Ah, autumn!

Okay, it's nearly the end of September and I've come to terms with this whole autumn thing. We're experiencing a late burst of Indian summer here on the islands which has softened the blow somewhat, allowing me to waft about in lighter clothes for a little while longer.

I bought this pre-loved maxi dress earlier on this month with a view to providing some strong colours in my A/W wardrobe. I love all shades of yellow and know that the deeper the tone, the better it seems to suit my colouring. Once I started my clothes changeover I rediscovered these good ol' boys, aka my cowboy boots, from many years ago. The fringed jacket is the final and winning piece to pull the whole outfit together. Once the main structure of the look was in place the fun part was to find just the right belt, bag and accessories. Sometimes I forget to take time with these pieces returning to the same old favourites, but with the entire contents of my wardrobe upturned and on display, I found this bag that had been hidden for months on end. It seems that I may have to spend some time rotating handbags as well as belts so that they are a bit more accessible.

In previous years my clothes changeover took place in one swift move over the course of a weekend. This year, however, Sasha's input has informed a better system - that of trying on every single item of clothes before it's allowed into my A/W collection. Sasha truly curates her wardrobe in a way that I never have. Her clothes rail looks like a rack from a boutique where everything co-ordinates with the rest. In complete contrast, my wardrobe is bursting at the seams, overflowing into any spare nook and cranny that I can find. In due course I hope to have achieved a more manicured look. Photos to follow depending on my success!

Is this a good time of year for you? Do you enjoy the chance to wear some different looks as the seasons change? My blogging friend Julia says it's her favourite time of year - maybe it is for you too. Do let me know.

Outfit details - dress and jacket: pre-loved (no label), boots: Pikolinos, bag: Italian (no brand), jewellery: old/gifts, sunglasses: Quay Australia.

I'll leave you with some shots from the island during the fine weather. I'm still sea swimming in the bay that is Green Beach which affords a lovely sheltered cove for my morning dip. The other shots are taken from right outside my house where I'm lucky enough to be able to watch the sun set over New Grimsby bay. Enjoy!

  1. Ooh, I love that fringey topper! So fun! I am excited to get to my fall clothes, but like you, I've usually done it in one huge BAM swapover. Sasha's idea sounds good - I hope it helps you curate things.

Fabulous pics, m'dear. Looking at our own Indian summer here - another lovely day on this coast!

    1. I'm still working away at my changeover, so much so, that I've taken time off work to finish the job. It's been a great chance to go through everything and really question it's worthiness to my clothes collection.
I'm glad to hear that the weather is still holding out for you too - every day of sun is a real bonus!

  2. What wonderful pictures of your Island.

I love your yellow dress and bag; yellow does suit you very well. The jacket is lovely.

I won't be putting my boots on until the very last possible minute as I end up wearing boots for the best part six months of the year. I like Sasha's idea of trying everything on before putting away; it also helps having pics of the items you've worn to decide if they're staying or going!

    1. I understand that thing about putting your boots on and never taking them off for months on end. I've got a few new pairs lined up for this A/W and really can't wait to get going.
The changeover is turning into a massive declutter which is quite liberating. I could do with a whole month to go through the entire house now!

  3. I'm loving that groovy jacket! Especially when paired with the yellow, also a recent favourite of mine.

We are still in summer here so no change over of clothing for me yet but I do agree it is very important to try on each piece to see if you still love it. For me I love the opportunity to rediscover pieces again. It is a bit like Christmas.

I don't think I'd ever want a wardrobe where everything is meant to go together. Where is the fun in that? I need a challenge to inspire creativity.

    1. I think this is only the second time I've worn this jacket and yet I love it so much. Grey is going to be one of my new winter colours I think.
Isn't it grand that we've all managing to stave off the cold weather for a bit longer? I'm enjoying preparing all my clothes for the change which feels like it may be right around the corner...

  4. Oh my, I have to agree with Suzanne on the inspiration of a whole lot if color that may or may not coordinate depending on my mood, the season, and creativity level. Organization is appealing but maybe a different kind of organizing will suit your needs better Anna! I'll bet Sasha will be able to assist with that too.
You look so lovely in your happy golden yellow. I also love the color but it's not very flattering with my skin tone. I rebelled just this summer and decided to wear it anyway. I found a scarf in a color that IS flattering, worn near the face, is a great way to take the curse off the less flattering colored garment. Oh yes I'm such a rogue! :-)
Your island never ceases to entice. So beautiful!!

    1. Colour and a riot of it in my case is indeed the source of inspiration and my new wardrobe and cupboards are testament to this. In due course I hope to show you some photos of what's been going on, but I must admit it has been truly worth the extra time to try everything on. So many pieces had lost their charm and didn't "spark joy" this time around. I'm really excited about the new season ahead and that's quite a surprise to me!

  7. Anna, I'm so envious of your sunset shots! I have taken one in Venice - which was stunning, but to see yours every night must be awesome! Loving that jacket too, completes your entire look. I NEED to sort my wardrobe out, but there's nowhere to store what I don't need and I CANT throw anything away!!!!
Thanks for sharing I will try to sort my wardrobe in the near future. x Jacqui

    1. I'm still very envious of your Venice shots even though I've been there a couple of times myself, but yes, this daily view does take some beating.
I don't think I had much room for extra clothes either when both my children were at home - it was only when we finally had a spare room that my collection seemed to suddenly grow. Good luck with your sort out. It's not easy!

    1. I'm always surprised to hear that anyone loves autumn - for me I feel sad that summer has come to an end. I'm trying hard to see the pleasure in all the seasons though, through the joy of clothes.
Thanks for you lovely feedback again Monica and I hope you're getting settled back into your routine again after your time away.
