Palermo's finest winter coat

The cruising pics are over and we're back home again. You may however, recognise the coat that I bought in Palermo see here. I do think this is the finest coat I could have found in the whole of Sicily never mind just Palermo. Ooh how I love it! It feels like a proper grown up coat and all the better for being in this gorgeous mix of pink, red and black. It's taken my daughter and her wise words to convince me how important a good coat is, be it for winter or any season we might need one. She pointed out that it's what's on show all the time, the first thing people see and therefore massively important to get it right. I've always fallen into the way of thinking that we take our coat off to reveal the main event, but if Sasha is right then the coat is the main event. Well, hurrah that I've finally caught up and have a coat to be proud of.

Sunshine and a new winter coat, how very lovely!

Do you remember those spot the difference pictures from your childhood? Well we have some in today's blog. I won't reveal them until the end, but see how many you can spot.

Excuse me for looking so smug, but this coat is making me smile.

Oops Sasha, I forgot to ask if I could borrow this clutch again.

I've decided not to showcase the new Palermo trousers in the same post as they really need a short jacket to allow you to see the cut and shape of them best. Instead I've put this together with my new faux leather biker jeans. Faux leather is forever in fashion, and I've been worn down by that fact. Don't get me wrong, I love faux leather, just not on me. I've looked at leggings/jeggings and decided that to carry these off you need to have reed thin legs that go on and on. These biker jeans are much better for the short-legged (like me) as they have padded knees and zips to lend a bit of distraction. Also they are much thicker than leggings therefore have a bit more structure to them, helpful again for those with thighs that curve rather than go straight up and down.

I like the fluffy jumper to soften the biker jeans, but wish I'd worn a different necklace. That sudden rush to get out to catch the sun when it finally appeared this afternoon meant there wasn't much time to think through the accessories.

Silver does seem to be working as another neutral in my wardrobe. I could wear these brogues with so many outfits and they'd all look sensational thanks to them.

Check out these bees loving this bit of early spring sunshine. And for the sharp-eyed amongst you, the rings are different as is the colour of nail polish. A bit bizarre, I know, but these are two different photo shoots meshed together. Award yourself 3 points if you noticed them all x

  1. I agree with Sasha on the coat thing!---Not that the clothes underneath should be terrible, but your overcoat is important! The one you're wearing is fabulous---my mom just (I mean last week) made one that is very much like it (and I might get a vest out of the scraps!).
And can we admit that those biker jeans are the coolest ever? jodie

    1. My daughter is a clever young thing and I need to listen to her fashion advice more often. The fit of these jeans is what won me over - I know they're not for everyone, but they really feel made to measure.

  2. I adore that coat. It is true, especially in Canada that for much of the year the only thing that people can see is your coat.

    Those jeans are hot.

    1. Thanks Suzanne. You surely have some pretty fine coats yourself and clearly need them with your winter temperatures. These jeans, yes I'm loving 'em!

  3. The coat is indeed important! After many years of only having a single coat in winter, I've managed to acquire a variety (um, is twenty a lot?) for every occasion! Love this fabulous pink/red/black number - and look at YOU, rocking those faux leather! Woo, sizzlin'!

    1. Sheila you don't stike me as someone who might be lacking in the coat department! Only twenty, are you sure? And yes, faux leather, maybe a bit late in the day, but better late than never!

  4. I had never thought about my coats in this way but yes Sasha is right - it is the first thing you see, in winter, anyway,

Your coat is lovely - such happy, hot colours and the leather trousers and silver brogues go really well with it. Love Sasha's clutch, too...

    1. I remember that my mum had a posh coat for Saturdays when she met friends for high tea up the town and then another posh coat for church. They were both great coats and she updated them over the years. I seem to have missed a trick with the great coat, but am now putting it right. Not that she would have worn hers with leather jeans and silver brogues though! Am hoping that Sasha is bored of this clutch now x

  5. You are right about the 1st impression thing. I wear really scraggy coats most of the time because I walk everywhere and the thought of getting caught in the rain yet I have so many nice coats which I rarely wear!! Yours is beautiful!!! I cannot bear the thought of wearing leather trousers whether fake more real, they look SO good but it lools so uncomfortable to me!!!x

    1. It's funny how I've taken so long to cotton on to this. Although I do have lots of nice coats which I wear, I also have the default setting of my huge Puffa coat when it's cold (most of the winter then!)
Now I must jump in to defend these trousers. Imagine your favourite jeans, the ones that fit as if made to measure. Now line these jeans in a warm, cosy, soft lining. Close your eyes and bend a little to check that they feel good and fit well. Now open your eyes and to your surprise these black zipped, sexy jeans are what's happening. Really, I do like my comfort too Kezzie x

  6. I'm going a little CRAZY for this entire outfit Anna!!!
    Where do I start....
    That coat is a stunner!
I am loving the texture and the colours and the pattern. It is a real "Wow" piece.
BUT then you pull out those fabulous trousers!
    THEN the brogues!!!
    Not fair.
The clutch and those rings are the perfect finishing touches.
    Fabulous.

    1. How lovely of you to give such great feedback. I'm pretty pleased with this lot too, and these trousers were just a lucky find on the sale rail at H&M in London the day before we went on our cruise. You can wear those slim leather leggings with your long limbs, but I need the jeans to work with my shape. What will I do when these brogues fall to bits? And they surely will at the rate I'm wearing them!

  8. Well, as you know from my coat post, a coat can absolutely be a statement piece and wow yours really is knockout! I remember writing a comment on the original post about your purchases and a couple of your other holiday posts but they don't seem to have come up! I shall write them again, regardless.
This is a great look on you Anna. The coat is an absolutely gem.

  9. Of course you're wearing your winter coat...it's new, it's from your holiday, and it's gorgeous! I applaud you for this purchase. In 100% agreement with your daughter...don't just cover up with a coat...let it speak for you!

    Lovely to meet you Anna!

  10. I adored your coat in the photo when you bought it but I love it even more seeing it close up and on you. The colours! Your daughter is right of course. Heh. And your faux leather jeans look fantastic on you. The padded bits and zips add so much character and the comfort factor is a huge bonus. It will be much easier to wait for springtime now that you have this great coat.

  11. Anna, I don't think it'd be at all out of place for me to say that you look incredibly cool, so hipster!! Sasha has indeed a valid point for choosing a traffic-stopping coat, and yours certainly fits the bill. And I can't wax lyrically enough over those leather jeans. OH MY GOD. I think Billy Idol finally has some competition.

p/s loving the change of rings!!!

    1. Hi Karren, it's grand to think that I've converted you from being a lurker to a commenter/follower - I'm delighted! The trousers will appear again in many other guises I'm sure and of course I've already featured them in a previous post when we were on our recent cruise and stopped off in Barcelona. Check that one out and tell me what you think.

  15. Perfect coat. You can ship it to me any day. Those faux leather leggings are so nice on you. I laughed when I read "for those with thighs that curve rather than go straight up and down". I am the straight up and down woman and wouldn't wear such trousers for exactly that reason. I would look like a stick with too much loose faux leather haha.
Very well styled outfit. Nice and edgy. And colourful. Well done.
