Colour burst

A few days ago I was bemoaning my midweek blahs, but today has been a joy thanks to this colour burst outfit. A splash of orange is just what the doctor ordered to lift the spirits and get me back on track. I've topped off the bright orange chinos with this art deco inspired jacket which I found on ebay a couple of years ago. I was in two minds as to what shoes to wear - neutral wedges would have been more leg lengthening (thigh slimming too), but my new tassel sandals looked so cute waiting at the front of my wardrobe that I just had to give them their day.

Details - jacket: eBay (made in Morocco, no brand), t shirt: M&S, chinos: Boden, sandals: River Island, handbag: L Credi, necklace: Charlie Dodge, sunglasses: Quay Australia, rings and bangle: all charity shopped.

We've had a glorious day of sunshine here and I've managed to get two swims in, one early this morning and the other after work with my friend Kate who's here on holiday. We cycled to Appletree Bay just after 5pm.

You have to laugh at our body language here - clearly we weren't expecting to share our outdoors swimming pool! The interlopers only stayed for a couple of minutes, but Chris our photographer captured the scene perfectly.

Val and Chris are friends of Kate who thoroughly enjoy our swims without having to get wet and cold. Val loves collecting shells, searching for the tiny cowrie ones we have here hidden in the ribbons of shells strewn along the high tide line (no, not these big ones on the table). They're all heading off home tomorrow, but have had a lovely holiday with today's weather being the icing on the cake - honestly it could have passed as the height of the summer. Kate will be back again in June and I'm sure we'll get some swimming together then. Solitary swimming is fine, it's what I'm used to, but it's such a joy to share my hobby with a like-minded friend. See you soon Kate!

  1. Oh how lovely you look! The jacket with the chinos is fab. And the sandals are gorgeous; of course you couldn't wait to wear them. I love the orange handbag, too.

It's great to share an interest with a friend. Happy swimming!

    1. We do have such similar tastes you and I Laurie. The handbag was from TK Maxx a couple of years ago, but may still be out there somewhere...

I'll keep you in mind if I ever tire of those boots. What size are you?

The timing of these boats arriving was classic. We couldn't believe it!

    1. What a great reaction Monica! The jacket always gets a lot of attention every time I wear it. I don't wear it often though as it's so memorable, but that works in its favour, especially with me as it keeps it fresh.

Kate and I do have such lovely swims together. Well, they start as swimming and end up as swim/chats if there's such a thing.

Have a lovely week Monica x

  7. Your swimming - what a joyful activity to share with a friend! I'm glad the interlopers took off quickly.

As for your outfit, that's indeed good medicine for midweek blahs. The shoes are a delight. And punchy orange is Vitamin C for the soul. Excellent!! You couldn't have found a better blue backdrop than that sky.

    1. You're so right Melanie, this is the best way to enjoy a bit of exercise - with a friend who loves it as much as you do.

My approach of more is more certainly worked at chasing away the blahs, aided in no small way by the theraputic colour burst, particularly those orange trousers. Great to have these in my wardrobe arsenal!

  8. s AAAA AAA spectacular array vibrancy up, down and all around. The jacket reminds me a a stained glass window. The shoes are perfect! This is the kind of outfit that takes some attitude and confidence and you've got both dear Anna!
Do you always wear red swim caps/hats for visibility? Swimming with a good friend sounds like something you'd like to do more often. Do many folks who live on the island do swims like yours?
    Terrific post!0

    1. Thanks so much Jude. It's not one of my bravest outfits, but certainly one of the brightest.

The swimming caps are for visibility and for longer swims I have an orange buoy that ties around my waist so that I can be seen better too. The large boats have cabins that are quite high up and therefore a tiny head bobbing in and out of the water isn't easily seen. To be honest, I do enjoy my early morning swims alone as it's a kind of meditation that I wouldn't want to share. That said, when I have second swim later in the day it's lovely to have someone to chat to as it's more about the company rather than the exercise. And yes, there are quite a few other sea swimmers on this and other islands too. When you look at the surroundings you can understand why.

      Cheers!

  10. What a gorgeous pop of juicy colour! Against the blue the whole outfit really jumps off the computer screen.

Eek on those guys in the speed boats. Good thing you weren't already in there swimming.

    1. Yes Suzanne the blue and orange make a great contrast don't they?

Eek exactly. Speed boats are my biggest fear when I'm in the water. I wear ear plugs too which means I don't even hear them coming. Early morning swims are much less stressful as none of these kids are even out of their beds at that time!

  11. Your comment made me smile, orange most certainly is good year round . Your orange pants pair so beautifully with the bright patterned jacket. Great bag too.
How dare those noisy speed boats invade your swimming space, the cheek of them.

    1. I dread to think what my wardrobe would comprise of without orange Jill. I have it in so many guises and love the energy it imparts into an outfit. The bag is a real favourite and I use it so often, but leave it on the desk rather than keep featuring it on the blog. It's really my every day bag.

And yes, it was a bit rude of them to turn up uninvited!

  12. This bright orange outfit oozes summer. It is so cheerful and holiday like. Especially with the sandals. Elegant holiday like that is to say.
The swimming never seize to surprise me. I think I would last 25 meters. And I am not exaggerating.

    1. Elegant holiday is a lovely description, thanks. It certainly is a cheery outfit and did draw lots of compliments.

Your grasp of the English language is so good Greetje but I have to correct you - ceases is what you mean rather than seize. Is that rude of me to tell you that? You know my intentions are good.
