Sparkle and shine

Today's offering is my attempt at wearing sequins in a more casual manner. However, I do realise that my default setting is probably a bit more blingy than most, in which case this maybe isn't as dressed down to you as it is to me. The fabulous mini skirt was a purchase in the January sales and this is the first time I've worn it.

Almost exactly 12 months ago I was just beginning to falter with the first signs of flu. I struggled on until Christmas day when I managed to cook the turkey with all the trimmings, missed the lunchtime drinks at the pub, then almost as soon as we ate I spiralled downhill. By 4pm I was wrapped up in a duvet on the sofa, in denial, still trying to get my money's worth out of the big day. Things continued to deteriorate from there on and days drifted past in a blur of sweat, aches and pains. Eventually I resurfaced, well into the New Year to be greeted by an avalanche of parcels - evidence of my efforts at self medicating and proof of my influenzia delerium shoppingitis (as coined here) - which covered every glittered/sequined anything that you could imagine. Much of it I returned immediately, and many sparkly pieces of finery were placed in a holding pattern until I could get a second opinion. Polly came to visit and this mini skirt was the final item to be discussed. Yes, you'll not be surprised to hear that I was concerned that it was WAY too short for me/someone my age. Thick tights and flat shoes were our joint decision as to how to make this more wearable, so what the heck has happened today? Glittery tights and these brand new boots with fabulous gold high heels are what's happened, because this Christmas I've got a whole lot of catching up to do!

Skirt: H&M, sweater: TK Maxx, boots: New Look, tights, H&M, thermal top: M&S, rings: charity shopped, sunglasses: Quay Australia.

  1. The boots and fluffy jumper still make this sequinned outfit slightly more casual... I love it. I'm going to scour H&M for a pair of those tights!
    Happy Christmas.

  2. Oh good Fiona! I'm pleased that you agree on this looking casual. These tights are fab - a bit thicker than normal tights which is quite flattering with the glitter.
Thanks for your comments and wishing you a very Happy Christmas too!

  3. WOW, I love this sparkly look, Anna! Lovely! I adore the skirt - although do you find that sequinned/beaded skirts snag at your tights? I've had to get rid of a few due to this, sadly. Good on you for your sheer sparkly tights and those magnificent honkin' heels!

    1. Sheila, thanks for the lovely comments. I've not had the snagging problem with this one yet, but my other sequin skirt has been a bit of a pain in that direction. These new boots are going to be my favourite Christmas pair I can see already.
Wishing you a wonderful Christmas x

  4. O love the mini skirt - especially the geometric pattern on it. Love the sparkly tights and boots and it looks fabulous!

Hope you have a very healthy Christmas this year. Flu is the most horrible illness - thank God I've only had it twice in my life.

    1. Thanks Veronica! I could see you in an outfit like this too. I think that short skirts can give an illusion of height, which is worth considering. I'm so glad you like the outfit - the boots have just arrived so I was keen to showcase them asap.
I've just heard that we have flu on the island. I think I may keep my head down for the next few days.
Wishing you a fabulous Christmas x

  5. This is absolutely fabulous!!!! Why the heck wasn't this in the mix of party choices???
I'd love to wear this outfit but at 65 I just don't think I could pull it off.
You really do look smashing in this look Anna! Enjoy a healthy holiday.

    1. Thanks so much Judy! The only reason it didn't make the mix is because I was waiting for these boots to arrive. Now I'll have to conjure up an excuse or two to get them out over the festive period.
I'm sure you know that age doesn't have to be a barrier to wearing what you want. If my legs are still up to it I'll be strutting my stuff in this fab little mini. And Judy, I've seen your legs and they definitely are up to a pair of sparkly tights! I love them and think anyone can wear them as they hide a multitude of sins!
I hope you have a fantistic holiday too x

    2. Ooo you are so nice to say that my legs are still passing muster =-) You know I forgot to mention that your shoulders in that sequined top from Anna were really featured beautifully! Someone else called them your "swimmers" shoulders and I'm sure that is part of their spectacularity (not even a word but it's working here!) Anyway, you should wear more racer back type tops.
I'm gonna look for some sparkly tights by golly!!
You hunker down for now and take some anti bacterial wipes with you when you go back to work.
      Happiest Holidays!!

    3. "Swimmers"shoulders was indeed a compliment that I relished Judy. I admire the physique of swimmers so much, that this is something I'll gladly take on board. And your tip to try racer back tops is something I've not thought of, but will be on the lookout for now, thank you.
Hunkering down is what I'm abou to do on this grey rainy afternoon. Hope you're have some downtime too.
      Happy New Year!

  6. I didn't even notice the length of the skirt. I think your legs look great and the tights give some coverage. If I were you I'd bring that skirt out all winter with a variety of tops just to add some sparkle to the dark winter. Good luck avoiding the flu this year. We're off to my sisters house (12 hour drive away!) on Monday for a week so I'm hoping we all stay healthy too. Take care! Julia xx

  7. hahaha, do I know this dilemma? Oh yes I do. And I can see why you wanted to keep the skirt as it is extraordinary. The tights and boots are a logical choice. I am featuring a blue sequined top this weekend with blue glitter tights. So I followed the same path as you did. But wayyyy more conservative haha. As you know I am.
