Zara's "It" dress of 2019

Hello again!

Hi there, and thanks for joining me. It's been a glorious few days of weather here on the Isles of Scilly and this was my outfit of the day yesterday for another scorching day. As the mercury rose I did have to abandon the belt and change the boots for sandals as it became uncomfortably hot later in the afternoon. Thank goodness for living only 100 metres away from work!

This Zara dress was the It dress of last year, but I was oblivious of that when I bought it. (Google Zara It dress 2019 and you'll see umpteen photos of it.) For me, it was merely a pleasant departure from my usual bright and colourful plumage. I wore it for one of my summer exhibitions during the summer (see here) and again dressed it with boots. I laughed when I went back to find those photos as I discovered how similar my styling was both of these times. I clearly like silver and boots with this frock!

The material is light and airy and even with a belt it's very comfortable and still wafts about in a floaty manner, perfect for a summer's day. Increasingly I seem to be drawn to black and white outfits and do wonder if it might be a sign of my tastes maturing at last? Will I ever stop dressing up like a clown in garish, over-the-top garb? Probably not, but I do enjoy a touch of black and white sometimes to help me feel elegant and stylish. I feel well put together, cool and in control when I'm sporting a monochrome look which is no bad thing when you want to give off the right vibes at work.

My New Look boots were bargain basement finds at only £5. Ridiculous, I know, but I couldn't resist buying my first pair of white boots as an adult at the age of 60. Since then, I've gone on to buy another white pair of Doc Marten type boots to make up for a lifetime of lack. After decades of avoiding white trousers and white boots, I'm suddenly making up for the hunger years. They may not be to everyone's taste, but I'm all about pleasing me!

The silver chain mail belt and rings are all second hand.

My sunnies are fab retro round framed ones, this time from Radley London. I've just checked out their website and to my dismay they now have a pair called Anna and they're gorgeous.  I say dismay, because of my self-imposed 12 month shopping ban. Booo-hooo!

I'll be back on Friday. Until then, take care!

Anna x

  1. Perhaps Steve could buy the sunnies for you for your birthday?? :) That would get around the ban!

I love this floaty dress - it's just so pretty! I was also concern when I started wearing black and white more over the past year, but now I've accepted that I just like trying new things, and black and white is part of that (it also bounces well off all the bright colours that I have). So don't worry, it's just a new thing. No need to go all taupe or beige on us, though, ha!

The hot weather has hit us too. I'm looking askance at my non-sandals!

    1. Isn't it funny that we colourists consider black and white a new discovery! You are right about that though. It's nice to have a new dimension to dressing and black and white does offer that to me. And no worries about that taupe and beige xxxx

  2. I must say this dress perplexed me when I read about the hoo ha over it last year. It's a lovely dress, you've styled it fabulously with the silver and white accessories. The belt is crucial... I recall seeing pictures of pouty faced models wearing it beltless and it lacked structure. It's funny how every one wants to have and wear the dress at the same time. Now that some time has elapsed I can see the loveliness of the dress, the dotty pattern, the monochrome palette and the floaty length. I guess I'm a contrarian at heart. If there's too much of a buzz about a film, book, fashion... I have to wait for it to calm down until I can engage with the piece.
I love the dress Anna. You've cut through the hype and I can finally see what it was all about! x

    1. I think I had the dress for about a month when my assistant told me that it was the "It" dress. I wasn't bothered at the time as I know my styling will always be a bit quirky, hence making it my own. I do understand completely the reticence about jumping on the bandwagon of a trend which is why charity shopping has such a great appeal for me. I'm pleased to have converted you though xxx

  3. I never wore so much black and white together as in the past few months. I'm starting to like it a lot. And I love all sorts of ankle boots with that heel. In all colors!

  4. Dress is lovely Anna. I didn't know that it was that it was the Zara ‘It’ dress of 2019. How did I miss this great maxi, comfortable to wear and, it won’t date!
I love dresses like this one; I’m thinking about looking on eBay; I really fancy one for myself and I’d definetely need to belt it.
I do have the white ankle boots!
    You look great! X

    1. Cheers Phyl. I had a great reaction on Instagram when I featured this first time around - it seems to hit the mark with so many! Next time I wear it I'll be looking to change the styling so that it looks just a little different again - a black belt and white trainers perhaps x

  5. I DO remember that dress! Funnily enough, one of my work colleagues was wearing the green version of this dress the other day and I said to her, "OOh, you have the IT dress of 2019!" and she had no idea! I really like the way you styled it- the necklace, belt and boots are seriously cool!
I actually really like wearing white, particularly all white- it is such a striking look!
P.S. If you get the chance Anna, pop over to my blog as I am hosting the Bloggers Art Gallery and several lovely bloggers are taking part!x

    1. I've yet to embrace an all white look - that really would challenge my comfort zone. Thanks for telling me about your new feature. I'll pop across! xxx

  6. Oh I can see why it would be the It dress of the year - it's so cool. You can also splash colour with it too. What a perfect beauty it is. Jacqui x
