Black trouser challenge 12

Week twelve of this personal style challenge and I'm still not tiring of these frilled fancy pants from River Island. I'm hoping that I'm managing to keep you interested too...

We're still clinging on to the remnants of summer here on the Isles of Scilly even though there's (seemingly) wild weather due this weekend. I thought I'd better bring out this little top which is a tad late to the party re statement sleeves, gingham and cold shoulder trends. Lots of bloggers are already airing their wishlists for A/W17 making me dig my heels in a bit - I'm not finished showcasing my summer pieces yet! This pre-loved top originates from F&F at Tesco and fulfilled all the requirements for this summer's hottest trends - florals, checks, bell sleeves as well as the obligatory cold shoulders. I'd promised myself that I'd not be entering into the yards of flesh being exposed in the name of fashion that is the cold shoulder look, however these split sleeves seemed like a tiny nod to the trend without being too revealing for the workplace.

The white mules were a supermarket purchase last year (Sainsbury's) and have taken me a whole year to get them on the go, as it were. Now that I've managed to stretch them a little I feel I ought to get some wear out of them before boots and brogues take centre stage. The clutch is pre-loved, but no brand label to be found. The belt is a new purchase from eBay and I have it lined up with a vintage blouse for another styling soon. The sunglasses were also from Sainsbury's sale last summer and the bangle and rings are from random sources (gifts and pre-loved).

I'm still getting a kick out of these frilled trousers and they get me a fair few compliments too. It'll be interesting how long this challenge will fire me with enthusiasm, but I promise to drop it before my passion wanes. The joy is in discovering pieces within my wardrobe that work well rather than just can be worn with black - the difference is huge in my book.

Please join me on Sunday for another edition of Ping Pong Piece where we'll be styling wide trousers for our sins! In the meantime, I do hope that the hurricane Gert swoops over the top of us all without causing too much damage. Stay safe x

  1. I'm loving this series Anna!
And, I was eyeing up this pair in River island... although the checked pair were calling my name louder than the black :oP
I think the ruffles are going to look fabulous in winter too.
A great buy that you are proving to be versatile and practical.

    1. And I'm so loving this series too Sam! I'd no idea that it would run and run like this, but yes, the autumn looms large and I'm looking at jackets and boots that may work... A great buy indeed and one that's been well worth the money.

    1. You're right Judy, I've had loads of fun with these trousers - just putting them on makes me smile and stutting off to work gives me a thrill. The frills sashay about on their own I swear! Boots and jackets will be the order of the day as the weather gets cooler, but I'm hoping we're about to have an Indian summer soon with warm, golden days allowing me to get the last of my summer tops out. Sounds like you need to do the same...

  3. I just may have to buy those pants or a similar pair! I dont wear pants that often, but the ruffles are so cool and you have shown the versatility.. so I am interested :-) This top is very lovely with the white mules. I am one of those doing fall shopping, as I get a bit impatient from our hot weather!

    1. Hi Jess, so lovely to hear from you again. (I owe you a visit to my dear, but there again, I'm playing catch up with so many bloggers at this time of year!) I really could see you rocking these fancy pants with your long, lean legs - golly they'd look fabulous!
I wouldn't mind shopping for autumn clothes if we'd actually had summer rather than a smattering of sunny days. Lucky you!

  4. I'm not tired of the pants either. They are so fun but really pretty classic black. I think your shirt is perfect with just a bit of a slit to show your shoulders. They seem more practical for air conditioned rooms too this summer. I'm still showing shorts and summer clothes myself on the blog because some ladies will still have warm weather for a month or more and I can't bear yet to pull out the sweaters and booties. Have a great week Anna! xx Julia

    1. Hello again to you too Julia. Gosh we've all been so busy for the past couple of months, haven't we? The trousers are still going strong, yes and the colour really helps with that. I saw these in pink and knew they were a one trick pony.
I'll be keeping with summery outfits for as long as possible and am holding out for an Indian summer here. And in the meantime honey, I'll be over to catch up on your latest news x

  5. Yes, keep that summer alive while you can, Anna! Down here, (unless you're going skiing and sadly I'm not this year), we think we've had enough of winter! Roll on warm (but not incinerating) weather this summer! I have thoroughly enjoyed these great black pants of yours - just goes to show how many times you can change the look of one item which I love as so many blogs are about having SO MANY different clothes! xx

    1. I was lucky enough to sit out in the sunshine during my lunchtime yesterday Elizabeth and it really did feel like therapy for the body and soul - a dose of vitamin D as well as that welcome heat to relax me. I like the idea of the weakening sun here strengthening with you, that makes it less lamentable.
The black trousers are proving so versatile and I'm still not finished yet!

  6. I'm loving your pants, and I think these posts are very inspiring!.
I like that doubled frill, in the sleeves and in the pants, it creates a fabulous shape. Lovely gingham, lovely fuchsia accents and lovely style!
