Suede, leather and sunglasses

I'm making the most of these last sunny days before grey skies become the norm. We've been lucky over the past couple of weeks with golden mornings accompanied by a cool easterly wind making our photo shoots look more balmy than they actually are. Lately I've been swanning about in this cute little ruffle top which I just happened to come across in the big clothes changeover recently. It's not actually mine, which I suppose might mean it belongs to my darling daughter who may just have left it behind when she moved out. I'm quickly having a flirt with it before she rumbles me (sorry Sash) and requests its return.

I've paired the top with these vintage suede flares that I bought in Etam many, many moons ago (last seen here). They were in the sale and cost me £25 at the time which was a huge amount of money. And as if that wasn't madness enough, they didn't even fit me! I fell in love with them and bought them as the proverbial dieters carrot. One day I'll be able to wear these, I promised myself as I handed over my hard-earned notes. Some 30 years later and here they are, fitting perfectly and thanks to the durability of the skin they've not aged a bit (wish the same could be said of me).

The other item worth a mention has to be this nude leather jacket. I bought it in February while in London see here and am so pleased to have the opportunity to wear it again now that the temperatures have dropped. I rarely need a jacket here in the summertime as work and home are litterly a few hundred paces apart, so it's quite exciting to have a root through the jacket section of my wardrobe and choose an extra layer to finish off an outfit.

Polly leaves the island at the start of November and I wonder if I might manage to recreate some of the light hearted moments she and I have shared? I'm thinking that I might set up my tripod in this same spot and switch on the camera's timer to see if I can dash about changing poses without her prompts and intermittent barking "shu'up!" that brings on my laughter. We're busy trying to fill my draft box with lots of outfits before she goes. (Sob, sniff, sob).

Outfit details - trousers: Etam, boots: River Island, jacket: DSquared, top: unknown. necklace: charity shop, watch: Michael Kors, rose gold bangle: Kate Spade New York, rings: old, sunglasses: Tu clothing at Sainsbury's.

  1. Oh that jacket is so gorgeous - I've got a serious case of jacket envy!

The trousers fit you beautifully and it's worth waiting for 30 years for something to fit so well and look so good. What lovely toned arms you have. My years of dedicated daily swimming as a teenager have left me with large and flabby arms which I rarely bare. I know I could do exercises to tone them but can't be bothered; I'll be using walking poles this winter for the first and they're said to tone the arms up so let's hope so!

    Have a lovely weekend

    1. This was the first time I've paired up this jacket and trousers and I'm pretty chuffed at how well they go together. I know it seems a blooming long time to hold onto a piece of clothing, but I just couldn't give up on my dream of wearing these. Thanks for saying that about my arms - I'm not really convinced myself, but have gotten over my need to have perfect anything nowadays!
Wishing you a lovely weekend too x

  3. Wow, I'm impressed that you've had those trousers for so long! I have two pairs of leather pants that I've had for less than 9 years each, and need to get them out again soon. I love this outfit, seriously, deeply and fully! It's so dark here now - boo, my stair pictures suck!

    1. I know is seems crazy, but every time I took them out and looked at them, I just knew I couldn't let them go. Hurrah that they've come into their own at last! I know what you mean about the dark and our photos - I'm wondering how this winter will pan out without my beloved Polly to guide me.

  5. I LOVE the fact that you've treasured your suede pants for 30 years!! They look great and I'm thinkin you look more fabulous than you'd hoped you would when you tucked them away for future reference.
The jacket is SO CUTE!!! There's a nod to military/trench coat in its style.
Please tell Polly how much we've enjoyed her photography. I'll bet the two of you have had so much fun doing pictures. Im sure you're going to miss her companionship and input a lot. I wish Polly well in her new job! You may have to consult with Melanie about her tri-pod and remote photo taking methods!!

    1. Yes, wasn't it worth waiting for to get these trousers out at long last, Judy? I'm so happy with both the jacket and the trousers - they work so well together. And you're also right about Polly - I'll miss her input so much as well as that fun start to the day. I managed to get through last winter by using my tripod and timer, but I really felt it lacked that relationship of someone heckling me from behind the camera to give the shots a spark. Will give it my best x

  8. How wonderful is that! They fit after 30 years AND they are in style again. Terrific. I think you have done some wonderful styling again. Everything looks so good together (don't give that top back.. just don't. Say you earned it with all the caring you did). The glasses are so cute. And the jacket, well you knew that was going to be a star piece when you bought it.

  9. I'm sitting here telling the other half how it pays to keep our treasured items of clothing Anna ! Some of my gems that I keep are just as old. I'm always getting nagged "do you really need this much stuff?" Yes I do ! Your daughter obviously has inherited your special flair for choosing clothes. What a bonus x

    1. Yes, it really does pay to hold on to these treasured items. Stuff on the other hand, I also have too much of! Sasha is currently shopping in London like an expert, calling me up to share tales of her trophies to make me drool. Ah, the joys of retail eh?
