Ping-Pong Piece No 1

Monday, March 20, 2017

Hello and welcome to our monthly offering previously know as Ping-Pong Post and now rebranded as Ping-Pong Piece. After 12 months of posting our clothes around the world to be styled by myself and my two blogging friends Ann and Samantha, we decided to make life a bit easier. Now we're merely ping-ponging ideas back and forth, with each of us taking it in turns to suggest an item for us to wear in our own particular way. Easier too for us to invite a guest to take part. Ann has started the ball rolling with fishnet tights and has invited Mary to join in the fun...

Ann has chosen a large fishnet to add a bit of funk to her shredded jeans to brilliant effect. The mix of leather, denim, fishnet and those Stella McCartney patent beauties deliver all that's needed for today's hottest rock chick. See Ann's blog Kremb de la Kremb here and follow her on instagram here.

When Annie came up with the suggestion of fishnet tights I was rather pleased as I'd been saving these blue ones for the right outfit since I bought them before Christmas. Finding the right outfit was to be the challenge however. Amidst the flurry of reopening the gallery on Friday and doing my sewing homework for Saturday, I was pretty pushed to find time to do much trying on. I took the easy option and was led by the blue trim on these gorgeous courts. This green and blue vintage dress was a no brainer that only needed a cardi to finish the look. The final hurdle for Polly and I was the gale that was blowing down from the north across the front of the gallery where I pose. Crazy hair day? Yes!

Ping Pong Piece is no more a competition than Ping Pong Post was - it's all about showcasing an item and hopefully doing so differently enough to give you lots of inspiration. I think we've pretty much filled the remit then don't you? I'd love to hear that you think of our new variation on the theme.

  1. I love the Ping Pong Pieces (as now known.....). It's amazing to see such different looks on four women. The fishnets give a bit of edge to your dress, and I love how fierce Ann's outfit is - I would never have thought of wearing fishnets under ripped jeans. Bravo ladies.

    1. Thanks Gail!

I really enjoyed this PPP variation and think it just gives us all a better chance to show our individuality when we chose our own piece. Black, blue or olive coloured, the fishnets all inspired such different looks and hopefully that will be food for thought for our readers too.

    1. This monthly get together was always such fun, and now it will be even more so as no-one is being forced into a top or dress that they really don't like. I know Samanatha protested that she didn't like fishnets, but her styling told quite a different story.

      Thanks for your lovely comments!

    1. I don't own black fishnets, as yes, they do seem to suffer under that slightly tacky image, but these blue ones seemed like fun. Having said that, I love that Mary looks so sleek and elegant in her black ones and then Ann has totally milked it by going all out sexy, rock chick. And Samantha turns up looking all cute and colourful despite loathing her fishnet finds. Oh, what fun I say!

Glad you enjoyed it Laurie x

  4. You know blue and green should never be seen - right? Rubbish - you look fabulous! I think blue and green were made for each other. I really loved your entire outfit. The others were great as well.

You didn't reply to my reply about the my striped tights a few weeks back. Can I send them to you?

    Have a great week

    1. Do you know Veronica, throughout my childhood we had that saying, but it was different - "Red and green should never be seen, except on an Irish fairy queen". How come we Scots were so misled?

Anyway, I loved that I finally got the chance to wear these tights and yes the blue and green were made for each other. Am so pleased you enjoyed the post, thanks.

I've sent you my details. Sorry that I missed this!

Hope you have a lovely week too x

    2. Why aren't blue and green supposed to be together? I've never heard this....I think they look lovely together. Is this a cultural saying from the UK? Hmmm, wondering about that. I absolutely love this color combo! A x

    3. I'm equally confused Annie. I too think they go beautifully together, but yes it's seemingly a saying...

      Thanks for that x

  5. I love these colours of green and blue together. The cobalt fishnets are fabulous, and those green shoes!!! Oh my. They really are like something a super heroine would wear. Love this top to toe! xx

    1. The tights and shoes did a merry dance together when I paired them up and I knew the rest of the outfit would be secondary to them. I found the shoes in a charity shop last year, hardly worn I may add, and they only cost me £9.50 which I thought was quite a bargain. I didn't really think of them as having that super hero image, but love that notion now.

Thanks for dropping by Lisa x

    1. Hahaha, you pretty much did the same yourself Samantha! Your dislike of the dreaded fishnets wasn't in the least bit apparent - you looked in your element, and quite right too!

Yes, next month is on the horizon. Where did I leave that list?

  12. I loved seeing everyone's interpretation of fishnets! Everyone's personality really comes out and shines!

I love your blue and green look! I really like those two colors together.

And changing it to ping pong pieces must make this series a lot more manageable, no? I can't even imagine how the three of you managed to send all these pieces all around the world month after month... Very impressive!

    1. Yes, it's so interesting to see how revealing it is how we style the same piece and make it our own. Tights are just tights after all and yet these outfits are all so very different thanks to that simple variation of colour.

It was great to run PPP with that new idea but as time has worn on I think we're all happy not to have that next package to organise. This will be much easier to orchestrate.

  13. What a great way to recreate your ping pong playtime!!
I've only worn fishnets out and about once and that was to a wedding. They were fun with my neon yellow skirt and black leather jacket.I felt sexy in them!
Each of you so beautifully expressed your own sense of style and personality and that's what I've always looked forward to in this ping pong game.
Anna those purple/blue fishnets are delicious and funk up your dress so well!!

    1. I think the sexy image was the one we all were so aware of and therefore were trying hard not to be too cliched with our styling. And it worked. There was room for one hot chick and Ann carried that off perfectly, leaving the rest of us to find our own niche. And hey, that all panned out fine too.

The blue tights were a great ploy for my demure tea dress, and I'm delighted at the response they got.

      Thanks Jude x
