Steal her style - our July Style Not Age challenge

Hi there and welcome to this month's Style Not Age challenge. Set this month by Hilda, the theme is "Steal her style" and has brought about some interesting results.

I chose Suzi Grant, blogger, author and broadcaster as my inspiration for this month's challenge. I've only recently discovered Suzi on Instagram and was so sorry to have missed her when she visited the Isles of Scilly in May. Maybe we'll get the chance to meet up another time. Find her website Alternative Ageing here

Jacqui is no stranger to this lovely copycat game as she plays it once a month with her very own Style Steal. See this month's edition here (I can't believe I missed this one Jacqui!). Her outfit was taken from that wonderful movie Pretty Woman and doesn't she wear this well? Why not pop across to view her backstory here

And in a very sweet moment of snap we also have Hilda sporting her own Pretty Woman outfit. Great minds think alike ladies!

Don't these ladies look rather fabulous in their spotty dresses and hats? I only wish I'd got the memo as I too have one of these spotty frocks! Join Hilda on her blog Over The Hilda to read all about her offering.

Last in this great creative feature is Emma from Style Splash who is copying a look from Killing Eve. I have to confess to never having seen this series, but if you nip across to her blog there's a link to Villanelle for you to compare. I'll see you over there!

And so back to my copycat look of Suzi's. My paisley print top was a hand-me-down from Sasha some time ago and seemed like the perfect piece for this month's challenge. It was from H&M and is looking good considering how often I wear it. The pink chinos are from Boden earlier on this summer - see here. My Puma trainers were a TK Maxx find when I was in London. I love the fact that they have silk ribbons instead of ordinary laces. I'm partial to a stylish twist. The retro sunglasses are a real signature piece for Suzi - mine are from Topshop.

Many thanks to Polly for this cute hairband which helped to finish off my Steal her style look.

And on a finishing note, I'd like to pass on a bit of advice I was given this weekend - that being not to leave your electrical items running when you go out. We had a small fire in our kitchen this weekend when our dishwasher motor burnt out, eventually bursting into flames. Our local fire brigade tackled the fire and all we were left with was a gaping hole where the appliance used to be, plus some charred worktop and smoke damage around the area involved. Sooty residue and a lingering smell of smoke will take a bit longer to get rid of. Had my husband not popped home when he did the fire wouldn't have been discovered so quickly and things could have been quite different. Washing machines, dishwashers and tumble driers all ought to be used when someone is at home - please pass this on.

  1. Another wonderful challenge completed Anna, well done for carrying on despite that awful ordeal of the fire! Your copy is brilliant, I've stopped by to see Suzy's blog too - well done my friend. Jacqui Mummabstylish

    1. The fire did shake me up a bit, but I told Steve we simply had to get this done. I'm so pleased to have found Suzi's blog - I love her quirky style!

    1. Thanks Hilda. The fire gave me a terrible shock, I'll be honest. I've been away on the mainland for a few days which has helped to put it into perspective, and will have to get stuck into the cleaning now.

  3. What a sizzling outfit, Anna! Love the oranges and pinks together. What a scary experience that fire must have been. Glad it was caught on time. And I'll think twice about leaving our washing machine running in future! xxx

    1. Glad you like the ensemble - I really like these colours together too.
We were very lucky to get away with the limited damage we had. And I'm changing my habits too since this event. Better to be safe than sorry x

  4. How scary about your dishwasher, Anna! I'm very careful about not leaving things running when we're out. I even unplug the toaster and the kettle!

Love this wonderful mix of orange and pink - what a fun combination! I think you did very well in capturing your inspiration's look! Hoping your week ahead is sunny, but not too hot!

    1. It was a terrible shock, that's for sure. My friend told me she usually puts her dishwasher on at bedtime, but she's changing that habit now.
Glad you like this month's style challenge. It was great fun!

  5. What a marvelous idea and what an enthusiastic bunch of participating bloggers. Oh what fun!

Sasha seems to be following in her stylish mother's footsteps if this gorgeous blouse is an indication of her style preferences. She's unafraid of bright happy colors at the very least! Perhaps someday you'll feature her?? I know you've included her before but it's been awhile

    1. Another month and another style challenge in the bag, hurrah!
I'll pass your comments on to Sasha. She's living in her own flat now and I rarely see her - hard to believe on such a tiny island, but it's true!

  6. Orange and pink against that lovely blue door, yum! All great ideas. I went over to Suzi's blog and have 'stolen'(sent for) the sandals she walked 18,000 steps in one day during her trip down under!
What a cautionary dishwasher tale! Thank goodness Steve arrived back when he did. I always switch my laptop off too when I go out. Tessa xx

    1. Steve and I did that photo shoot the morning after the fire, in a kind of "business as usual" way and only went as far as the shed to find the blue door. Glad you like it.
I hate to run through the what-if's of that day. We're still working at getting things straight and the smoke smell lingers on, but honestly we were so blooming lucky!

  7. I love this colourful outfit Anna! I've been a big fan of Suzi's for several years and have been lucky enough to meet her a couple of times, she's a star! Thank goodness your husband popped back and discovered the fire! I have to confess that I do leave my dishwasher on when I go out - although I won't anymore! We had a lucky escape with a burnt out electrical socket recently - we had no idea until it stopped working and my husband took it apart. Thankfully it isn't one we use very often as it's in an awkward place.
