Philip Treacy hat

Last winter I was idly browsing through the hat offerings on eBay and came across this Philip Treacy number. How exciting! An original from the hat maker to Royalty and the stars was too good to pass. After some strategic bidding it was mine for the grand sum of £21, yippee! A few days later it arrived and was not a disappointment - quality, provenance, colour - all were as described. But the only problem was the size. It kinda swamps me. I set to, and added a bit of elastic to the inside to pull it in (sacrilege, I know). But it still overwhelms me. From time to time it has an outing, and the bright autumn sunshine along with no wind to cause extra problems made me think this might be the ideal opportunity to try it out again. Maybe you wouldn't have known if I didn't tell you? Terminal honesty is my downfall.

Anyway, I do think the hat adds to today's ensemble regardless of the fit. It's months since I wore this little jacket (previously seen here) and I do love it. It will be great for injecting some colour into my AW wardrobe and works really well with my yellow and brown Boden brogues too. I seem to have had problems matching these dapper shoes with many outfits so this was a success today. The chocolate brown chiffon blouse was a charity shop purchase as were the skinny jeans (my, oh my, how skinny are they!) and as long as I didn't try to breathe I was fine. Bending, stretching, lifting and carrying at work were all postponed until another day when I had more practical trousers on. Suffering for your art I think it's called...

Jacket: charity shop. Hat: eBay. Blouse: charity shop. Trousers: (H&M) charity shop. Shoes: Boden. Socks: H&M. Yellow ring: Martin James. Brown ring: East.

  1. Oh Anna...that hat sounds PERFECT for my big "baw" head!
    Hahaha.
I really struggle to find one large enough and always end up at the gent's department (or sometimes in the sale bucket because the normal people don't want it).
You can buy bands to put inside the hat to make it smaller (have a look on amazon) or just puff your hair up to maximum?!
Of course you know that I am going to swoon over and covet those gorgeous brogues! Yellow and brown? I want ...in fact I might just need those. I may have a trawl on ebay (you never know your luck).
I love the way you have brought 4 patterns together (5 if I include those fab shoes)...with ease and class.
A real skill. Just my cup of tea.....

    2. Hey Samantha, glad you like today's offering, and of course I'll keep you in mind if I ever need to get rid! I do kinda like the hiding under a hat look, though. It's just the same as having a long fringe to hide under, a bit of a security blanket. Lovely to hear from you as ever xxx

  3. What a gorgeous little jacket that is - I love the detail of the pockets and the fact that the buttons are the same material and the hat looks just divine with the whole outfit. Great strategic buying on ebay there, Anna. My, can't you find some great buys on there.

  4. Beautiful hat, beautiful shoes. If I had seen this hat I would have bought it too. And I hardly wear hats. But that is because ai cannot find one to fit and suit me. But this one has a big upgoing brim and a high top. Perfect. The leopard print just adds to the fun. Hope it will keep you warm this winter.

    1. Thanks for all the lovely feedback Greetje. I must admit I only have a few hats and don't wear them often as I'm not sure I suit a hat at all. This is quite lovely though and yes, a bit of fun which is my middle name!
