All-day boots

Yes, you may well be surprised to learn that these high heeled boots are indeed comfortable enough to wear all day long, but no-one was more surprised than me! As I was gathering the elements of this outfit together, I knew I needed to wear boots as the weather was forecast to go downhill over the course of the day, ending with rain by mid-afternoon. After a bit of a rummage I remembered a couple of boot boxes at the bottom of my wardrobe and lo, here were these brand new beauties! The colour is perfect for the ensemble, but I can't for the life of me remember when I bought them or why they've never been worn. I seem to recall they came from TK Maxx, but goodness knows how many years ago that was. The fact is, when I tried them on, I had a true Cinderella moment as they fit perfectly!

Just as I'm thrusting my hand into my pockets here comes a frisky little sea breeze!

Hold tight!

I'm not a huge fan of brown, but by adding the yellow silk blouse and bright orange belt, I think the overall look is more effective than if I'd gone all tonal with creams and beige for instance. I know women who look so elegant and understated in that kind of brown/beige palette.  Personally, I use the impact of pattern clashing, bold colours, frills and generally flamboyant dressing to distract the eye from my short comings. I know we're none of us a good judge of ourselves, but it's all about playing to our strengths and I think I know mine.

Today's outfit comprises - jacket by S'NOB, skirt (vintage) by Additions, blouse by Principles petite, boots by Ravel, belt and jewellery are charity shopped and handbag is by L Credi.

    1. For years and years I seemed to have brown as my default setting until one time I was telling my daughter about a new pair of trousers I'd just bought and she said, Let me guess - they're brown, and that was when I realised things had to change. Colours are where it's at with me now, meaning I try to steer clear of brown and its domination of my wardrobe.

Having said that, I can see its merits when mixed up as I've done here. Thanks for your vote of support!

  2. What a fabulous outfit! I love the fit-and-flare shape - that skirt and blouse have a real retro look. The boots are so awesome. I have a dream of finding forgotten things in my closet, but no such luck! (so far) Wonderful look, Anna!

    1. Thanks Sheila. The skirt is indeed vintage and the blouse is at least 10 years old, so maybe that comes in as vintage too?

This isn't the first time I've come across forgotten things in my closet. That's probably not a good thing though!

    1. I can see that I'm going to get a lot of wear out of these, Jodie. I just need to be careful not to hide them too well this summer so that I can find them again next winter! Glad you like it all x

  5. Oh my goodness. The DETAILS in these individual pieces are just delightful!
    LOVE:
The sweet collar and understated collar of the jacket.
The tiny ruffles with edging that adds more texture and picks up the plaid of the jacket perfectly.
The buttons down the front of the skirt color.
The vertical, decorative stitching, and double buckle on the boots and the way the burnished toe compliments the skirt.
The pieces of this outfit were meant to be put together just as you're wearing them!!!! It's kind of thrilling!! =-)

    1. Jude, you make the best cheerleader ever! Yes, this was all about the details, I'll agree. I'll always go for the fancy items before the plain and simple, every time. It's great that you appeciate all the little touches.

  6. I don't see any shortcomings but I see lots of strengths! You amaze me with your mixing of colors, patterns and textures. It never looks overdone but just interesting and compatible. You will be proud of me, I bought an orange purse yesterday to see if I could give a jolt to some of my outfits and I will be thinking of you! Julia xx

    1. The vintage skirt was a joyful find in Exeter a few years ago, but I don't seem to wear it much for some reason - the waist is rather small so that may have something to do with it! The blouse is rather ancient too and had become invisible as these old pieces sometimes do.

So pleased you approve Kezzie x

  10. I love your outfit, Anna. It remains a mystery of the universe why some heels that look intimidating are actually comfortable. There must be some math involved there... The colours you've chosen really add wonderful sproing to the whole thing. And I love that the skirt has such a nipped waist with belt loops. Yay. Frisky wind lifts are always a good thing too.

    1. The same can be said about some flats that ought to be comfy and yet have me in tears by lunchtime - yet another mystery of the universe.

All of the skirt details make it the prize vintage piece it is. I love it. And yes, the sea breeze always adds an element of the unexpected!

    1. I think my colours are autumn so all of these are good for my skin/hair tone. Sometimes I try to pull away from that palette, but inevitably I'll come back to them in some shape or form.
