We're having a heatwave!

Yes, the UK is having a heatwave which means that here on the Isles of Scilly, there are a whole lot of unprepared visitors who have swapped their lily white skin for a lobster coloured, shiny, UV blasted version of themselves. The lack of industry pumping out pollution over our skies allows the sunlight unfiltered access to us mortals below with painful results at times. Our local shop has run out of suncream in every factor but 50 - unfortunately it really ought to be 50 that everyone is applying here! My solution is to slap on cream after my shower every day and on a scorcher like today cover up with a cool maxi dress.

What is the huge shiny orb in the sky?

Incredible though it may seem, yes, Polly assures me it's actually the sun. That coy, pale disc often seen shyly peeping through the clouds has been shining like a good 'un for days!

Time for a celebratory twirl I think!

I charity shopped this colourful maxi dress last September when I had a huge shopping spree weekend with Sasha in Exeter. Its first outing was in Palermo when we were on our cruise in February see here. The frock garnered such a lot of compliments today, that I'll have to bring it out a bit more often now I know it's a winner.

The other winning piece is the wonderful handbag my friend Suzie brought me when she was visiting us last month all the way from New Zealand. She used to live here on the island for many, many happy years, but is now settled with the love of her life in New Zealand complete with dog, cat and homestead with veg garden and small flock of sheep which Reg shears himself. The handbag was made locally and features feathers, pieces of Paua shell and carved bone. I didn't realise I needed a summer handbag until she gave me this, but now I'm using it all the time. Thanks again Suzie!

The belt is a charity shop scoop from last year too. Shoes are very old, so old that I can't read the print inside to see what the brand is. Sunglasses are by Quay Australia, and my nail polish passion is Rita Ora for Rimmel in Tangerine Tent which matches these two thrifted rings beautifully. Watch is by Michael Kors and rose gold bangle is by Kate Spade.

  1. What a fun maxi dress!

We are also in the middle of a heatwave, which means yesterday it was 39 C but today with the humidex it will feel above 42 C. Some people like it when it's that hot. I'm not one of them.

    1. Suzanne I'm wilting at the very mention of those kind of temperatures. Poor you, I don't know how you cope. Lots of indoor chores to be done, perhaps?
      Have a lovely weekend x

  3. Wow, are you ever spectacular in yellow, Anna! You know I love this dress, and ooh, that belt (I see why you were drawn to my Fendi one!). So perfect. :) We're on the ocean here as well, and rarely get those really hot days that the rest of North America seems to experience. It's sunny today, but always windy!

    1. To be perfectly honest Sheila, I'd rather have a coastal breeze than be baking in the breathless city air. I think my photo shoots benefit from the challenges of the seaside winds as it adds a bit of liveliness to them. Glad you approve of the frock. Handmade and vintage has to be a winning combination and yes, the belt is a fine addition too. Have a brill weekend x

  4. The brilliant color of the print in this maxi dress is just screaming summer!!-THE HEAT IS ON!
You look beautiful abd fresh as you go for a twirl on your beach.
    A happy post
I also love you in the white pants and sheer gray duster. This is a beautiful outfit with a COOL vibe. Looks like the duster is embroidered. Your styling is my favorite of the 3 of you. I've always been a sucker for embroidery.

    1. So lovely to have your feedback again Marilee! The dress did the trick on such a searingly hot day, and kept me cool for the duration. And that duster looked great, even if I do say so myself. The girls weren't quite so keen, but that's the point of the #PPP - to challenge each other with something we wouldn't normally wear. Glad it got your full vote of approval x

  6. Anna, I have just written about what makes a sundress look frumpy...I am going to go back into my post and add a link to this, as an example of looking FABULOUS in a sundress.

You have basically covered all of the 10 points I mention in one look (great minds must definitely think alike!!)....If I had a video clip to add it would be a "big round of applause and whoop whoop"!
A great look and a beautiful attitude to boot.
    Gorgeous!!

    1. Ah, Samantha, so this ticks all the boxes. So glad that I've redeemed myself in your eyes after that "too stiff, too sheer, unforgiving, silly tunic" from our recent challenge! Hahaha x I must nip over to read your guidelines for the perfect sundress - you know how much I love your how-to articles. Thanks for the compliments. Have a fab weekend!
