Dressing up Friday

Hurrah for Friday!

Thanks for joining me for my first #dressingupfriday. Recently I've noticed some other bloggers and Instagram friends making an effort to dress up on Fridays and thought it might be fun to join in. As my husband has said before, "My wife will get dressed up for the opening of an envelope". Indeed that's about as much excitement that's happening in my life (and probably yours) at the moment.

We took these shots last weekend, but the weather was cloudy with milky skies and ever changing light. No two photos had the same tones, but we just had to make the most it. The most important thing was surely the punchy colours and over-the-top frills that lifted this outfit out of the ordinary. The chiffon blouse is vintage, the skirt second-hand (it was a ridiculous bargain at £3) and the bubblegum pink sock boots are from H&M. I've worn all of this before, but not together which makes me wonder why as I love this colourful combination. The glittery waistband of the skirt could be mistaken for a belt but is actually just a stretch waistband.

I suppose I could have called this post "All dressed up with no-where to go" which I'm sure would resonate with many of you at the moment. I fancy that we're all tiring of lolling around in our joggers/PJ's as we sink further down that rabbit's hole known at Netflix. I've succumbed to that trance-like existence some days, but am fighting back now. Indeed, my next door neighbour Kate wowed us all last night when she turned up in her posh pink frock and zingy orange shoes to take part in the weekly clapping for carers. I clearly missed a trick there and also didn't have my camera to hand to capture her deliciousness!

I'm pleased to report that today's to-do list is almost done: daily exercise, hand washing - all the way to the bottom of the laundry bin, hand sewing repairs x 3, hanging a photo montage with dodgy fixings, blog work and finally some hoovering meaning I'll be finished in time for dinner, hurrah!

My jewellery is a mixture of pre-loved and pieces that were gifts from friends.

My son bought these boots for my Christmas a couple of years ago and I've worn them regularly ever since. The trend for sock boots may well be over, but that makes no difference to me.

The gold coloured chain was another present as were the Radley sunglasses.

I'll be back on Monday with the monthly feature from our Style Not Age Collective so do please pop back to see what we've all been up to. In the meantime, I'll leave you with a lovely shot taken from just outside my house the other evening. Another moment when I stopped to count my blessings.

Stay safe everyone and take care!

Anna x

    1. Hi Eva, my boots are from H&M, but that was a couple of years ago. I think the trend has passed now, but that won't stop me wearing them. Glad you approve of the gingham outfit too - the blouse is rather fab, eh? x

    1. I must admit I didn't fully descend into the PJs uniform myself, but I've worn joggers more now than ever of late. I do love the excuse to dress up once a week like this though x

  3. Ooh, I love the pink "bookends" on this outfit - what a great look! I've also found myself wondering, "Why haven't I worn these together before?" with some of my clothes, and then realizing it's because I haven't been focusing on my new-to-me recent shopping finds, and instead I'm really digging into my wardrobe and remixing things more.

I've really been working at dressing up, and even putting on make-up daily. Did you know it actually releases dopamine when we practice self-care with our appearances? Science!

Wishing you a calm and peaceful weekend, Anna! You look amazing in your pink, ruffles and swooshtastic skirt!

    1. It's been good to just have the wardrobe as the resource rather than the latest purchases to inform my outfits. I've still got some new things stashed away and will bring those out when I need a lift. And talking of a lift, that makes sense mood-wise about the dressing up dopamine. Between that and our daily exercise, we're well armed to keep our spirits up eh?

    1. I'm so pleased that I got these boots when I did as they have become essentials in my wardrobe. I'm sorry that you've missed your vacation now - will you come to the UK later in the year perhaps?

  5. Shopping our wardrobes certainly makes us look at things anew, and trying out new combinations, finding obvious ones we didn't try before in the process. Your outfit is all kinds of delicious, from the bright pink of your frilly blouse and boots to that wonderful Paisley print skirt. Loving the rings too! I tend to dress up and wear make-up on a daily basis, even if I've got nowhere to go. Dressing up is my go-to feel good thing, for which I don't even need to open envelopes ;-)) xxx

  6. I love your outfit Anna; the swishy skirt, super bright blouse and sock boots look great together.
I think that it’s so important to have a ‘special’ day in the week when you can dress for dinner and feel different to the other days that all seem to merge together right now. You look lovely.

I’d never had sock boots before; but did manage, quite recently to buy a red, H and M pair for a bargain price from eBay; used, but in lovely condition and a great addition to my wardrobe. Dare I say it ..... that you now have me looking for them in pink! I adore these boots!
I wonder what you will inspire us with next - I guess that ‘dress up Friday’ may be around for us fashionistas for a long time yet!
Keep safe, stay well and keep posting :) X Phyl.

    1. Hi Phyl. I had to smile when you said about buying the red version of these as I have them too! See the last time I wore them here -http://www.annasislandstyle.com/2020/01/chiffon-and-tweed-on-breezy-day.html

Dressing up Friday may well be here as long as the lockdown...;)

    2. Thank you Anna... what a fabulous dress and jacket combination.
I haven’t worn anything quite so adventurous with my red, sock boots, but again you inspire me to look at the possibilities. I have a Joe Browns hacking jacket...now, let me think about a floaty, red dress...
Who knows what Autumn and Winter might throw up for me.
Hopefully the Charity Shops will re-open soon. X Phyl.

  8. I am so glad you dress up on Fridays. I try and do it every day, but high heels and skirts maybe once or twice a week.
You know I love this outfit. My colours totally.
I had to laugh when I read your husband's remark:"My wife will get dressed up for the opening of an envelope". My husband could have said the same haha.

    1. These past weeks of being at home have had me doing all sorts of spring cleaning and gardening chores meaning not so much opportunity to get dress up, so this new Friday feature is the perfect push for me to make an effort. I could easily see you wearing this ensemble too, Greetje x
