Brocade, velvet, frills and gems

I promised I'd step it up as we go spiralling headlong into the bedlam that is otherwise known as Christmas, and my first proffering is this beautiful black velvet bomber. It was in the sale at Tesco, half price if I recall, and certainly under £20 that's for sure, so a bargain.

I said I live by the sea - this is the view from my house. I never tire of it. Well you wouldn't, would you?

The other new purchase from Tesco's is this rather fabulous pair of stretch glazed cotton skinny jeans. Burgundy is the colour of the moment with me and I seem to be gathering quite a cache of it this season. I have a pair of burgundy leather boots which I tried on with this outfit but they were just too matchy-matchy to do it any favours. Yes, it could be argued that all one colour would make for long streamlined legs, but today's look is more Prince Charming than anything else and that relied on the brocade boots as the finishing flourish. This frilled blouse seems to get wheeled out most weeks and that's because it's an absolute mainstay in my wardrobe. My bright fuchsia one would have been equally effective, but maybe too much - I didn't try it as the cream is pretty much my go-to solution to most style problems. Cream is more flattering to my skin tone than white, frills always add a touch of the feminine especially with trousers, and the shape is so versatile it works with almost everything.

I have sequined skirts, glittery tops and sparkly clothes at the ready (as promised) in the hope that the weather will be settled (and bright) enough to get some photos taken. I may enlist some help again on Saturday so that I can wow you with some party inspiration. Our annual island Christmas party is coming up soon, and I could use your opinion as I try out my options for that too.

Details - jacket and jeans: Tesco, boots: Asos, blouse: eBay, belt, H&M, rings: charity shop, necklace: borrowed from my daughter, sunglasses: Sainsbury's.

The sun sets behind the islands in the distance. I'm sure I've posted enough photos of it for this to be a pretty familiar view by now, but here's another just for the heck of it.

  1. Super sunset shot. Can see why the frilly blouse is a favourite, reminds me of the new romantics back in the 80's. The bomber was a brilliant bargain.

    1. Thanks so much Fiona. The blouse makes me feel very Adam Ant here I must admit. I'm going to have a ball wearing this bomber over the party season!

  2. Oh my gosh, what a fabulous outfit! And woot! You are smokin' in those pants - you have the best legs, Anna! I agree on not going matchy here with the boots. I am a total sucker for a ruffled blouse - I used to have an amazing satin cream one, but I ruined it in the wash (sigh). Have a great weekend!

    1. So kind Sheila, gush away, I'm lovin' it! The ruffled blouse seems to add that certain something to most outfits, I'm not sure what I'd do if I had a laundry disaster.
Hope you have a good week x

  3. I looked at this bomber only the other day! Black is looking great on you Anna, but it's very unforgiving on me! #gutted because I love it. I do however have those burgundy coated jeans lined up for a post! I thought they were a great buy! I do buy a lot of my stuff from F&F. Love the blouse too xx

    1. I'm not keen on black for the same reason Laurie, but I find black with texture ie velvet, lace, brocade is much more forgiving. I'll look out for that post with these trousers as I'm keen to see how you style them. Good old Tesco is really upping it's game don't you agree?
Wishing you a great week x

  4. This outfit is just delicious. There are so many lovely opulent textures and yet you've managed to create a very casual/dressy vibe. The color of the pant and the slight sheen are fabulous with the brocade of the boots. Then you're all enrobed in the rich dark velvet and cool whipped, creamy blouse. YUM!!!!!

    1. Hahaha, I'm delighted that you think this offering is almost edible Judy. Sometimes all of the elements come together perfectly and this was one of those times I'm pleased to say. I do hope you enjoy the forthcoming offerings this week which rely on all sorts of textures and sparkle in the run up to Christmas.
Thanks for you ongoing support and comments Judy.

  5. Beautiful views!

The bomber jacket was a real bargain and I love it with your new jeans - they looked like leather to me. I absolutely love your boots I must do a post soon wearing mine...

Looking forward to the Christmas sparkle.

    1. Thanks so much Vronni, the island was looking particularly lovely that day. The jeans are my latest favourite thing and I must admit they do look like leather, but without the price tag. I think the boots work so well with the trousers too, but will have to ration myself as to how often I wear them as I don't want to turn them into my uniform.
I'm looking forward to seeing your new boots too.
Wishing you a lovely week x

  6. I used to live on Vancouver Island right across from the ocean and I miss that view every single day.

This reminds me of Adam Ant. Must be the frills and those fabulous boots. BTW...I ordered some tapestry boots of my own. Still waiting for them to arrive.

    bisous

    1. The views here really nourish my soul, that's the truth. I can't imagine not seeing the sea every day and understand how you must miss that.
This was indeed me channelling my inner Adam Ant, and I'm delighted that you think it works.
And now you too have some fab new boots on the way - I can't wait to see them!

  9. I love your boots and pants. And I never tire of seeing your island. I really like the photo of you with your back to us looking in the distance. Even though we bloggers and these blogs are about clothing I find the ones I come back to time and time again are the ones where I start to know more about the blogger and her life. You are my relaxed weekend blog stop. Julia xx

    1. Golly and I missed this too from you Julia! So sorry.

I know what you mean about what pulls us back and yes, getting to know the blogger and her life seems to win over an endless stream of new outfits for me too.

Thanks for keeping coming back x
