April showers

There's nothing we can do about April showers apart from finding the right jacket to fend them off. This silver Parka was my daughter's, but she grew tired of it. Her loss, my gain surely. I think the grey weather influenced my clothes choice but I managed to find a bit of sparkle amongst the monochrome as my tunic had a strand or two of lurex thread sprinkled throughout.

It was the end of the working day when Polly and I were just locking up to go home. I thought one more photo to catch the early evening sunshine wouldn't go amiss. The worst of the rain had cleared through by lunchtime; normal service was resumed.

This was the first (and last) time I wore this tunic/top/dress. I'd found it in a charity shop a few months back, but hadn't managed to find a good partnership for it. Today, however, I had the brainwave to add my faux leather jeans and suddenly there was the start of an outfit. The check blouse virtually jumped off the hanger as I was pondering my next move, and finally these sweet little brogues offered themselves up for inspection. I totally adore the shoes, but they're actually half a size too small. Every so often I get them out and think that they will stretch - this time - but they never do!

It was a good enough ensemble, but not the kind of thing that makes my heart sing. As part of my clearing out regime, I'm starting to get rid of these OK items, and this one is on its way to a fellow blogger who may love it a bit more than I did. I suppose it could have gone onto my "to sell" pile, but I could imagine the recipient wearing this and looking cute as anything. I hope she enjoys it.

Jacket: Primark. Tunic: charity shop. Trousers; H&M. Blouse: charity shop. Shoes: TK Maxx. Necklace: old. Rings: charity shop. Sunglasses: Quay Australia.

  1. I think you definitely won out getting that raincoat!!
It rarely rains here or at least in long spurts, so I don't even have a raincoat---crazy, huh?
I like how your ensemble came together, but I know what you're saying. Sometimes you feel so "great" in an outfit, and sometimes, it's just "eh".
As for your shoes, did you try the extra socks & then use the hairdryer on them, trick? It really worked for one of my pairs!! jodie

    1. Jodie I can't imagine a life without rain - sounds like heaven! I've had to get tough re my clothes overhaul meaning only the "loves" get to stay. I think it's the only way. Suddenly I've had lots of tips on how to stretch these shoes so you can be sure I'll be giving them a go. Thank you!

  2. I think the tunic is lovely on you and I like the whole monochrome look. Yes, your daughter's loss was your gain!

I've just taken a pair of my daughters bargain boots (50.00 reduced 10 from Topshop) to be stretched in Timpsons in town. It cost a fiver but they went from a size 3 to a 4 - her size and fit her perfectly now.

    Have a great week

  4. I like the outfit on you, but I totally understand the desire to strive to only own things that make you feel great - I'm trying to do the same thing but have a way to go... If this outfit doesn't make you feel great, then it makes sense to pass it on to someone you think will enjoy it more!

And I love the shoes. Too bad they are too small. I had been holding on to the cutest pairs of tan flats with the hopes they would stretch out, but they hurt may feet every time...

    1. So Andrea it appears that your tan flats may be able to be redeemed after all. Lots of useful tips and advice on how to overcome the size issue. Like you, I do have a long way to go with my clear out, but by talking about it, I'm pushing myself into doing it, little by little.

The brogues are so good- some of the men wear them for Lindyhoppping and my new lindy dance shoes are a Mary Jane version of them!x

    1. Kezzie, I'm probably the only person who doesn't know what kinda dancing that is! I clearly live a very small life! Anyhoo, glad you like the shoes, and perhaps you can tell me all about Lindy when we meet up in the summer?

  7. Oh yes, your outfit has to sing, especially if you're wearing shoes that want to dance. Too bad the shoes are snug. I have some like that, oh, maybe my feet shrank since last time. Maybe if I dunk them in hot water while I'm wearing them (doesn't work, heh). I love your choice of top with the tunic here too. Glad you showed us - looks great, but onwards, upwards.

    1. My feet do change size as my weight fluctuates, so maybe I just need to drop a few kgs! The outfit was good, but just not great and that's not good enough, is it?

  9. I do like the way you've styled it but if it's not making you swoon, then always best to pass onto another.

    Great parka though!

    1. I liked the final result, but really can't hang onto things if they don't spark joy. The parka is a great addition to my wardrobe though x

  11. I like the tunic/dress too, but you are right.. if you don't love it, there are plenty of other clothes in your wardrobe you do love.
Shame about the size of the shoes (been there done that) as they are really cool. On a stretcher at the cobblers?
