A bit of pattern play

Hurrah, it's March!

I nearly shouted Hurrah, it's spring, but I've been reading up on when spring officially starts and the dates are varied. According to the meteorological calendar it's the 1st of March; tradition states it's the 21st of March; astronomers state the 20th, but this year we welcome the first day of spring on Thursday the 19th of March. Anyway, I'm feeling rather perky thanks to the lull in the storms and this very welcome dose of sunshine.

My happy state is not only down to the weather, but this jolly outfit that is a playful mix of checks and spots with a brilliant burst of pink which always cheers me up. A woolly winter coat is still an essential at the moment and this vintage favourite is snug with its buttons all the way up to the neck and longer length - perfect for keeping the drafts out! I bought it in Palermo four years ago when we were on a cruise (see here). This is where the blog acts as a great reminder of these happy times; I'm so pleased to have this visual diary of my life to look back on.

The rest of the outfit is this - pink fluffy sweater and cosmic creepers are both from Enjoy Clothing in Truro; the spotty denim jeans are pre-loved; the brand is Cosmic jeans and my scarf was a charity shop find many moons ago.

Brothel creepers may not be the height of fashion, but these cosmic dazzlers stole my heart when I first clapped eyes on them and I love them still. I don't wear them if it's threatening to rain as they're only fabric, but they're holding up well.

My rings are quite contrasting in style today, but both chosen for their colours. The perspex one was a gift and the other from an airport concession.

I'm so excited to share my new sunglasses with you. A friend of my is a designer of eyewear and gave me a bundle of sunglasses when we met up recently. They're by Radley and you can see the brand new range here.  I'm delighted that I've got a whole new sunglasses collection to wear this year, so do keep your eyes peeled for the next pair...

Thanks for dropping by again today .
Hope you have a lovely week ahead of you!

  1. I love this explosion of pink and polka dots, Anna! You're surely a Pink Bang (with a nod to the pattern on the creepers)? Your coat reminds me very much of my Fuzzy Flamingo - so snuggly and warm.

Glad to hear that your weather has calmed. I adhere to the 3rd week of March as being spring - I usually do my closet swapover after March due to that.

    1. I like the idea of being a pink bang, although I'm not quite sure what that means. I feel that apologies are due from me for not visiting you of late - life has taken a rather hectic turn aka work is overwhelming me, but give it a week and things will all get better. See you soon xxx

  2. Oh, what a delightful outfit, Anna! The coat, of course, is absolutely fabulous, but I'm also loving those polka dot jeans, and those brothel creepers. Your rainbow ring is very much my thing as well. We've finally had a day of sunshine today, typically on a work day, of course, but still. I've always taken March 21 as the first day of Spring, but to be honest it cannot come soon enough this year! xxx

    1. I think we're all so ready for the onset of spring, but the sun has been making regular appearances here which is very promising - that plus more and more delightful daffodils are dancing on the verges now.

I could imagine you in this pink coat Ann. We both love these jolly colours don't we? xxx

  3. "brothel creepers"????? I've never heard that expression before! Hilarious! Also l agree with you about the sun shining lifting a mood. It just feels lighter and happier with sunshine, especially this time of year. Though I am envious of all your green plants. I officially said winter ended last Friday because we now have at least a week of warmer temperatures and all the snow has melted and I can hear the birds coming back now, especially the loud Canadian Geese and the Sandhill Cranes. Enjoy your sun!

    1. It's so funny how we have different names for things. Pink bang is a mystery to me, but clearly in Canada it's a recognised expression. Likewise brother creepers were a big trend many many moons ago and the name has stuck.

I'm so pleased to hear that the snow has melted. We missed having any snow at all this year, but I'm not sorry! xxx

  5. Another funky outfit that I love. It reminds of a pair of trousers I had in 1988 - navy with white circles (not spots). Such fun - I wore those to death - treated them as a neutral :) Lise

    1. I have no doubts that you could do pattern play too Laurie, but you have to want to. You have your very own classic style that really doesn't need anyone to meddle with it xxx

  7. As you know I love bright colours as much as you do. I am not much of a pattern mixer as I am much more conservative than you are.
What does your husband say about your flamboyant way of dressing? Does he like it?
As for the nice shoes... I laughed when I saw that you call them brothel creepers. We have the same (translated) expression in Dutch. Never knew it would be the same in other languages.

    1. My husband is wonderfully accepting of who I am and sees every day's outfit as one worthy of a humorous comment. He gently teases me and certainly wouldn't want me to water myself down for anyone - not even him.

I love that brothel creepers are universal. Aren't they fun!

  12. You are an explosion of pink, Anna! Love that pinky pink winter coat. And your shoes!! Where did you buy them? They are brilliant. I once saw a pair of shoes like these at the mall. They didn't fit me, so I gave them to my sister!

    1. Hello and thank you for your lovely comment. I bought the shoes in Enjoy Clothing in Truro, Cornwall. They were the only pair and just happened to fit, so I took that as a sign!
