It's a while since I ran this feature, so here we go with a pair of tights sent to me by my blogging friend Veronica. She posted them on her blog, Vronni's Style Meanderings, here. Somehow I was lucky enough to inherit them as a fabulous colourful addition to my wardrobe. Veronica wants to know what my secret is as to how to stop them falling down as they did on her. The answer, as many of you will already know, is the magical powers of big pants, a la Bridget Jones of course! Ever since I was a teenager I've worn big pants over my tights to stop them falling down. I can never work out if it's because my tights are too big/too small or if it's cos my thighs aren't like drainpipes, which causes them to always fall down, but hey, the problem is easily solved with granny pants. I'm such a glamour puss!
It's wonderful to have another spring-like morning for our photo shoot. Polly and I are getting back into the swing of things with our usual heckling and back chatting being the soundtrack to the ritual. I plan to turn the tables a few more times this year and capture some of Polly's outfits for you to see too.
My ensemble today comprises of my corduroy jacket from H&M, a Boden skirt, Ralph Lauren fairisle top, H&M paisley blouse, shoes from M&S, sunglasses from Sainsbury's, rings from a charity shop and green fresh water pearls from Almost Perfect. Many thanks Veronica for the fabulous tights which really added that extra zing to the whole look.
I'm off to the mainland tomorrow on business for a week, but will be scheduling a couple of blog posts, the first being for Sunday. Hopefully I'll manage to find something to help me break my shopping ban while I'm away (I'm giddy with excitement at the very thought of it). Harrogate is a great stamping ground for me, so fingers crossed that the ladies of the town will have cleared out their wardrobes leaving all sorts of goodies for me to find in the local charity shops.
See you next time!

The shades of orange in your outfit really pop against the backdrop of blues and help to echo the orange stripe in the tights...which look great btw. Like Veronica, I've had gusset grief, some brands are worse than others though. Will look forward to seeing Polly's outfits.
ReplyDeleteOMG I just love that - gusset grief, hilarious!
DeleteThis riot of colour was such fun to wear. I love orange and to be able to weave it with all of these colours and patterns was great. The tights earned me more than a few compliments which were much deserved.

What a great array of colour! Iv'e never thought about the Bridget's over the tights. Great idea, with my short legs I'm always in need of some help.

I was pretty much wearing an entire rainbow that day, and how lovely it felt.
DeleteI kinda thought all women zoomed about with wonder-woman pants on under their skirts.

woww, such a magnificent color combo, love all those orange shades working together!, love every piece of clothing and love even more the whole ensemble!
ReplyDeleteAnd those tights give it a twist!
Gorgeous!!
(I also use some kind of 'granny pants', as I wear pettipants over my tights! But some tights are impossible to fix!)
besos
I'm not surprised to hear that you love this. Bright colours are what we have in common Monica and what joy they deliver!
DeleteIt's great to hit on a new topic for us all. Pettipants sound like a lovely name to solve the problem. I'm going to google them! OK, just done that and feel more informed.

I love funky tights and these are so cool!! The colours work great together, I love the way the tights echo the jumper / tank top. Looking forward to hearing about your "Haul from Harrogate."
ReplyDeleteGail
These tights snowballed a rather fab outfit, even though I do say so myself!
DeleteHarrogate here I come!

Ooh, good luck on your shopping trip! I love the tights, and have done the "big girl panties" thing before. Generally, I just buy my tights and nylons one size up (and I always buy control top) to make sure they stay up.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous colours! You remind me of spring flowers!
I'll maybe have to try buying one size bigger next time.
DeleteSpring flowers indeed - how lovely, thank you!
Anna x
Ooooooo....tights envy!! LOVE those.
ReplyDeleteIs there anything they don't look great with?? I doubt it!

Multi colour tights surely must be an essential for all fashionistas, don't you think Sam?

You look fabulous in the tights Anna and how lovely they look with your very zingy citrussy outfit. I love the H&M paisley blouse.
ReplyDeleteDoh..why I didn't I think of granny pants? I used to do this all the time years ago but I have to agree with Fiona - some tights just give gusset grief!!
If the same woman is at our 'Street Jumble' with these tights again this year, I'll buy lots and send you some more - and as for me I'll buy a larger size!
I've been to the Harrogate charity shops - very classy. Good luck and happy hunting...

I'm so pleased that you approve of my styling your wonderful tights. They really could go with so many colourways in my wardrobe, I know I'll be featuring them again. It's funny how we forget these things ie granny pants, but at least you can give them another whirl if you need to.
DeleteHappy hunting in Harrogate sounds perfect to me x
Anna
Wow! LOVE the tights! What fun! and how lovely that Veronica sent them to you as a gift.

Suzanne
Thanks Suzanne. This tights and shoes combination remind me of something similar I've seen on your blog. It was only when I reviewed the photos that I thought that. I just can't find it...

These colors are nothing short of SPECTACULAR!!!!!!!! Everything about this outfit makes a huge smile burst out all over my face!. When I can occasionally pull off an outfit like this; where every thing artistically, and uniquely coordinates, I just want to do a little happy dance. I can't decide which element is my favorite but those tights are definitely the cherry on top! LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your wonderful enthusiasm Jude! Yes, I may well have done a little happy dance in this multicoloured outfit...
DeleteThe tights started it off and also were the icing on the cake, I have to agree.

Cannot get over these tights! I'm in love with every happy color in this look.

Thanks Mary, this is praise indeed from a fashionista who excels in the chic and is a master of understatement.

Well who knew? I must have missed the pants over tights idea! Do you ladies here have them under as well? All the best super heroes wear their pants over their tights!!
ReplyDeleteI love the snazzy tights. I did a search and found them on ebay along with some other designs.
Personally, I'm a big fan of double pants - covers all bases you might like to say Tessa!
DeleteI'm currently in Harrogate and on the lookout for snazzy tights, snazzy anything in fact, and will be sharing the results this time next week...
Anna x
What a good idea about your trick to keeping those tights on! LOVE the colorful tights as I am a fan of color and textured ones, Those shoes are a fab rich green and love this patterned look. So fuN! Glad you are having some spring like weather Anna! :-)
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!

Patterned, coloured, the snazzier the better, I say Jess! It's such an easy way to liven up any outfit don't you think?
DeleteAnother thing we both have in common is our love of green in all shades. This jacket and shoes combination is a favourite of mine too, thank you!
Have a great weekend too x
Anna
Oh yes, those tights! The whole outfit sings together with those tights. Vronni clearly knew you would do them up right. I have indeed done the pants-on-top thing, or Spanx even. I despair of saggy tights.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are having luck at the thrift shops during this trip!! Can't wait to find out.
Me too Melanie, I've done the Spanx thing too - there's no way you can suffer droopy crotch with them!
DeleteThe thrifting is going fine... See you next week for the reveal!

You are definitely the best exponent of orange that I know! BRILLIANT look. The tights are amazing!! They look so good on.
ReplyDeleteHa, I also have been a knickers over tights wearer for many years BUT one time, I had SUCH a stubborn pair of tights (that honestly were too short for my legs, they are quite long AND the waist was a bit loose), that I remember being in Primark and I was wearing a knee-length skirt and I could feel my tights had fallen down but to my horror, I discovered that the tights and the knickers too (useless thigns!) were almost level with my knees!!!
Thanks for this brilliant story Kezzie! I've always kept my best, aka firmest, big pants for the tough support job. My most joyful find recently is of big pants with no VPL - these are my ultimate keeping-tights-up-pants!
