And so it begins...

Happy Wednesday to you my lovely readers!

When I say and so it begins, I mean the transitional period which leads me to say goodbye to my favourite season and oh hello, to autumn. Stepping out today in silver boots is a good way to get started. There has to be some joy in every outfit and these metallic beauties are most definitely it.

Yes, the heels are precariously high and the angle is steep, but heck they are outrageously wild and so much fun. In Sunday's post I talked about sometimes using a conservative outfit to fire me up to wear something so diametrically opposed the next day and this is it. I love the 60's feel to this ensemble which reminds me of Twiggy or Mary Quant - all I need is some white eyeshadow and pale pink lipstick!

The Peter Pan collar and white cuffs of the tunic are what attracted me to this heart adorned top when I saw it in a charity shop last month. The brand is Boohoo and it cost me £3.50; I've already worn it twice bringing the cost per wear down to very reasonable £1.75. I wear a little vest top under this chiffony fabric along with these eyelet crop trousers which were from Zara last year.

I do love this outfit and have to acknowledge that this has to be one of the upsides of autumn; the ankle boot does come into its own at this time of year. My sock boots stand at the ready and yes, it won't be long until you see my signature pair of red ones back in harness too.

The look needed minimal styling today with simply two (preloved) rings along with my favourite/ever-so-useful sunglasses by Quay.

Much as it saddens me to see the change in daylight as the brightness of the sun fades into a softer glow, I know I will adapt and come to terms with the inevitable autumn gloom. What I can say however, is that these next few months usually bring the most stunning sunsets to these islands. Huge cloud formations allow the sun to dip behind them and diffuse the beams of sunlight spectacularly. Of course, I'll feature some of those for you both here and on my Instagram feed in due course. And that pretty much wraps it up for another day. I do hope that you're enjoying some fine September weather and maybe even picking up some new items for the forthcoming/current season too.

Enjoy your week!

  1. Into every corner of gloom comes the most glorious sunset! I've been enjoying the morning fog here (when I'm not worrying about a seaplane), and seeing the tips of the leaves starting to turn.

Love this fun black and white outfit on you, Anna! We Women Who Love Colour also like to dabble in black and white! Wishing you a restful autumn, as those batteries recharge - and looking forward to seeing those wonderful red boots again (I'm excited to dig out my velvet boots!).

    1. Another week off grid for me as I've been filming the Christmas commercial - life in the fast lane eh? Anyway, it's time to catch up with the blog again and I'm delighted to find you first in my comments box. The red boots are live now btw.
Sometimes it's good to drop the colour and play with a black and white palette. Glad you're enjoying the move into autumn too my dear and I'll be over later!

  3. Before even reading your post, I thought Mary Quant! That tunic is just perfect, love the Peter Pan collar. I've been lamenting the gradual lack of daylight too, but still love living in a part of the world with proper seasons. They all have their charm, don't they? xxx

    1. Good old Mary Quant eh?

You're absolutely right about the seasons Ann. I think each one helps us appreciate the next. I'm ready to immerse myself in autumn now.

      Have a lovely week!

  4. This is SO fab 60's!

You look very happy in this outfit.

I am so jealous that you can manage to wear those boots more than 5 minutes. If my body could take it I'd have snapped them up too. The tallest heel I can manage now is 2.5". Beyond that and it is strictly a "bedroom" shoe. ; )

We also have great sunsets at this time of the year...very pink.

    1. Isn't it fun to play with the different fashion decades? Just one item can nail an era to perfection.

These boots are more office than street wear as long distances are just too much! Sometimes I do have the need to suffer for my art though.

Hope you're having a great weekend!

  7. I have to say I leave the boots until the absolute last if I can. I seem to wear boot for 7 months of the year at least!

I loved your outfit. Black and white is always so stylish and the silver boots give it a bit of pizzazz.

    Have a great weekend.

    1. I must admit Vronni I seem to be wearing my ankle boots almost all year round now - they just don't go out of fashion. I so admire these bloggers who only wear black and white as yes, it's so very stylish, but I would miss the joy of colours.

Wishing you a fab weekend too!

  8. Urgh, I DETEST Autumn! But I will cope! Luckily, it has been quite sunny today- so even though I was inside most of the day, it was still pleasant when I DID come outside! What a cool pairing of the dress and trousers!

  9. Mary Quant, YES!! I haven't thought about her sweet little 60's & 70's frocks in so very long! This charming heart dress captures her looks so well. These are the kinds of dresses that touch the little girl still deep inside of me.
I just love your unpredictability Anna. Sophisticated, funky, sweet or sassy and everything in between. Your posts always inspire me.
