Decisions, decisions.

As you may know, I'm currently on holiday at home and spending most of my time indoors on a huge decluttering mission. Scruffy jeans and trainers aren't really going to inspire you much, so I'm taking a break from time to time to get out into the sunshine and take some shots for the blog. I recently posted this on instagram -

I wrote "When you can't decide which pair to wear" and got a lovely response to help me decide. However, the fact was that I'd already worn the outfit and the shoes for my photo shoot.

The majority of votes were in favour of the navy and silver shoe, as seen in isolation it might look like the best match, but when you consider the total outfit I think the brown and yellow is carrying its weight too. I added a pair of gold lurex socks which tied in with the gold sweater as well as the yellow shoe. But really, it's just a bit of fun and suits my personality too. I like the quirky nature of the look. It's not either or, it's - this is a pair of shoes as I'm wearing them. Odd shoes for an oddball you might say.

And as if to prove that there's no such thing as an original idea, this evening as I was flicking through the March edition of Marie Claire, I came across this -

My progress report on the home front is that the filing cabinet has arrived and is now almost full of newly organised wallets and files; lots and lots of old paperwork has been shredded along the way. I've swapped my sea swimming for two weeks of pool swimming so that I can do an hours practise a day to improve my freestyle. Rolling, breathing, reaching, catching are being broken down into drills to drum each element into my fuzzy head. At the moment when I think about rolling, I forget good (bilateral) breathing. When I concentrate on the breath, then the rolling slips away from me. I have a reference book that takes me through all of the steps to create the perfect stroke, but I do wonder if I'll reach that stage within this timescale. I do hope that I'll be able to see a difference when I get back to the beach.

Outfit details - Leather bomber: Next, gold sweater: H&M, jeans: Zara, tee shirt: Dorothy Perkins, socks: ASOS, shoes: Boden (sold out, but these are fab), sunglasses: Quay Australia.

  1. I think I would prefer the yellow brogues but odd shoes are fine, too!

I love the jumper; since I bought a sparkly jacket for the Christmas do I'm quite fancying a sparkly jumper or cardigan as well!

    The pool practise sounds promising....

    Have a great weekend

    1. The majority vote went to the blue shoe, so it's good to have you choose the yellow Veronica.

I think you can never have too much sparkle in your wardrobe, so get out there and have a rummage I say!

Day three of pool swimming and am having moments where I can see what's meant to be happening, just not managing to achieve it yet.

Wishing you a great weekend too x

    1. Most feedback was in favour of the navy ones, but hey I really like how the outfit shaped up too Sheila.

Hope you have a great weekend x

  3. What a fun compromise! I think it would be fun to roll up your jean cuff and wear a bright yellow sock on the blue/silver side and a bright blue sock..you get it right?
I recently purchased a pair of brogues that are clear vinyl in the section nearest the ankle. The toe is dark gray and the midsection is white. I plan to wear them with all manner of colorful and crazy patterned socks! =-)
    I LOVE your jeans Anna.
Your swimming/breathing pattern seems to have an almost meditative rhythmic pattern to habituate to (?)
I think you will conquer this challenge you've set for yourself Anna! You've got a great history of doing just that!!

    1. That's a great idea Judy! I'll try that next time. Your brogues sound like something very unusual. What fun you'll have ringing the changes with lots of different colours.
The swimming is coming along OK. I've not cracked it yet, but it's progress, even though it's slow. I watched my Swim Smooth DVD this afternoon and gleaned lots of useful tips. I feel more confident about tomorrow's training session. Will keep you informed.

  4. I like the odd shoe look- they are the same type of shoe so it works well! Mmm, pool swimming sounds nice!! Well done on the sorting!

    1. That's exactly what I thought Kezzie. Same shoes in different colours surely still do constitute a pair?
The swimming and sorting are both coming along nicely and wait until you see the shot of the pool - it's fab!

      Have a lovely week x

  5. Good luck on your organizing and catching up! I really dislike doing that but feel such a relief when it's done. I'm sure you'll get the swimming techniques learned and mastered! I always tell my kids my brain is already full of knowledge so that's why it's hard to learn something new! xx

    1. The organising is shaping up well, and yes I'm just the same with putting it off, but oh how lovely it is to get it done!

The swimming is coming along, but is by no means perfect. However, I know practise, practise and more practise is all I can do now.

I know what you mean about having a full brain - we need to be able to add extra memory like you can with a computer eh?

Wishing you a great week x

  6. I desperately wanted to do that with doc martins when I was in highschool in the nineties - only problem, I couldn't really afford one pair, never mind two! I like both combinations, as well as the wearing of the odd pair!

    1. Thanks so much. I'm really pleased you appreciate this odd pairing.

I really like the idea of doc martins too. I may have to try that I do have two pairs of those!

      Thanks for dropping by x

    1. Thanks Laurie, I'm really happy to have such a lovely, positive response to something a bit oddball.

I'm making progress with the swimming and am looking forward to every session as I become more proficient with the stroke. I just hope that I can trasition back into the sea with it being as good.

      Have a super week x

  8. I like the shoes mixed! And the whole outfit is terrific and authentic "you". I feel about my singing the way you feel about your swimming, I think: practice, practice, and one day it will get easy. xox

    1. Dearest Patti, I'm delighted you approve of my quirky styling here. I know it may not be to everyone's liking, but sometimes I just want to step out of the ordinary.

Self expression is so important to our well being, and your singing, my swimming are all so good for us, I'm sure. The practicing is paying dividends now!

      Hope you're enjoying a lovely weekend x

  9. really love those shoes, both of them, and I also love that you decided to include both of them into your outfit, creating a mis-matched original new pair!
Lovely lurex pullover, it adds a magnificent touch of luxury and shine!

    1. You're right Jess, the chore is gratifying in the long run. I'm ploughing through all sorts of long-overdue tasks and it's such a relief to get to the other side of them.

I know you're a big fan of brogues too. Maybe you could mix yours up for a bit of fun?
