don't you agree Anna? And yes, I could see Gail in this quite easily!

      Cheers!

  6. What a lovely look on you!

With me my tummy fat would sit in a roll above and below the belt, ha ha! However, I have worn something similar in the past to keep some jeggings up but the belt was out of sight under something else.

Hope you have a great weekend.

    1. I love the notion of this kind of belt used as part of an undercover operation! Sounds like a great idea.

Wishing you a good weekend too!

  7. This belt style has a "sexy wench" vibe that I just love! It brings this simple shift dress to a whole new level of cute. Does it help to remind you to stand straight and tall?

    1. Thanks Jude. The sexy meets staid equals just about okay to wear to work as the business woman - I'm so glad you appreciate that. And yes, the very width of the belt is enough keep you upright and avoids any desire to bend over, hahaha!

      Have a lovely weekend!

  9. I like the contrast and I think that the belt enhances your figure and give a twist to a classic shape, which it's fabulous!
    You totally rock!
