Midweek muddle

Wednesday, May 17, 2017

Today's outfit was shot a while back when we were experiencing a brisk north wind, hence the snug fitting scarf. As long as I've got my neck covered I can cope with the chillest of winds. What about you - is it neck, wrists or ankles that need to be cosy?

The muddle I refer to is the state of mind rather than the outfit, so apologies if I'm brief. I ought to be splashing about in the sea currently, but thought I'd post this first before I go. A head cold has kept me out of the water for the past week which would normally have driven me to despair, however I've been taking part in a yoga retreat on the island so don't feel such a failure. I've been doing Iyengar yoga for about four years now in weekly classes led by Lucy Aldridge who is everyone's idea of the perfect yoga teacher - lean, lithe, supple, aka very bendy and most important of all, has a great sense of humour, often interjecting these cheesy jokes between the toughest of poses.

Exercise is what gives me my drive; the energy expended somehow being regenerated for me to use over the day ahead. I'm sure that's one of the reasons we all push ourselves to sweat and gasp and get fit. Yoga is less gasp, more stretch and is a wonderful blend of body, mind and spirit that is the best kind of escape I know of. The retreats always give my own practise a boost which compensates for the times when work takes precedence over class throughout the summer months. The holidays tend to get booked up very quickly as they offer a lovely blend of work and play. Classes last for 90minutes and take place at 7.30am and 5.30pm meaning you have the entire day free to go boating, walking, sightseeing or relaxing in the spa where you can swim or enjoy a massage amongst the many treatments on offer. The island works its magic no matter how you choose to spend your time.

Sorry but there's not any photos of me in class, but if you follow the link you'll see Lucy striking a few poses.

  3. Ooh, I need my neck covered when I'm cold. Hands too (my fingers turn white - Reynaud's Syndrome).

I love these warm oranges on you, Anna - they totally suit you.

I should probably do yoga, but I hate being in classes.

    1. My husband suffers with Reynaud's too - it's quite painful sometimes isn't it?

Orange is a great cheery colour for me that seems to work some kind of magic - it always makes me look much healthier than I really am!

Fitness is all about finding what suits you best and that crazy frisbee playing is surely keeping you fit.

  4. Feet! I hate my feet getting cold. Yoga is my prefered exercise. So good for the posture too. Something I need to get back into.
I hope your head cold soon disappears Anna xx

    1. I think that yoga is a great all round form of exercise don't you? And the more you do, the more you want to do - it's so rewarding.

Am much better, thanks. Swimming again and back into the routine. Such a joy!

  6. It's a really nice outfit, Anna, and I love how coordinated everything is by using orange as the tie in.

How lovely you're having a week of yoga and fun!

I'm like you - its my neck that has to be covered...

    1. I worry that this jacket may suffer overkill soon - it's a really versatile piece that seems to work with a lot of my separates. And yes, orange features heavily here, but I just love it!

Yoga weeek was bliss and I'm a bit sad it's all over. I love the intensive nature of sessions twice a day as I really make good progress. But hey, it was great fun.

  7. Hope you're getting back to normal Anna, I LOVE this jacket, it's beautiful. My hands are nearly always cold, well that is until now totally the opposite - bloody menopause!!! Jacqui

    1. Golly, poor you with the dreaded flushes of the menopause! I remember the inner furnace that would suddenly burn me up at the most inconvenient of times too. It's the extremes that are the challenge - sweats one moment and then chills the next. Hang on in there - it does pass!

    1. Thanks Kezzie. The scarf was a gift from my sister when she lived on Orkney and I think came from somewhere very posh. It's the perfect colourway for me.

Warm neck and cosy feet sounds like a great combination, but hats just make my head itch!

  9. lovely outfit, such a beautiful color combo!
I love those orange shades, your jacket has an amazing texture, and your accessorizing is fabulous! (I'm still loving your bag, and those cool boots!)
I'm a huge fan of scarves too. If my neck (and head) is covered and my feet are warm and comfy, I could cope with any weather!

I can say that if my neck and feet are warm I can also cope with any weather.

  10. Love the jacket Anna, it has a real look of Chanel about it. The orange bag is gorgeous too. For me, cold hands is the problem. I had to buy an emergency waterproof pair in the Lake District this week!

    1. There's a real classic look to this jacket, I agree. I'm not really a conventional type but this jacket seems to be a great compromise probably thanks to the colour. Cold hands are for stuffing into pockets - but sometimes even that doesn't work does it?

  11. I could swear that I commented on this post already Anna...
I really love this textural, tweedy, Chanel type jacket worn in this more casual and fun way. It is the boots that just sweep this outfit into genius territory. I'm in love with them combined with the jacket. It's artistry!

    1. I think there's maybe been a technical glitch last week Jude as you're not the only one to lose a comment - sorry!

I bought the jacket for all those reasons you mention and am finding it very versatile which is a real bonus. Ah, the boots, the boots, well what can I say, apart from "I truly love them too!"

  12. I really like this outfit, Anna! The jacket, the scarf, the bag - all wonderful!

I hope your cold is all better by now. And I'm glad that you got to practice yoga. I haven't been going to yoga or barre classes lately, and I'm really feeling it in body and mind...

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend, Anna!

    1. Thanks for all of your lovely compliments Andrea.

Exercise is vital for me to keep mind and body running well and if I can't fit it in then everything seems to start to decline. I need the physical to enhance the mental which is probably what science tells us too. Good luck with trying to get your life back on track.

Wishing you a lovely week x
