Hello again! How has your Monday been? I started the week with this burst of sunshine aka my new linen frock by Francesca Bettini, a recent purchase from TK Maxx in Truro. I've replaced the self-tie belt for a beaded number from Tu at Sainsbury's some time ago which adds a dash of colour.
I've swapped over to my every day summer handbag, an Oral Kiely waxed canvas bag that's a great size and also a lovely combination of colours for this time of year. My friend Bo gave it to me as a present a couple of years ago, not long after I had visited the exhibition of her works in London.
Jewellery-wise I opted for these orange and lime green rings, all pre-loved. The bangles in yellow and multi colour plastic are second hand too as is the gold metal brooch.
The gold framed round sunglasses were from River Island many moons ago, but are wearing well. They add a quirky edge to any outfit or even a 60's vibe if the outfit calls for it.
The orange strappy sandals were from H&M a couple of years ago.
I'm so pleased with this linen frock that I'm considering trying to make another one myself. I've not ventured into the world of dressmaking, but I fancy that it's not so different from the sewing I did during lock-down. I've sent off for some linen samples and am now torn as to whether I can just wing it and copy the shape of the dress or if I ought to buy a pattern. If there are any experienced seamstresses out there, then please do chip in with your advice.
Wishing you a fabulous week!

An absolute stunner of a dress Anna. I love linen most in summer and the colour is gorgeous xx
ReplyDeleteHow kind of you Laurie. Linen is truly a summer fabric isn't it x
DeleteGet a pattern. Unless you are experienced. You will not regret it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your advice. I've ordered a pattern today and some linen samples too. I fancy it may be more of a challenge than I expect, so wish me luck!
DeleteI can't tell if the white/gold circle thing at the neckline is part of the dress or a brooch/necklace? I love this bright, vibrant colour on you, Anna, and how lovely that it's linen! The pops of colour are brilliant.
ReplyDeleteI agree with birdsandbunting - you should get a pattern.
The pattern is on it's way... The gold adornment is a brooch to counter a gaping neckline which I've since altered.
DeleteWhat a gorgeous sunshine dress. You look beautiful Anna x
ReplyDeleteSo very kind of you Phyllis, many thanks x
DeleteI rather like this with the belt, what a fabulous dress, your going to get plenty of wear from this. Have a super week.x
ReplyDeleteI'm delighted with this dress and can see it'll be a summer regular from now on Jacqui x
DeleteAnna you do rock a frock! I love Orla's designs, I went to that exhibition and have bought some things since, a bag, cushion covers and some material to make a sketchbook cover. If your dress has set in sleeves I wouldn't wing it but if they are all of a piece with the top I would copy the shapes onto paper to make a pattern or you could use an old sheet and tack it together to see if it fits. OK. Tessa x
ReplyDeleteThanks for your advice Tessa. I may try that out when I have a bit of time on my hands, but in the meantime I've bought a pattern. Either way, I'm sure it'll be more difficult than I expect!
DeleteI would say get a pattern! You don't want to waste the material if it goes wrong! By Hand London has some really nice patterns.
ReplyDeleteI love your sunshine-embued dress! Such a pretty, light number and it looks so delicate with those filigree sandals!xx
The votes are in and yes, I did buy a pattern. How on earth I think I'll have the time, I just don't know but once I've got both pattern and material I'll be giving it a go!
DeleteI like everything about this look! You look fabulous and I love that dress!
