The poncho

As we reach progress further in autumn, I'm having to concede that an extra layer is a necessity rather than an option, sadly. I suppose it does give me the chance to bring out all of my winter woollies including this fluffy poncho which can't really make it's mind up. Is it just a big jumper or a fully fledged poncho? Whichever, it's very snuggly and was a cosy buffer against the onshore wind during our early morning photo shoot.  I've paired it up with these rather lovely tweed trousers which have a sleek satin lining, again a little protection from the chilly weather. They were my bargain of day when I was last shopping at TK Maxx. The label price was £415 with a reduction down to £59.99 - oh, how I love a bargain! With a mid rise and slouchy pockets, they pretty much ticked all the boxes and when I tried them on the leg length was ideal for me too. The deal was done!

I've worn them today with my two tone heeled brogues which have been waiting in the wings for their blog debut. The extra height is just what I needed to stop the trousers looking a bit heavy, even chunky on my less than lithesome thighs. Another debut piece is the extra long necklace which is in perfect proportion with the oversized jumper/poncho. Thanks go to my sister Dianne for this, and its matching bracelet, yet to be shown. And the finishing flourish had to be the vintage leather handbag, a recent charity shop find which is a real classic. Autumn is upon us and I'm good to go.

Poncho: TK Maxx. Trousers: No 21 (TK Maxx). Tee shirt: M&S. Shoes: New Look. Pendant: gift. Handbag: charity shop. Brown stone ring: East. Diamante ring: charity shop.

  1. Where to start?!?!?
The shoes...love love LOVE! Newlook?? I was stunned, they look so chic and "higher end".
My eye was darting around from one fab item to the next...fluffy poncho, checked trousers (which look like a quality item, good old TK) and that fantastic little bag. I sometimes wonder how such lovely things end up unwanted and unloved? I am glad it has a new home...I hope to see it again soon.

    1. Hey Samantha, isn't it good that we (hardened shoppers) can still be surprised by the likes of New Look. All that means is that we need to keep checking out these unexpected sources. I've been lucky with a couple of things from Peacocks in the past and that was very surprising! The moral being, let's keep our eyes peeled! Great to hear from you xxx

    1. Thanks Greetje. I've had the shoes for years and they are so comfortable - high enough to be flattering with skirts too. Lovely to hear from you.

  3. Shoes bloody marvellous! Am a big New Look fan - they won a fashion award last year didn't they? I like them because they are one of the few manufactures that actually make a decent size 8 - not a 41 pretending to be an 8, an out there, sad but true size 42...M and S do too ... Sometimes one craves a little more fun than M and S though! Never found a pair of shoes to fit me in TKMax...love the whole Autumn ensemble though - come Autumn all my beloved pink and Aqua shriek to be allowed to hide in the back of the wardrobe and creams, greys and scrumptious tan yell for attention.. Weird isn't it'? Thank God for seasons eh? Life would be so dull just to live in hot clines! Xxx Big Foot - you know who I am!

  4. What a bargain with those trousers! What a great outfit. I often look in New Look for shoes, not least because they do size 3! But some of their designs are really good and these look so classy. I adore that necklace - in fact I adore your jewellery collection. You really do have some lovely pieces and I would totally wear that necklace.
And the poncho is perfect for this time of year.

Your 'car coat' brought back memories of the 70s, Anna! And I've no idea why they were called that either! A little TLC as it looks perfect with the rest of the outfit. Especially like that you've used different buttons - what a lovely touch.
And those tights just liven up the skirt and look adorable with those brogues.
I completely sympathise - I too suffer SAD - quite badly. In the past I've really dreaded Winter and I do find it a hard slog. Since the clocks have gone back my body clock has been all over the place! It's why I love to wear colour so much in the Winter. Definitely helps me to keep a more optimistic mood until Spring.

    1. Yes, I can't believe what a saving I made on these tweeds. Hope to pair them up with a jacket or two later on. And New Look is always worth a quick look as you never know what delights there will be in the shoe dept. I've just bought a fab new jewellery box and wondered if it's going to make it onto one of my posts soon. It's really lovely and takes loads of pieces.

  5. Oooh, I love this poncho!! Love, love, love it! It looks so soft and fuzzy, just perfect for getting cozy. I have a rather similar scarf/poncho that I picked up while living in Beijing. It is one of my favorite winter items. I love how you paired it here with some classic tweed trousers and high heeled brogues.

Anna, one more comment, I love the scenery of your images here and how your outfit matches your setting. Bravo!

    1. Hey Ann, good to hear from you. (Am going to have to get technical help re Discus as I can't get any of my comments show up on your blog.) Anyway, glad you like the poncho and I just love fluffy knits - so nice and cuddly as you say. You'll have to go back to see the best photography - my assistant did the honours throughout the summer but has gone away for a while. Some of the newer posts will be selfies with timer and tripod so maybe not such creative backdrops!

    1. Hi Susan, lovely to greet you to my blog. Thank you for the feedback. I'm about to style up this poncho with some boots next time, so you might have to keep a look out for that.
