Pretty woman dress

I recently saw another blogger feature her "Pretty woman" dress and it made me think of this one hanging in the back of my wardrobe. I loved the scene where Julia Roberts wears this dress at the races and decided to give my own spin on that today. This is me dressing up to the nines you might say. That's a little joke for a special someone after her comment on Facebook x

I'm so lucky that my job allows me the creative freedom to dress how I please day in, day out. I love the opportunity to wear something classic like this one day and something completely funky the next. Like this for example.

These pewter brogues were a late spring arrival (makes them sound like a long awaited baby lamb, doesn't it?) from my most favourite of brogue suppliers, Office. I blame my Scottish upbringing for this unquenchable passion. I've lost track of the number of pairs of these I have, yet there's always another slightly different pair to be lusted after. I'm trying to avoid the Office sale which is currently on see here but that doesn't mean you have to as well. Although I would appreciate it if you at least let me know which ones you've bought behind my back.

So the two outfits are made up like this - spotty dress is from Wallis, jacket by Tabitha, shoes BCBGeneration, necklace from Debenhams, rings are old, rose gold bangle is by Kate Spade, flowery bracelet is from Dorothy Perkins, crocodile handbag was from a charity shop. The trousers are from H&M, jacket is by Michael Kors, top, rings and handbag are from a charity shop, shoes from my beloved Office, sunglasses are by Quay Australia and socks from Primark of all places. Sorry for the lack of follow through links to all of these products. Am hosting our first summer show today, therefore am slightly like a headless chicken this morning. Wish me luck!

    1. I consider myself very lucky to have such a great job. I think it's the main reason my style can be so diverse, well that, and the fact that I hate to be too repetitive with my outfits.

    1. Ah, Jodie, you're a bit of an expert in the variety stakes yourself. It's such a simple way to inject a bit of fun into our daily lives isn't it?

  5. Lovely outfits, Anna and those ankle strap shoes are beautiful. The brogues are pretty special, too!

It's great to be able to wear anything in the workplace. We had a pretty easy going dress code at the university where I used to work and I do, sometimes, miss getting dressed for work.

    1. So glad you like the shoes Veronica. I can't imagine not being able to get up and dress for my role as gallery manager. I'm sure I would adapt, but it's one of the perks of the job. Perhaps I might become one of those eccentric old dears who still dresses up in her fancy clothes while pushing a shopping trolley around all day!

  6. Such a cute dress. You make Julia Roberts look like a schlump in comparison. And those brogues are insanely cool. Anna, you are the gift that keeps on giving!

  8. Hi Anna! These two outfits are nothing short of spectacular! The jacket you've combined with the dress has such lovely and interesting details. Also what you might lack by way of JR's hat, you more than made up for with the cute pumps.
The sequin jacket and the tuxedo pants are really a perfect complement to each other but with those socks and shoes!!!!! (Oops, brogues) This is one of those outfits that is just off the charts! You would be so much fun to work with Anna. Obviously you'd be fun to shop with!

    1. I'm delighted that you appreciate the details of these very different ensembles. For me it's all in the details; those little tweaks that bring a bit of personality to what I wear. Shoes in particular can turn an ordinary outfit into something with the wow factor which is what I think the socks and shoes combo does here. Turning up at work dressed like this does signal a day of fun, but to be perfectly honest I like to inject fun into most days!
      Have a great weekend x

  11. I like both outfits just as much. So nice to see someone else who has such opposites in style. The pretty woman outfit is of course my style (you know that, nothing too wild haha). But I equally like the funky outfit. Lots of good details there, like the socks and that fun bag. And of course the shoes. I am trying not to buy anything anymore too. Doing poorly, but I am getting better. Best thing is not to look online and not to go into town.

    1. Am so pleased that you like both of these. Yes, I thought you'd approve of the pretty woman look, but thought the funky vibe may not be your thing Greetje. I wonder if we need to join a new blogger group called Shopaholics Anonymous! I think it might be very heavily subscribed.
