Black trouser challenge 8

Yes, I know it's just a couple of days ago that I covered no 7 in this challenge, but my week is all a bit upside down. On the 20th it's time for Ping Pong Piece again and is also the day I take myself off to the mainland for a few days. I'll schedule a post in for my regular slot on Sunday so by the end of the week I'll have posted three times which will be grand.

Week 8 brings the cost-per-wear down to £5 for these frilled fancy pants by River Island and that's surely a bargain in anyone's book! My blogging friend Sheila asked if I'm not getting sick of these week-in, week-out trousers and I can honestly say, No not yet. As a latecomer to this black trouser party I'm still pretty evangelical with regards to the flexibility that black offers. All the years of shunning this most sober of colours is suddenly like I've opened the floodgates and all of the options are revealing themselves to me.

Today's offering of frills with frills along with beading and multicolour mules has me strutting my stuff with confidence. Orange is one of my favourite summer colours and I've been holding back this Coast top (a charity shop find, of course) until it was the perfect summer's day. Only it clouded over by the time I got to work! My early morning swim was in golden sunlight, the warmth playing on my back as I wandered across the sand to the sea. The temperature of the water has risen to about 14 degrees now which is a big improvement on the 8 degrees that I encountered way back in February. The forecast is for rain and lightening across the West Country today, ho hum!

Apart from my fancy pants, I'm wearing this Coast top, belt by Sainsbury's, mules by Carmen Poveda, pendant from New Zealand and other jewellery is charity shopped.

Thursday brings another edition of Ping Pong Piece with the piece to be styled being a beach cover-up. Do pop back to see how we fared and to meet my guest of the month...

    1. Thanks Jacqui. I think the pops of turquoise are what really make the outfit work. The question is beginning to hang in the air - "How much longer can she keep this going?" but these trousers are still firing up my imagination.

    1. I'm happy to admit that I'm still enjoying this challenge too Laurie. Our next challenge will pose only one problem - which of my many orange outfits to wear?

See you on that one soon x

  4. I love this look - you've neatly avoided "Hallowe'en" with the orange and black by adding in turquoise and tan. It really elevates this look. Another fabulous one, Anna!

    1. Hahaha, I love your honesty Sheila! How naive was I to not even consider that other connection by putting black and orange together. I work from my gut with these challenges, never from my brain!

  5. I'm enjoying all your 'black pants' posts (even if I couldn't comment in all of them), and I think this is a very inspiring challenge.
This orange ensemble is one of my favorites!, but orange is always so appealing to me!. Magnificent accessories, as usual!

    2. I thought the belt was the best part of the outfit too, Patti.

And oh how lovely to have water that gets to that kind of temperature - bliss!

  7. So many lovely details Anna! I love those pants on you... I have seen a similar pair on Zara and you are certainly tempting me! The orange blouse looks so good on you, very flattering and I love the textured bag to compliment. I mentioned to my hubby PPW- price per wear.. it really is a bargain.
    Have a great week!

  8. I like the pants because they're black but they're not "typical". I'm sure that's what attracted you to them as well.

It's the same thing I look for when I'm out thrifting for my shop. I don't want what everyone else has...I want something unusual. Today I was very lucky and picked up some amazing pieces.

I'm a bit like you with the whole black thing because normally it's not a colour I wear often. Lately I've been drawn to it. It may be the exposure from seeing so many other women wearing it or the idea that I can now wear some of my jewellery. I find that 99% of my outfits or clothes are so busy they don't require jewellery. The black is a blank slate. Ready for anything. I picked up another midi length full cotton dress in black today and now can't wait to play around with it.

    1. You're so right about all of this Suzanne. These are not just any old black trousers and that's, of course, what attracted me. And yes, the blank canvas of black is hugely creative for not just colour play as I'm doing, but the addition of jewellery really lets it take centre stage on on outfit too.

I promise to catch up with your latest news soon!

  9. As you know, I really, really like this outfit. Love how you added the turquois to the orange and black. I could wear this instantly. Well.. with some arm cover-up. Which would spoil things.. darned.

    1. I love it when we come to agree on an outfit - it makes me feel justified when I said all that time ago that we're quite similar in our tastes. So, you could just wear a long sleeved top with similar accessories and that would be your version.
