The wind doth blow!

At the start of the week I had a bit of a cream and brown thing going on outfit-wise which for that very reason meant it wasn't going to hit the headlines on the blog - way too boring! Come Tuesday morning the pressure was on to find a more upbeat, smile-inducing ensemble to lift my mood as well as to share with you. Enter stage left some winter florals. Winter and florals may be an unusual combination for some, but hey, I think they really work. See what you think...

I've only worn these (New Look) boots once over Christmas (see here) so it's good to find another outfit to work with these. I like the gold tone of the heels and how that picks up the yellow in the flowers. The peplum jacket was a find in a charity shop as was the brand new pink ostrich handbag. My coat comes from Sicily where I found it in a vintage shop (yay!) while we were on holiday. The rings are all gifts and my sunglasses are from Sainsbury's.

I know these bold florals are pretty full-on, but I also think that they're a marriage made in heaven (seemingly mixing our florals is bang on trend this spring too). Both items were sourced from charity shops last year and are from different retailers - the blouse from Next and the trousers from H&M. Each piece obviously works beautifully with a plain partner, for instance I have a baby pink cashmere polo neck that works perfectly with these pants, and likewise I've styled the top with a plain black skirt which worked fine and dandy. But, well, hey, it's just too conservative for me to dress like that every day. Sometimes I like to make more of a statement, like today.

The wind was blowing furiously as you can tell, meaning my peplum jacket alone wasn't enough even for my short walk to work. But it was no hardship to pull my pink winter coat one more time. Spring may be here (almost) but the fierce wind that continued to rise in the course of the day really kept the temperature down. I managed to escape the worst of the wind for my morning swim by crossing to the other side of the island and heading on to Pentle Bay. New Grimsby bay, where the gallery lies as well as where Polly and I did our shoot, was hammered all day long with hail and rain showers appearing seemingly out of nowhere.

In the course of the day the view from my office window constantly changes as the tide washes in and out and the brilliant colours of the sea change too according to the sun and cloud cover. At this moment the azure green of the water was highlighted by the contrasting raincloud that was hurtling towards us. Minutes later the brightness was gone, eclipsed by the heavy storm slapping huge dollops of rain against the window. Mother Nature often puts on a display to distract me from my admin!

  1. Oh yes the wind surely doth blow here in Bedford too!

You look so cheerful and Springlike it's easy to imagine it's actually beautiful day where you are in those lovely florals, the amazing pink plaid coat, fabulous boots with golden heels. I love your pink Ostrich bag and the sunglasses are brilliant!

The striped tights should be wending their way to you as I type...

Warmer weather is on the way - hurray!

    1. I'm so pleased that I managed to make this look spring like, when in fact it was blowing a crazy gale. All of that pink and florals along with the sunglasses are surely the way to go in a scam like this!

Yes, the tights have arrived and I'm mulling over how to showcase them. Watch this space...

      Have a fab weekend x

  2. I'm cray-zay over that blouse. It really does look vintage and the cuffs...swoon.

I'd say this outfit is the polar opposite of boring. This is like a jolt of joy. LOVE the double floral pattern mixing.

And if you should ever tire of that blouse...you know where you can send it ; P

    1. I'm still a bit love struck with this blouse too, but will keep you in mind...

I agree that the blouse does have a vintage feel about it which is so surprising for something straight off the high street, don't you think? These two florals were just begging to step out together, but I was worried it might be too cliched. I'm glad you think not.

  3. I really like this outfit and I think the blouse looks a lot like a bigger version of the same print in the pants. Did you buy these items together or just hope that one might work well with the other? I also like the bright plaid coat.
Anna, please accept my condolences for the loss of life in Britain because of the recent attack. These senseless, horrific acts serve to strengthen our resolve to live our lives fully and passionately, unbending to the tyranny of others who would take those freedoms from us.

    1. The blouse and trousers were bought on different shopping expeditions at completely different times. I only happened upon the pairing by chance when I threw a whole lot of clothes onto the bed by way of inspiration. I do that often when I'm not able to shop and in need of new ideas. I did wonder if the two together might be too much, but am really pleased that they worked out so well.

Thank you Jude for your kind words. Life is so precious for each and every one of us, and yet for this one person it clearly wasn't something to be cherished. Like you, my heart to goes out to those who will never forget that day and how it changed their lives forever.

  4. Such floral elegance by the sea, Anna! Love the bright colours, you can't have too much colour. (But do still do your morning swims in hail?)xx

    1. You can't have too much colour - that's music to my ears, Elizabeth! This was a particularly joyful outfit, just right for a midweek lift.

Swimming in the rain or hail really makes no difference - it's pretty wet no matter the weather. A cutting wind is the worst of all and that's because the chill factor is worse than the sea temperature.

Hope you have a lovely weekend x

    1. Yes, we're all a bit tired of this windswept look now, don't you think?

The blouse was a charity shop scoop and I can see it will be a favourite for a long time yet.

      Thanks for dropping by Laurie.

  6. I adore that blouse - I am wearing one very similar to it that I think is from the early 80s (pre-Great Size Shift). You are bolder than me in the floral mixing department, but I love it! I saw so many gorgeous booties on our recent Vancouver shopping trip, but oh, I was strong and resisted. Lovely outfit, Anna! Hoping you get some spring soon!

    1. These two items seemed destined to dance together Sheila. I loved them even as they lay on the bed together and once I'd added the boots, well the whole look became a winner in my eyes.

Going shopping and resisting temptation is an anethema to me. Well done to you for being strong!
