Heels or flats?

Mornings seem to be such a rush for me. No matter how early I get up, I'm always rushing when I finally get dressed. I wish I could be one of those very organised people who get their prep done the night before. The idea of laying out my clothes in the evening seems like a great plan, but it doesn't work for me. I really like to wait to see the day before I commit. Once I've come back from swimming I have a better sense of what the day ahead will be like weather wise. Yes, I know that British weather can be so changeable, but at least I can make a better stab at it in the morning.

And this is where the outfit goes wrong to my mind. Much as I love these shoes and was delighted to get the tartan tights out for their blog debut, it didn't take me long to decide I wasn't happy. By lunchtime I needed to get our of these crazy high heels (so impractical for work) and that's what I did.

My gold boots were instantly an improvement, and dispensing with the patterned tights in favour of the block colour also seemed like the right move. In addition, I could actually get up and down the ladder at work which is pretty important when it comes to moving artwork around! Dressing up for work is great, but sometimes I forget the need to be functional. Thank goodness I live only 200m from work making this quick change at lunchtimes an easy task. In fact I sometimes have to change my entire outfit because the temperature has risen so much by lunchtime. The huge gallery windows offer a great view, but can act as a greenhouse too, meaning a cosy outfit for the early morning start can cause meltdown by midday.

On a fine evening this is my favourite spot to watch the sun go down.

  2. So you go swimming every morning? I'm thinking it's darn cold if you're still wearing tights? I call that crazy!!
As for the heels/flats---they're both quite perfect in their own way!
You could think of changing in the middle of the day, as a way to get more use out of your wardrobe---ha ha! jodie

    1. Hey Jodie, I don't think I've ever denied the fact that I'm crazy! And a lunchtime change is not in the least uncommon with me x

  3. Oh such a shame about the heels with the tartan tights. I was diggin' that!

I understand though. I wouldn't last more than 10 minutes in those heels.

I agree with Jodi. You get to use more of wardrobe when you can change at noon.

  5. I honestly thought I was going to be all "heels" but when I saw that your flats were actually gold boots and blue tights, well that was the decider. Boots for me!
Your heels are lovely, as are the tartan tights BUT they are no contest for your boots and tights combo.
    Big thumbs up from me!

    1. I love getting all these different opinions. I'm with you on the second option, also it was by far the most comfortable!

  6. I'm totally crushing on the first look. Gorgeous colours and your bravery to mix and match. I like the second look, but for me not is just wow!

    1. Thanks Laurie. I think I need to repeat this exercise a bit more often, as it's so useful to have all this feedback.

  7. I think this outfit is so you, Anna. Elegant and sophisticated. The heels look fab but we have to be practical, too. The boots look great and the whole outfit is really lovely. Love the tartan tights!

I can only wear low heels for periods of time. I have one pair of 'high' heels (about 3 inches) and they are wearable for about 10 minutes! It's comfort all the way with me now; I've suffered enough for fashion/style in my youth!!

    1. Golly Veronica, elegant and sophisticated is so not how I see myself. When I recently styled up my rock chick look I felt so very me. But the fact is, I love all styles of clothes as we're all so mutli-faceted. I'm aware that my days are numbered re wearing high heels. I worry that the comfort factor will get me in the end too!

  8. I love both versions! The blue tights with the heels are fabulous! And something I could walk in... I could never walk (nor would attempt it as I have a very weak ankle after several surgeries) in the heels, but they are fabulous. And so are the tartan tights. I love your bag, too!

    1. Much as I love both looks, the fact that I was at work and had to be practical won the day. I love heels, but really struggle to wear them all day. As I said to Veronica, I think my high heel days are numbered!

  9. I like both outfits, but indeed getting up and down a ladder in those absolutely gorgeous but high burgundy shoes... that is a bit much.

  10. The ladder was really the last straw, as the feet were beginning to throb! Glad you like it - I thought the skirt might appeal to you x

    1. It certainly does, but so do the high heels and the tartan tights.
