What can you do?

The question refers to when you think you've got a great outfit to show and yet it photographs so badly. That's not down to a rubbish camera or a bad photographer, as you know that's certainly not the case. No, I think it's to do with the proportions of the separates that defy good imagery. Anyway, I'm going to pick the best shots of the bunch and hope they come across as good as it makes me feel.

Looks quite promising doesn't it? A bit of orange, a bit of pattern clashing, my favourite perspex rings, what's not to love? Well, the problem arises from the fact that the trousers are culottes, very wide ones at that, which when you take into account my height of just under 5ft5in, then it becomes a challenge to see this ensemble as quite the cool that I'm feeling.

So far so good? Ready for some more?

Still OK?

Oh, I don't know if I can face you.

Just a moment while I prepare myself.

Damn, Ian just zipped past for his moment of fame!

I'm not sure I can look you in the eye. I so love this outfit, but it breaks the rule. You know, the - If you're short you can't wear wide cropped trousers - rule. Oh dear, what can I do? What can I say to make you understand? It makes me feel so good, yet looks...?

If I were in the mood to completely mock this outfit I could even go so far as to say that the shoes may look like boats with these trousers being the sails flapping in the wind. Heck, I'm on my way to self destruct at this rate!

This was Polly's final shot of the day. Maybe I don't look quite as squat as in the others? OK, enough of this negativity! Here's my favourite outfit. I totally love it. Love the perfect fit of these high waisted culottes. Love how wide they are in the leg. Love that they're made of the most lightweight silk that flows around me like a caress when I walk. Love these funky, sharp sandals that echo the same colours as the trousers. Love the neon brightness of the shirt, in the most orangey way it could be. Love the collar clips. Love that it only cost me £3.29 in a charity shop. It really doesn't matter that I'm neither tall nor willowy. What matters is that I want to share this with you and say, Hey, you don't have to be perfect or wear perfect clothes, just love what you wear!

Culottes are by Jean Muir, London (charity shop), shirt from Motel Rocks, shoes are by Sixtyseven, tee shirt from Topshop and rings are charity shopped. My new nail polish is by Rimmel, called "Darling you are fabulous!" which is surely reason enough to buy it!

  2. I think you look great Anna but there is definitely an art to wearing loose, big trousers when you're short...I think the solution is to wear a fitted top with the loose bottom. No one is going to tell me I shouldn't be wearing loose, wide trousers but I personally think they look better, on me at any rate, if I wear a fitted top.

I'm in agreement with Suzanne - if you like it, wear it!!

    Have a great week

    1. Welcome back Veronica. Your positive comments and voice of support have been sorely missed by me. I have already worn these trousers to work exactly as you suggest, but that in itself created problems of a different sort. The back view of high waisted trousers are SO unflattering on me! Hence this half way house of a fitted top underneath and the floaty shirt as a topper. I love these culottes though and will certainly keep wearing them as long as I do x

  3. I know we talk about flattering so much of the time...but there is certainly the time and place for wearing fun items that maybe aren't quite as flattering!!
Besides, it'd be so boring if we wore the same silhouette all the time!!

    1. You're so right Jodie. I know exactly what to wear to compliment my hour glass figure, but I hate to be repetitive in my dressing. Yes, I yearn to be 6 inches taller and wear these same culottes, but as that's not going to happen, I'll just carry on regardless!

  6. first....5 feet 5 is not short!
My 23 year old daughter is 4 feet 11.
    That is short!
She wears wide culottes, and rocks them.
    So are you!
I honestly don't see the problem here....
I might have worn the shirt open (to show off your teeny waist), or half-tucked it....maybe....but that is all.
You figure is stunning and you look funky and carefree.
As for boats and sails...... give me a break!
    You look great.

    1. Thanks Samantha for the reality check. You have to remember I waft about here in all sorts of get-ups with only Polly brave enough to give me input. The boat and sails comment was my husband who does enjoy to poke fun at me in the best possible way. Thanks again for your feedback x

  12. I totally understand! I have a skirt that I really love and it looks good in person but when I see myself in the pictures I look squat and weird. I think it's b/c the picture are of me just standing and posing but when I wear it in real life I'm moving and it looks better then. And really we all know that if you feel good in it and feel confident people will only see that. Have a great week!

  13. Funny but somehow I just became aware if this posting.
I LOVE THIS POSTING!!!! That neon striped blouse makes me happy and the little collar clips are so novel and funky. The culottes are great and that print almost reads like a hounds tooth from afar!
Anyway, in summary: I like that you're wearing your favorites and that even though your faboo figure isn't the star "this time", your personality is!! Yeah!!!!
