Carpe diem

Yesterday was most definitely a seize the day kinda day, when all plans for housework, paying of bills and worst of all, some in depth troubleshooting of poorly laptop had to be set aside in favour of a bit of messing about in boats. After a quick gathering together of the basics for a picnic, Steve and I took off in the boat and headed out to find a beach to ourselves.

The sunshine and that end of summer feeling had brought the locals out, all wanting to enjoy the islands before autumn truly takes hold.

We moored up in the bay at Tean and crossed the narrow neck of land onto a sweep of beach which faced out into the Atlantic affording us the most idyllic view.

Round Island Lighthouse looking very majestic.

We drank in the view which was populated by the occasional boat sailing by.

Never one to miss a photo opportunity, I just happened to have the perfect late summer outfit ready for the moment. (Technical issues however abound currently with both camera and laptop, so apologies for the slightly fuzzy photos!)

Full marks to Steve for his creative eye with the setting for these shots. Low tide isn't always the prettiest to photograph, but the boy done good, don't you think?

Windswept hair and no lipstick has a real back to basics look for me in these shots. My beach dress was a sale purchase last summer from Sainsbury's, sunnies are my ol' faithfuls by Quay, necklace is by Charlie Dodge and bangle is preloved.

And finally, the news is that my modelling debut is on the news stands! The October issue of Woman and Home features adverts for the new "I AM" campaign for JD Williams. I'm thrilled to have made the cut and still can't quite believe it. The full story along with more shots are, of course, going to follow, but I just couldn't keep quiet for any longer.

Thanks go to my son Jamie for lending me his laptop otherwise there might have been a long blogging break while mine is being looked at by the IT doctor. I'm missing some of the technical help that my own laptop offers, so do bear with me if things are not looking quite the same as they usually do.

Wishing you a fab week!

    1. Thanks Suzanne, it's all very exciting.

When the weather turned fine Steve and I dropped everything and took off for the beach. Winter will be here soon enough and we want to store up as many memories of these happy days as possible.

      Have a great week!

  3. Fabulous outfit and pics (well done, Steve) of your day off, Anna! And how cool that you're in a MAGAZINE and featured in an ad campaign. Between you and Melanie, I'm seeing this groundswell of love for the "mature" woman in fashion and I love it! have a wonderful week, my dear!

    1. So kind of you Sheila, but I wonder if you ought to be in bed getting over that nasty flu?
Yes, it's amazing to be part of this campaign and also a relief now that the cat's out of the bag. I'm thrilled that the invisible amongst us are maybe not so much...

      Take care,

    1. My husband did comment as we were motoring home that we were all the richer for that day and how very right he is. These days are what we need to store away for reference to in the long, cold wintertime.
      Thanks for you support Jodie!

  6. What a stellar day! Blue skies, blue waters. Sigh.
But the big, bigger, biggest news - your campaign! Gaaaa!! AWESOME! I think one of the hardest things for me was keeping the secret. Such a huuuge relief to let it out. Whew. And worth the wait - you look amazing!! Congratulations!! Hats off to JDW for spotting you.

    1. Thanks Mel. I did struggle with keeping this a secret and that made it feel a bit unreal as there was nothing to show for all of the to-ing and fro-ing that I'd done over the summer months for casting, wardrobe and filming etc. But yay, here it's started now. Next up is the TV commercial like yours - what a surreal thing this is!

Here's to us and the next phase of our journey!

  7. Anna, I love your dress on your picnic, but more importantly how wonderful do you look in the magazine. Such a fun shot and boy do you represent us well. Congrats friend. I love that some magazines are finally recognising the value of our demographic. Go you and us.... xxx

    1. Cheers Hilda for your support. I love that older women are being recognised as having more value both as consumers and within the advertising world, so hurrah for that!

  8. BRAVO ANNA!!!! Congratulations!
First, your island escape day with Steve was beautifully captured in his photos. Your leafy blue sundress was absolutely perfect and added a romantic ambiance.
Your breakout into print and television media is an epic moment for you and for the UK women you represent. You haven't shared any aspirations you've had to broaden your audience and influence in this way so I hope you'll talk more about this new celebrity role in future posts. I'm so very happy for you Anna!

    1. Hi Jude and thanks for your support. It was a super away day for us which is a joy to share with you.
Melanie and I had spoken about our blogging roles previously and it's a lovely coincidence that she and I have both broken into the blogging big time as it were within the same week. Secrecy has been the name of the game as we were both bound over by contracts specifying such until the brands publish the campaigns. In due course I'll be sent images from them for your consumption and at that stage I'll give you all the inside news too.

      Have a lovely week!

  9. Well I almost missed this post, so I'm pleased that I back-tracked and read your fabulous news! Well done you for getting chosen, I'm sure you're going to come across superbly and I'm going to have to buy that magazine now!
I've been having a few Carole dunes this past week, a.k.a. beach days. My blog us now a day behind and the pics my photographer took on one beach day are going to e binned! Steve did an amazing job ... can I send TP over to shadow him on a few of your shops please?!
Again, congrats on your exciting opportunity with JD Williams.
    Hugs,x.

    1. Oh don't you just love spellchecker?! ignoring the minor spellchecker "corrections" here's the code for the indecipherables:
      Carole dunes = carpe diems
      Shops = shoots

    2. Thanks for your lovely words Mary. It's all very exciting news and is still a bit surreal for me at the moment. I can't wait to share stories of my travels off-island this summer for filming and hope to have some official shots for that soon.
In the meantime, I think we're both lucky to be able to have these beach days so easily and are right to do so - the autumn is gently creeping around us now, that's for sure.

      Wishing you a lovely weekend!

  10. How very exciting for you! You look lovely in your magazine photo and I can't wait to hear about it. I never buy women's magazine but often pick them up in charity shops and Woman and Home is one of my favourites.

How fab to have a choice of islands and beaches to visit and you are right - carpe diem all the time!

    1. I love to treat myself to a magazine from time to time and this one has recently come onto my radar (it's my age I suppose which has helped me see the relevance of it). The other thing you can do is seek out the JDW website as the news is featured there in full too.
Anyway, Steve and I hope to get a few more boat trips to these smaller islands over the next few weeks before the boat has to be brought out of the water and winterised. Carpe diem indeed!

      Have a super weekend!
