Gorgeous gingham

So you'll remember last month when I went to Harrogate and had a rather splendid shopping spree? Catch up here if you missed it. Well one thing that was rather unusual for my trip is that I planned to buy a specific piece that I'd seen in the magazines. True fashionistas always keep their finger on the pulse trend-wise, but my clothes shopping is usually led by whatever I come across in the charity shops leading me to walk my own fashion path. However I'd seen that the statement sleeve was the thing and decided that if I could find statement sleeves in gingham I'd be sorted. This was one trend that I wanted to follow.

The blouse that ticked all the boxes comes from George at Asda of all places. Yes, the shops are full of gingham currently and this one (see here) came in a close second, but it didn't have the statement sleeve I was looking for. I paid £12 for this lovely blouse and considering it's currently on trend and yet will become a classic over time, I think it was a good purchase. Much as I prefer to buy vintage clothing or at least shop in an eco-friendly way from charity shops, I think sometimes I have to allow myself some freedom to step away from my own confines and enjoy fashion from the wider market place. TK Maxx is a regular haunt of mine as is Office, purveyor of the finest brogues (that I can afford). Fashion should be fun and this top certainly feels good to wear, causing me to do a little shimmy on the shore.

Details - blouse: George at Asda, trousers: M&S, boots: ASOS, sunglasses: Quay Australia, ring and pendant: charity shopped.

    1. Isn't it funny how these fashions keep coming around again Monica? The fact that the blouse is man made rather than cotton really helps it have this lovely drape. And yes, he boots are just an unexpected splash of colour and pattern which will be no surprise to you!

  2. I've always liked gingham too and recently bought myself a yellow gingham gypsy top from Primani.
Your George top is super and the statement sleeves add a stylish element, it'll be a versatile piece too.

    1. Oooo yellow gingham sounds lovely! And as a gypsy top too - I'd like to see that. I did pop into the new Primani store in Truro and may have accidently bought some shoes there...

    1. This was quite a mission for me - what a lot of searching I did to find the right combination of sleeve and check, but this was worth the effort.

It's been beautiful weather here recently x

  4. It is grand. I know as I bought one very similar for a rather higher price than 12 pounds in Turin. And I don't think you can see the difference haha. So you did very well. Styling it with those fun trousers (wow) and those statement boots is very you, but this is still also very me. Love the whole outfit.

    1. Hahaha, you see! There is indeed an overlap between us - I knew it. I could easily see you in this, apart from the fact that the trousers would be way too short for your long legs Greetje.

  5. Gingham and summer just seem to go together.

I can see why you fell in love with this top. It is super cute and will work with so many pieces.

I was also tempted by some gingham I saw in a store in Hong Kong. I chose not to buy it but my husband went back and gifted the piece to me. I decided to DIY the piece to make it more of my own.

    1. That seemed like the perfect answer to your dilemma Suzanne. If you had this piece forced upon you then a bit of customising will be the perfect remedy for something mass produced. I'll look forward to seeing the end result.

  6. Sleeeeves! I do love a dramatic sleeve, and this is a lovely blouse. I don't have any gingham in my wardrobe (been there, done that), but this is just gorgeous. Gah, those boots...want!

    1. Like I said earlier, these old trends just keep swinging round and around. I'm buying into gingham big time and will be gadding about in it over the summer months. Look out!

    1. Do you wear your brocade boots much Veronica? I've not seen them on your blog for a while. I know that I'll get a lot of wear out of this blouse, not only for this summer, but it's gonna be a mainstay in my wardrobe thanks to the style and those ruffles.

  10. Gingham is a fabric that somehow has sincerity. It's geometric at its must basic. Adults and children alike look appropriate in it. It has a basic, homespun vibe. The large form becomes "buffalo plaid but the small form is "checks"
Enough analysis, but gingham seems worthy for the way it hangs in there despite its simplicity.
I love your blouse. I'm glad it made you spread your arms and dance. The boots were smiling because they got to participate.

    1. Gingham is hanging on in there, playing the long game and enjoying a brilliant resurgence Jude, that's for sure. I'm thrilled that this budget find is both elegant and of the moment too. A shimmy on the sand was in order as homage to the enduring print that is gingham as well as the ruffle sleeves. And yes, the boots enjoyed participating in the dance x

  13. Congratulations on finding the exact item you had in your mind before you left! I've tried that before and it seems like I'm trudging through a mission rather than wandering aimlessly through the aisles! I guess that doesn't sound like fun for some people though either! Oh well, good for you for finding such a great top and I hope we'll see it often!
